I'm not going to criticize the show here. I have only one question. Why does Liz has to believe everyone? Just asking.

The never-ending plot line
kingsx_6414 December 2019
The job of the writters is to keep us in suspense.
The problem arises when they carry that to far,
and refuse to end plot lines. Beating us over the head
with the same unanswered questions over and over again.
I still find the show fun, and I guess their brainless format
say's a lot about me, but I will continue to watch, while getting frustrated at an inability to close anything out, and to STAY closed.
I don't know why I'm still watching

Actually, I do. Stand up Mr Spader, it's your fault.
Lotte Verbeek as the young Katarina was great. The older one, not so much.
As for Keen, I think we viewers have all got bruises on our foreheads from "headdesk". The narcissism, the whining about "the truth", the ability to forget all that Red has done for her every second day. She's an entitled idiot.
I miss the days when it was mostly about the villain of the week, instead of bloody Keen and her bloody mother!

After all these years of episodes.. what kinda profiler that can not profile her own neighbours? Why the hell a profiler believes everyone said? And oohh.. after so many fake names, identities, faces, dna's, etc.. how could she easily believe a woman claiming as her mother and everything she said? At this point this must be enough.. enough.. pleasee... stop it!
By the way, now we all can conclude that reddington turns out to be the REAL Reddington.. faking or cheating his own death at first long time ago.. plot twist.. huehuehe

Liz has been getting on my nerves all season, lol... Her search for the "truth" is becoming overplayed. She mentioned her husband and herself getting that apartment because of the escape route. If memory serves me right, Tom was already gone when she moved to this new apartment with Agnes. How did Liz ever make it to the FBI? any mention of father, mother or "The Truth", she trusts the person 100%.
Can Liz just go back to being a fugitive? :)

Awesome episode, we need more!

Amazing episode. Finally we get some answers, and we can enjoy and be excited for the next episodes. This is a kind of show, that is best if it is long. It soes not get boring, or repetitive. It is not monotone. If it were stopped with this season, it would be left open. We need anoith reason to figure out what will happen. After this episode we can porbably expect a lot more good episodes as well. And we need more!
Worst episode for a mid season finale!

Unbelievable to me that the FBI profiler Liz picked up nothing on the radar about her mother. That the FBI agent leaves her daughter with a stranger from time to time - casually ... that she betrays Red yet again ... Always trusted and trusts others before Red - after everything that's happened. Also a huge plot hole at the end - when did Katarina get time to dress in her bullet proof vest - or whatever it was she was wearing to fake her death? She never knew Liz was going to help her escape - how did her 'assassins' know where to find her? Liz's character is becoming very suspect - bad mother, bad profiler, disloyal - driven by the opposite obsession that her parents had to protect her over everything else - she's not that protective over her own?
Just Awesome

WORST FBI AGENT EVER!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Liz is an idiot.... A profiler? A FBI Agent????? She's too worried about being a "woke agent" she needs to just try to be a decent person and not an idiot.
So whether or not what Katrina said is true or not, how, after all red has done for her, just believes whatever she said...... Takes it as gospel..... Just the worst fbi agent, I'd take Johnny English, over keen. Just Liz gushing all over Katrina, just ridiculous. And she had the audacity to take the high moral ground when in the same episode has usually done something even more despicable.....
Meh

The show should be focusing on red and Liz but I feel like they have cut down James Spaders screen time and given Katarina more. Liz basically turns on red and everything about the show just feels wrong now. They need to end it if they don't know who there main charector is. This is the winter finale and James spader isn't in it enough. This is my least favorite of the mid season finales by far. And nothing new was revealed in this episode.
The rating is low because of Liz

This is probably the dumbest person on TV . How does she automatically believe everything this woman tells her. After all the times Red has saved her life. Also the woman's henchman killed 2 FBI AGENTS. I am done with this show unless the writers give her back some common sense.
Foolish

I think this is the lowest rating I've ever given an episode of The Blacklist. It would have been even lower had not there been a lot of James Spader in it. How stupid is Liz. It's incredible that she ever managed to get into the FBI. They need to up their vetting process. I'm also finding the new Agent (Park) irritating.
I expected better.

