Solid ending to season

Warning: Spoilers
This episode did a good job of getting to the important part of the episode. It was about fun and the TEAM. Not about winning State. That's the culture of the old Ducks.

Some good jokes with Bombay and the Ducks coach.

Then of course the second intermission jersey swap. Old D5 Ducks vs the new Mighty Ducks.

For those who notice ... yes... there are player jerseys that weren't on the original ducks, such as Julie Gaffney that you will see on the ice. It's not a mistake, the writer knows. Just assume at some point they all had those jerseys sometime outside of the movie.

They even did the flying V to win it all. Hearing "Charlie Conway!" Was cool The only thing missing was a shootout. Needed Evan Morrow to do a triple deke.

Season 1: Better Than It Probably Has Any Right To Be
zkonedog20 August 2021
Growing up in Minnesota in the 1990s, the Mighty Ducks films were an institution in and of themselves. Not only that, but they were also--for the most part--extremely fun kids flicks that ultimately became iconic. As such, it was not surprising to see Disney dust off the property for a reboot of sorts. What was surprising? That "Mighty Ducks: Game Changers" turns out as well as it does.

For a very basic overview, "Game Changers" tells the story of Evan Morrow (Brady Noon), a MN youth hockey player who gets cut by the Ducks, now a soulless institution only concerned with winning titles. Discouraged by the competitive-over-fun model, Evan's mother Alex (Lauren Graham) starts her own team--a rag-tag group of erstwhile kids who know nothing of hockey and just want to have some fun. The first obstacle? Ice time, which brings them to the rink owned by a reclusive former coach--Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez).

It would have been really easy for Disney to do the bare minimum with a series like "Game Changers". The Mighty Ducks property alone would have gotten me to tune in regardless of quality (at least to begin with). But it quickly becomes clear that the show-runners actually have some interesting ideas to tackle here. The Ducks being the "bad guys" is a fascinating angle, while the ultra-competitive youth sports scene taps into a very real anxiety in that realm. Those two themes really carry the plot and characters forward all the way through in this show.

Not only that, but my thirty-something nostalgia was satiated by such aspects as the use of the original Mighty Ducks theme (guaranteed to produce goosebumps every time it's played) and the extensive usage of Estevez. Without going into further details, his Bombay isn't just a cameo here. Plus, one special episode even brings back some of the original Mighty Ducks kids for an emotional turn.

My biggest knock on "Game Changers" (why I can't rate it higher than 7/10)? The extremely cheesy and goofy tone it takes from beginning to end. It's a show made for kids, and that's how it should be. But that being said, all but the very youngest of viewers will likely be rolling their eyes along with some of the more saccharine aspects. The original Ducks films were no Shakespeare, to be sure, but they were much more sophisticated and "cool" than anything present here. "Game Changers" is very much a modern Disney production in that sense, playing things extremely socially conscious and safe. It's just something you'll have to accept if you want to appreciate these episodes at all.

Overall, though, I enjoyed "Game Changers" much more than I thought I would. It can be quite cringe-worthy from a bordering-on-dumb comedic sense, but it has just enough interesting themes and nostalgic tugs to keep things fun and engaging. If you grew up with the original trilogy, I'd recommend giving this at least a look.

State of Play

I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this show, but it went out with a bang. A good episode here that had a nice twist, but we got the happy ending when all was said and done.

Great episode

It makes me laugh to read a comment where it says that it is hardly credible that a team this bad culminates this good, because that person did not see the mighty ducks 1, 2 and 3. The episode was great between my two favorites without a doubt. Emilio Estevez is the best !!!! The miracle man of Minnesota.

the best show in the world

I love the mighty ducks franchise. This show is actually bringing back memories.

It's awesome to see a new generation of ducks and also gordon bombay taking up to help coach the team. It's got more then i expected this show to have that really shows alot more then just winning and also more entertainment. They waited a good amount of time to actually make this happen. Everyone involved with this show is doing a great job. I even like Evan and Sofi they are great kids.

I gotta rate this as a 100% A++++++.

I highly recommend this show to everyone. It's a great show and trust me you would not wanta shut it off. It's so great for families.

GREAT...BUT...
autumnkeely28 April 2022
The whole reason this Season 1 reboot succeeded was because of Emilio! The people watching this are watching for nostalgia....watching for EMILIO (Coach Gordon). No one will watch this without him no matter who takes his place. Disney should know this; only a brick wall would think this could thrive without him. Perfectly casted, well-scripted, and contagiously funny - all for Disney to cast someone else instead of working out a deal with Emilio. Pretty sad knowing this show will be canceled soon because of contract disagreements. Way to go Disney on ruining such a good show - one of few.

(This season was perfect, and only got better with each episode as the characters and the show's humor really shined. Coach Gordon was nothing short of amazing, a sarcastic middle aged man who fell off the horse only to redeem himself through being the kind hearted man he always was. Alex was also amazing and had chemistry with all of the teammates, including Gordon. Really couldn't get better than this amazing cast.... such a shame for Season 2)

State of Play

Great Finale! Going into it, I though they would go through States and have the Don't Bothers Play the Ducks in the Finals and beat them. But what they did instead was completely unexpected and unique. I won't get into it to avoid spoilers, but what they did, and the way they wrote it was perfect. I can't wait for season 2, because based on the end, there definitely should be one.

Subpar, unfortunately.

EXTREMELY promising start for the show. But this episode was very rushed. It wasn't that bad, but the season didn't end strong.

Any streaming show that doesn't drop all at once faces more criticism, due to more time to criticize it. Plus more time in between episodes to ruin the immersion.

Hopefully next season improves in every aspect. Plus adds more original Ducks references? Maybe. I think there might have been the right amount this season, but missing the right people.

Who is writing this? Or who isn't getting paid enough to write for this show?
ThunderKing628 May 2021
This show is cringe and awful. I'm surprised it's placed under comedy genre. Nothing about this show is funny. Nothing about this show is worth remembering. For a final episode, it was not impressive. It's 2021 from a multi-trillion dollar company and this was the best they could do? Can I ask why?

Many characters and actors are wasted. After 20+ years, this show ruins the Mighty Ducks legacy. Mighty Ducks went from mighty to cringy. A multi-trillion dollar company allowed this to occur. Can I ask why?

I can't see today's children liking this show, or like children loved the 90s Ducks movies.

If Disney wants people to stay on their platform, why would they produce something like this? This made me want to cancel my membership but MCU/Loki is why I am here.

The only good is the final game moment, even that had some cringe on it.

Lastly, The last ep is just a rushed mess. I could produce better on a lousy covid check using Goanimate.

8.8 is undeserving from a multi-trillion dollar company.

I will not be watching S2. The cringe in this one was too powerful.

2023 update: It's funny how my title foreshadowed the writer strike in 2023. That is amazing. I don't even work for Hollywood whatsoever... So how the hash would I know they were not getting paid enough. Which is why this show and episode were awful.

Unrealistic but Enjoyable
jakeedwards-0400128 May 2021
There is simply no chance that a team that bad in the beginning of the series would improve enough to compete in the MINNESOTA state finals within one season, and while this episode was rushed it was still an enjoyable little season as a whole.
