Samuel Goldwyn Films know a thing or two about making a buck with faith-based dramas - the Kirk Cameron starring tale Fireproof made an astounding thirty-three million at the box office. No need in pointing out that there is a good segment of the population in red states portion of the U.S. who don't mind mixing the movie-going experience with some of the lessons learned on Sunday mornings, but I think a couple of prayers might be needed for this "message" film - Samuel Goldwyn Films know a thing or two about making a buck with faith-based dramas - the Kirk Cameron starring tale Fireproof made an astounding thirty-three million at the box office. Sherwood Pictures has announced that they will begin production on Courageous.
The film will revolve around “four fathers and friends, all in law enforcement, who go through a terrible tragedy and begin looking at their role as fathers. They’re soon challenging one another to fulfill God’s intention for fathers.”
Senior Pastor Michael Catt, Executive Pastor Jim McBride, and ministers Stephen and Alex Kendrick will produce.
Sherwood Pictures is the Christian faith-based studio behind the mammoth hits Fireproof and Facing the Giants.
Production is set to begin in March with no debut date. Sherwood is expected to use existing fans, along with churches and non-profit organizations to provide buzz for the movie; a plan that has worked brilliantly for their previous projects.

Sherwood Church, home of the hit independent movies Flywheel (DVD only), Facing the Giants, and Fireproof, at its Sunday evening service tonight, announced the theme and title for Sherwood Pictures' fourth movie. Senior Pastor Michael Catt, Executive Pastor Jim McBride, and ministers Stephen and Alex Kendrick--collectively the leadership team of Sherwood Pictures--made the announcement.
"The movie is about fatherhood and the title is one word: Courageous," Alex Kendrick said, briefly outlining the plot. "Four fathers who are all in law enforcement--who protect and serve together--go through a terrible tragedy," he said. "They begin looking at their role as fathers... and they begin challenging one another to fulfill God's intention for fathers."
That single-word title, Pastor Catt said, echoes God's call for men to "rise with courage" in their homes and as leaders. This at a time when 4 of 10 marriages end in divorce and more than a third of all

Sherwood Pictures, the company behind 2008’s top independent film, are ready for a follow-up to the unexpected hit Fireproof.
According to officials from Sherwood, the company will be announcing November 15th what the title and theme of their fourth film will be. Members of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga, where the first three movies from Sherwood Pictures were filmed, will be the first to hear the news about the next film.
The fourth Sherwood movie will likely also be made at Sherwood Baptist Church, and Alex Kendrick, Fireproof’s director, has said the film will have a budget of $2.5 million.
Also according to Kendrick, writing for the movie is set to start soon, with production taking place next year, and release planned for 2011.
Sherwood officials say the company’s heads have been involved in “prayer, creative brainstorming and wise counsel” in order to come up with a God-centered film to follow the pro-marriage Fireproof.

He's used to getting love letters and high-fives as a former teen heartthrob, but onetime Growing Pains actor Kirk Cameron isn't letting the mockery and criticism dissuade him from promoting his controversial project to dispute evolutionary theory.
"Atheism has been on the rise for years now, and the Bible of the atheists is The Origin of Species," Cameron tells People. "We have a situation in our country where young people are entering college with a belief in God and exiting with that faith being stripped and shredded. What we want to do is have student make an informed, educated decision before they chuck their faith.

"Man, this is gonna tick off the devil."
There are movie trailers, there are epic movie trailers ... and then there's this new trailer for a movie called C Me Dance, which is brought to us by the folks behind Praise Band: The Movie. Yes, like Kirk Cameron's box office champ Fireproof, C Me Dance is another one of those Christian-themed blockbusters -- and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that -- except, well, you go ahead and try to explain what the hell (no pun intended) is going on in this flick. There's a pretty girl and she just wants to dance, but then the Devil shows up and fights this girl's overweight father out in front of the house. What in God's name is ... wait, let me stop there.
C Me Dance will apparently arrive in theaters this Friday in 14 states, and if it's not playing in your area

Satan Will C Me Dance This Weekend!

I swear to you the following story is not an April Fool's joke. There really is a PG-rated Christian-themed horror flick based around the world of ballet dancing entitled C Me Dance opening in very limited release this Friday. Seriously. I swear on a stack of bibles this is no joke.
I didn't even know C Me Dance existed until I was looking up movie times for films opening at a local theater on Friday and saw the title listed. I assumed it was just going to be another teen dance flick until I Googled it and discovered it was the latest piece of Christsploitation hoping to follow on the heels of the surprise success of Kirk Cameron's Fireproof.
Written and directed by "Pastor" Greg Robbins, C Me Dance is an "inspiring story of spiritual warfare" about 17-year old Sheri, raised by her hard-working, God-fearing father after mom was killed in a car accident.

Though the entertainment media was shy about reporting it, the Christian-themed marital drama Fireproof (Samuel Goldwyn) was an enormous hit, parlaying its modest $500,000 budget into a $33 million in church-group cash. But has there ever been a blander troubled marriage than the one between the protagonist (Kirk Cameron) and his wife? Cameron turns to a 40-day, faith-driven handbook to patch up the relationship, but if he went easy on the Internet porn and washed a dish every once in a while, he'd have no problems…

This week is a breath of fresh air compared to recent weeks as we have more than just one title to talk about with Jason Bourne coming to Blu-ray and the film I deemed to be the best of 2008 coming home on DVD and Blu-ray. We also have the very good Roman Polanski doc and the old school Pink Panther Collection arrives with the original Pink Panther available on DVD and Blu-ray.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Yup, Woody Allen's romance was my favorite film of 2008 and Genius Products didn't even send me a screener. Boooooo! But I have already ordered the Blu-ray release from Amazon and expect it any day and I suggest you do the same. This is a great little film with two of the better performances of the year from Penelope Cruz and most notably Rebecca Hall.
