New Posters for 'Shutter Island,' 'Kick-Ass,' 'Eat, Pray, Love' and 'Robin Hood'

24 December 2009 1:21 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I really don't understand studio thinking when they decide to debut trailers, pictures and posters online right before the holidays. People are taking time off of work and spending time with their families, not browsing the Internet... at least not the way they typically would. Nevertheless, that appears to be exactly what's going on as not only has the recent rash of new trailers continued, but four new posters have just arrived.

Featured below are new posters for Robin Hood, Shutter Island, Eat, Pray, Love and Kick-Ass. You can click on all of them for larger looks in their respective galleries.

Shutter Island, you had me at Scorsese. We have had so many different things come out in promotion for Shutter Island. Of course, this movie is getting a lot of buzz for not only being a new Scorsese film, but also being another Scorsese film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. They previously did Gangs Of New York, The Aviator, and The Departed together.

The Best Films of 2009

22 December 2009 11:57 AM, PST | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

Matt Singer: We entered 2009 with a new president who promised to bring our country hope. But looking back at the year in film, I don't see a lot of hope; I see a lot of grief and despair. Oh sure, the box office charts were dominated by your now-typical assortment of franchises, spin-offs, reboots and sequels -- a major cause of grief and despair for some -- but you also had enough apocalypse movies to fill a book on Biblical prophecy. Even some of the obligatory superheroes got dark: the world (spoiler alert!) doesn't end in "Watchmen," but it comes awfully close.

There was an air of doom in certain quarters of the film industry this year too, as the effects of the bad economy rippled through everything from festival attendance to the shriveling ranks of working film critics. Examining my own list of the year's best, I find that »

Leonardo Brings a Buddy to Holiday Shop

22 December 2009 10:30 AM, PST | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Leonardo DiCaprio and a friend stopped by the Beverly Center on Sunday to do some last minute holiday shopping. He tried to go incognito with his usual low cap routine, though Leo had to trade his hat for a helmet when he hopped on his motorcycle to go home. After a Summer full of travels and a recent getaway to Mexico, Leo has been reconnecting with old friends like Lindsay Lohan during the last few weeks at home in California. He'll be back to collecting the frequent flier miles in early 2010, though, when he starts promoting Shutter Island before its release in February. Final Shutter Island Poster Looks like the Old One

21 December 2009 9:50 PM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Martin Scorsese’s period crime/mystery/suspense film gets a final poster via Chud. I guess the studio couldn’t be bothered to spend money on, you know, an actual new poster. Eh. Set in 1954, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, Jackie Earle Haley, Patricia Clarkson, Elias Koteas, and Ted Levine. »

One Final Faceless Poster Hits for Breck Eisner's The Crazies

21 December 2009 12:05 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Fear thy neighbor. I'm not sure why I'm so fascinated by the posters for this damn horror movie, but I just can't stop featuring them. Thankfully the is the last official poster for The Crazies that Overture is putting out and it has no faces or actors on it at all, only a pitchfork being dragged across the ground. You can probably tell that's also blood on the floor, but they had to make it look black on the poster so they wouldn't get in trouble. Creepy. There are a few other posters that just came out today as well, like this final Shutter Island one or this Lake Mungo one, but this Crazies poster is the best of the new batch. Check it out below! The story revolves around the inhabitants of a small Iowa town who are suddenly beset by death and insanity after a plane crash lets »

Final Shutter Island One-Sheet

21 December 2009 11:27 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Wow. Just wow. It looks like the ingenious marketeers over at Paramount have found nothing better to do with their extra time with Shutter Island than to sit around and push delete a few times in the poster's Photoshop file. Chud premiered this new poster today, which lacks every element that made This poster, released nigh on five months ago now, just centimeters above terrible. This is quite possibly the shittiest poster that's come out this year. And hot on the heels of the really intriguing and creepy Crazies poster from yesterday, it's a wonder how anything as flat out lazy as this Shutter Island high-school digital art project even found it's way past one producer let alone all of them. Step back from your screen before scrolling down just in case your gag reflex is triggered. »

Review: Shutter Island

21 December 2009 9:02 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

We've come to expect Martin Scorsese to swing for the fences every single time he's at bat, so when a movie comes along like Shutter Island, a pulpy, by-the-numbers thriller, it's easy to feel a slight twinge of disappointment. Here, we're dealing with a lesser work by a modern master, which is to say that Shutter Island is still a crackerjack mystery, executed with great artistic care, but it's also Scorsese working about as close as he ever has to popcorn-munching cineplex fare. It's a hard-boiled and unpretentious outing, but the individual parts of Shutter Island are greater than the whole -- particularly the cinematography by Robert Richardson and outstanding work from a dream team ensemble cast.

Leading that dream team is Leonardo DiCaprio as U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels, called in to a state-run mental institution on a storm-battered, rocky island on the East Coast, along with his new »

Michelle Slips On a Bikini and Takes Matilda to Hawaii

21 December 2009 9:00 AM, PST | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Michelle Williams and Matilda escaped the big snowstorm in NYC this weekend and instead were spotted in Hawaii enjoying a much more tropical climate. The girls' perfectly timed getaway meant bathing suits and sunshine instead of snow boots and warm coats. Michelle tried out stand up paddle surfing in her cute bikini. This upcoming award season will be a quiet one for Michelle since Shutter Island was pushed to next year, but she is supposedly mulling a possible turn playing Marilyn Monroe, which could mean another busy red carpet schedule. For now, however, it's all about relaxation with her number one girl, Matilda. View 2 Photos › »

Leonardo DiCaprio To Star In Mel Gibson’s Viking Movie

18 December 2009 2:20 PM, PST | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Leonardo DiCaprio will star in Mel Gibson’s untitled period drama about Viking culture. This will be DiCaprio’s first picture with Gibson.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Gibson will direct from the script by William Monahan.

The principals confirmed the project but would not divulge many details. DiCaprio, who has long been fascinated by Viking culture, will play one in a storyline that will be as unsparing as Gibson’s other period directing efforts, “Braveheart,” “The Passion of the Christ” and “Apocalypto.” [Variety]

“This will be an awe-inspiring story, created with some of the industry’s finest cinematic talent, and I am just over the moon to be making this film with Mel, Leo and Bill,” producer Graham King said in a statement.

Production is expected to begin in fall 2010.

DiCaprio just completed the Christopher Nolan-directed “Inception” and will next be seen in the Martin Scorsese-directed “Shutter Island.”

Paramount Wants More ‘Doc Holliday’

18 December 2009 7:13 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

I’m usually not much for one actor having ownership over a role that’s based on real life figures or one that has had a long lifespan in multiple mediums. As great as Heath Ledger’s Joker is, Jack Nicholson’s interpretation is just as valid, as is Cesar Romero’s.

But here’s the thing: nobody will ever play gunslinger Doc Holliday better than Val Kilmer did in Tombstone. It’s a fact of life, inescapable.

But Paramount doesn’t think so, having just purchased a spec script entitled The Further Adventures of Doc Holliday by Chad St. John. Paramount is apparently looking for another Transformers-esque tentpole film to be spearheaded by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

It’s likely that Adventures won’t be grounded in reality, as they’re aiming for something more like Pirates of the Caribbean than Tombstone. Variety calls it a “history-based action adventure tale. »
