This marks the debut of Whopper, the little puppy with a big imagination; Holly, the pure-hearted 11-year-old girl with the gift of puppy power; Katrina Stoneheart, the show's main villain who despises puppies and everything cute; and Brattina, a bratty girl who's just as bad as her mother, Katrina.
Cooler, Bright Eyes, Nose Marie (originally known as "The Nose" in the TV Special), and Howler return from the 1985 TV Special. Dan Gilvezan is the only actor who kept his role as Cooler while Nose Marie (originally voiced by Joanne Worley) is voiced by Ruth Buzzi, Bright Eyes (originally voiced by Adrienne Alexander who later voiced Brattina) is voiced by Nancy Cartwright and Howler (originally voiced by Frank Welker) is voiced by Robert Morse.
Bright Eyes was redesigned as a younger puppy with a blue bow. However, she keeps her green shirt and green skirt from the TV Special. Also, she now has orange hair instead of brown hair.
Cooler now sports his Eddie Murphy-styled laugh which usually backs up his jokes.
Nose Marie now wears a purple dress and sports a Southern Belle-accent.
