Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have acquired North American rights to the romantic drama The Good House from Amblin Partners, in association with Participant. The film based on Ann Leary’s New York Times bestseller is heading to the Tribeca Film Festival for its U.S. premiere in June 18, and will hit theaters via Roadside on September 30.
The Good House follows Hildy Good (three-time Oscar nom Sigourney Weaver), a wry New England realtor and descendant of the Salem witches, who loves her wine and her secrets. Her compartmentalized life begins to unravel as she rekindles a romance with her old high-school flame, Frank Getchell (Oscar winner Kevin Kline), and becomes dangerously entwined in one person’s reckless behavior. Igniting long-buried emotions and family secrets, Hildy is propelled toward a reckoning with the one person she’s been avoiding for decades: herself.

The good doctor, as in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, added 31.6 to its tally over the weekend to raise its three-week total to 342.1 million. The second-place film, Downton Abbey: A New Era debuted with a 16 million opening weekend. That pushed The Bad Guys to third place as it garnered 6.1 million in its fifth week in release. This gives the film a total of 74.4 million. Meanwhile, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 also dropped a spot, finishing in fourth place with 3.9 over the weekend. The sequel now sports a seven-week tally of 181 million. The second new film in this weekend’s top ten, Men, debuted in the fifth spot with 3.3 million.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness maintained its spot atop the box-office weekend, finishing 54.1 million ahead of the film in second place.
In its second weekend of release, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness added 61 million to lift the film’s staggering two-week total to 291.9 million. Again, this bested the second-place finisher by a considerable margin as The Bad Guys only brought in 6.9 million, despite maintaining its hold on second-place. The animated film now has a four-week total of 66.3 million. Meanwhile, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 held steady in second place with 4.6 million. The film now lays claim to a six-week total of 175.7 million. Debuting in the fourth spot of the weekend top ten, was the remake of the Stephen King tale Firestarter which managed to pull in a rather lukewarm 3.8 million over its opening weekend. It was no surprise to anyone that Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” won its second weekend at the box office, especially after its astounding 187.4 million opening weekend – the second best opening since 2019. Even so, the Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer took a pretty heavy hit in its second weekend.
After mixed reviews and a lower-than-usual CinemaScore, “Multiverse of Madness” took a 68 drop for an estimated 61 million. It has grossed 291.4 million domestically and should cross 300 million this coming week, but it might end up being capped off around 400 million with other strong releases opening in late May and early June. Ideally, it would at least make 408 million, which was what both “Iron Man 3” and “Captain America: Civil War” made after opening roughly 10 million lower than “Doctor Strange 2,” but both of those movies had grossed more money by the end of their second weekends.

After nearly two weeks of play, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (Disney) sits at 688 million worldwide. It is headed to around 1 billion ultimately in theaters, a fine achievement, more so for a Marvel entry that clearly has not achieved the level of satisfaction that top entries like “Spider-Man: No Way Home” did.
The biggest opening of the year has hit its mark, but won’t exceed it. A 67 percent second weekend domestic drop, at the high end for comic book blockbusters, assures that. With 292 million in, look for it to easily surpass “The Batman,” currently at 369 million in U.S./Canada returns.
…but only because it opened with 52 million more than the D.C. Comics’ hit. Matt Reeves’ blockbuster made 66.5 million its second weekend, off 50 percent. Among recent start-of-summer Marvel releases, the drop has been within a lower, steady range of 55 to 59 percent. Last December, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” also fell 67 percent,...

Roadside Attractions’ faith-based family comedy Family Camp opened to 1.42 million and is no. 9 of the top 10 ten this weekend on 854 screens. One of the strongest specialty openings this year, the film saw a release campaign led by Wta Media lean heavily into the faith-based audience with strong grassroots marketing to churches and ministry organizations, an active digital and social presence and partnerships with the K-love and Air1 faith-based radio networks.
Star Tommy Woodard and Eddie James (The Skit Guys) have promoted the film at their live events for the past six months.
Top performing markets were centered in the Midwest and South and include LA/Orange County, Dallas-Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Phoenix, Oklahoma City, Nashville, and Sacramento for the story of two polar-opposite families that find themselves reluctantly sharing a cabin for a week away at church camp. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is again the No. 1 movie at the domestic box office.
In its second weekend of release, the latest installment in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe has collected 61 million from 4,534 North American theaters. Ticket sales were down 67 from its opening weekend, marking a steeper drop off compared to recent Marvel movies like “Eternals” (which declined 61 in its second weekend) and “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (which declined 52 in its second weekend). However, that sizable decline is not surprising since “Doctor Strange 2” is coming off the 11th biggest opening weekend in history with 187 million. After 10 days on the big screen, the standalone superhero adventure has grossed a strong 291 million in North America.
At the international box office, the “Strange” sequel added 83.5 million from 49 markets. In total, the film has grossed 688.1 million globally.

It’s one of busiest opening weeks in some time for indie releases with Neon (Pleasure), Bleecker Street (Montana Story), IFC Midnight (The Innocents) and Roadside Attractions (Family Camp) in theaters — even as the imminent closure of the Landmark Pico underscores just how arthouses are struggling to win back core demos.

This upcoming weekend, Marvel Studios’ latest superhero epic, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” will continue to run rampant at the box office, and it’s likely to be the #1 movie for quite some time, or at least until “Top Gun: Maverick” opens over Memorial Day weekend.
On Friday, Universal Pictures is releasing Blumhouse Pictures’ take on Stephen King’s best-selling thriller “Firestarter,” but it’s not just opening in roughly 3,300 theaters – it will also get a day-and-date release on its Peacock streaming service. The new movie stars Ryan Kiera Armstrong from “American Horror Story” as young Charlie McGee, the titular girl with pyrokinetic powers, while Zac Efron plays her father. It’s directed by Keith Thomas, who helmed the previous Blumhouse movie, “The Vigil.”
The decision for Universal to do day-and-date streaming is an odd one, just because there isn’t much direct competition other than “Doctor Strange.

Roadside Attractions, K-love Films, and Provident Films have announced that their comedy Family Camp, starring Tommy Woodard and Eddie James of comedy duo The Skit Guys, will debut in cinemas nationwide on May 13.
It’s set to open against Universal’s Firestarter starring Zac Efron, IFC Films’ horror-thriller The Innocents and Greenwich Entertainment’s documentary, Mau.
The film watches as two seemingly polar-opposite families are assigned to share the same cabin for a hilariously eventful week at church camp. It also stars Gigi Orsillo, Cece Kelly, Robert Amaya and Heather Land. Brian Cates directed from the script he wrote with Rene Gutteridge. Darren Moorman, Trey Reynolds and Justin Tolley produced alongside The Skit Guys’ Chief Operations Officer, Jay Howver.
“For over 20 years, we’ve dreamed about making a comedy feature film,” said James. “Our goal is to always include humor, heart, and Him (God), and we were able to accomplish that in Family Camp.
