Jake and Amy's last visit to Dr. Weston offers another view at this troubled couple. Their split is imminent, and so they let Paul know they are going ahead with the plans for a divorce. In spite of the two months of therapy, this couple see no other alternative than abandon a marriage that did not work out.

The main consideration now in Jake's mind is the fate of their son Lenny. Amy does not opposed to sharing custody of the young boy, but the fact that Lenny will now have to deal with a new reality weighs heavily on both Amy and Jake. Both realize the step they are taking will be definite and must make adjustments in their lives.

While Jake remains stone faced when all is said and done, Amy breaks down, crying inconsolably. The love she felt for Jake is gone, something that she contributed to destroy by the affair she had with her boss. Now, she finds herself without a job and having to start all over. Jake, on the other hand must go into a less spacious quarters in a part of town that is not at all what Amy would like for her son.

Melanie Mayron directed the screenplay written by Merritt Johnson, who is part of the creating team and has contributed to the success of the series. The excellent Embeth Davidtz shows why she is one of our best actresses working today. Her Amy shows a suffering that burns her soul. Josh Charles is equally effective as Jake. Gabriel Byrne acted as the moderator between two people that have hurt one another and find it is too late to mend their broken relationship.
