Why... just why?

Another viewer wrote "you can't miss with Nick Offerman"; alas, this show is proof positive that you can.

Despite the rather feeble attempt to repurpose Offerman's Parks and Rec character for this animated series, his charm is simply no match for the painfully unfunny writing, inane characters, and transparent attempt to cram as much diversity into one family as possible.

While Fox clearly wants to hold onto its animation domination title, this offering is not going to help them do it. Like seemingly 90% of what is coming out of the entertainment industry these days, this series comes across as contrived and preachy. Until creators focus on storytelling again, rather than ticking off all the Leftist requirements for shows and movies, people will continue to tune out of these hard to watch disasters. Seriously, the Hindenburg tragedy has gotten more laughs out of people than this show generates.

There is simply nothing to like about The Great North:
  • You don't care about the characters because they are not likable.
  • You can't enjoy the plot because its hackneyed and saccharin.
  • You can't get excited about the animation because it is so unoriginal that it is indistinguishable from existing shows.

A truly shameful offering with no redeemable qualities.

I am utterly amused by this show AND the above review. What in the Hell is a D-bomb?

Horrible Show!

I watch this show last night and I already didn't like because that cast sucks, Beef keeps getting upset about changes and his ex wife, & and Even Worse Too Much D-Bombs. I can't stand with more than one D-bomb in one minute its just like Family Guy.

The color is absolutely brilliant as is the series writing. This series will be around for decades both with new episodes and eventually in syndication.

I became a fan of this animated series after watching the pilot episode. It is funny, it's current, and the dad who is the patriarch of the Tobin family is named Beef Tobin voiced by comedian Nick Offerman is simply engaging and hilarious. Beef Tobin is raising his family of three (s) sons and one (1) daughter in Alaska by himself while he remains in denial that his wife has left him and their children.

The series color cinematography is absolutely brilliant as is the series writing. I knocked my rating down by one point as the sixteen (16) year old daughter Judy voiced by Jenny Slate may be excited about celebrating her sixteenth (16th) birthday but she talks way too fast and should slow it (her voice) down.

This series will be around for decades both with new episodes and eventually in syndication.

Not so great North

Warning: Spoilers
Suffered through the first episode...aside from the father, all the other characters are thoroughly unlikeable. Is this comedy once everything that could possibly be construed as offensive is sucked out? Unfortunately, it seems so... I really tried with this episode, but damn, it was just so stale and uninspired with absolutely no edge whatsoever. At one point in the episode they reference "The Gilmore Girls" which was quite appropriate given that both programs seem to share the same insufferable, soulless style of "humour". I shudder to think of the mindless, inoffensive, left wing McNugget factory that vomited out this dismally bland garbage. The Great North? Nothing great about it at all.

I'd say watch the pilot again

I absolutely love this show, but when it first came on I did like it a lot and found it hilarious, but there were so much going on with all the names and keeping track of who is who.

It was only after I saw a few episodes and got comfortable with the characters that I could really appreciate it-like Bob's Burgers. It's funny on its own, but once you understand the family dynamics it is really special. So glad it got picked up for 2 more seasons already.