I wasn't looking for every last mystery to be solved with this episode. I was just looking for a few more hints, developments, and a wild mid-season finale. That's usually what we get! This year, I'm disappointed and I say all of this as a long time fan who loves and defends this show regularly. The cast did great, and everything looked nice or gory when appropriate. I may have liked the episode better had Katarina actually died. That would have been shocking, that may have had lasting effects. Liz may have had to take some initiative and do some solo work to get these bloody answers she's dying to know. But like daughter, like mother, Katarina faked her death to trick Reddington. Let's hope this ruse lasts only an episode or two and they don't dumb down Red to make Katarina look good.
We get no answers, no new information, there's not even a wild cliffhanger to drive us crazy until the show returns in March. In my opinion, The Blacklist has very few blah episodes. There's almost always something memorable or fun to talk about. This one is a clunky let-down. As another reviewer said, it's like they've cut down on James Spader's screen time and forced more Katarina mystery down our throats, while telling us VERY little. All of this Katarina stuff this season could have been fit in half as many episodes without sacrificing any story.
I'm not claiming to speak for an entire fan base, but James Spader is the main reason many of us watch. Alas, the producers feel Liz is the more central character, which would be fine if she was better written. Once again, Liz turns on Reddington. She's been cold and distant from him all season, strange considering how devastated she was when he was on death row. It's clear, Liz has no allegiance to anyone and no moral code whatsoever. She aligns herself with whatever the plot demands. One minute she's telling Cooper that the murder of several FBI agents is inexcusable (something she KNOWS Katarina did or was at least responsible for), five minutes later she's team Katarina 100%. We're seven years in, and they still can't write her in a consistent, logical manner and i think we're supposed to root for her over Red. This is ridiculous.
Is this the worst episode? No, but it is a lame one to leave us with for a couple months. Is it a worthy follow-up to the prior one? Not really. Do I honestly believe the writers know what they're doing? Nope. I think they change their minds as often as Liz turns against Red. Will I quit watching? No way, unlike Liz I am loyal to Red! Here's hoping the second part of the season is worth this clunky build up.

At episode 4, but I like Red. I do. And so, decided to binge ep4-9 on 26th Dec and ep10 on the 27th.
This episode made me want to tear my hair out but, alas I have none. 2 agents are murdered and Liz doesn't bat an eye. A close friend of Red's is tortured, she doesn't bat an eye. Betrays her team, doesn't matter to her. Helps killers and criminals escape. Kat, lies, hurts, keeps her under watch and exposes her daughter to a dead body and lies about it, she lets it slide all the while gaslighting her.
Liz is the real villain in this series. There is no longer any doubt about it my mind any longer. Sure she is turned left and right and has to be on the move constantly trying to reevaluate her principles, but as we saw in earlier this season even Red wouldn't let Park kill and did it himself to save her from getting blood on her hands.
Red let a kid go who was important to Katarina, because of Denbe. I think Liz in this episode has finally turned to the dark side and that is going to be the end of this show.
I no longer care about this series. Nor, do I think other viewers would either. Is it the fault of the writers? Show runners? Liz's is acting, especially when handcuffed to the post? No, Liz isn't just stupid, her character is so concerned for her own self interest that the death of colleagues means nothing for this selfish person. Not a hero, nor an antihero, but a true villain. Because a villain will do anything, say anything for their own self interest and nothing matters, not even death from stopping getting their way. Thats Liz.

Ok, the episode itself was at least entertaining, but the overall arc makes no sense. Red has always been obsessive in his efforts to protect Keen., but suddenly he did not check on their neighbors (one of them spends a lot of time with Agnes). I imagined Red was keeping watch of all Agnes nannies. And of course, Liz is a stupid that believes her neighbor because she sucks at profiling. Oh, and on top of that, she steals a file from her team, she basically betrays them. But she does not care. And if she really, really wanted to speak with her mom who (at the moment) she did not know or trust, why the hell she did not call Red?
Oh, and how the hell did Katarina pulled her stunt in the short time it took her to escape from the FBI and lead Raymond out. That said, I am glad she did. It would have been awful if Katharina died in such stupid way (Denbe and Red could have killed the shooters, by the way).
At least I am happy Ilya is alive, I thought Red was going to kill him as he killed Sam in the first season.
SO PREDICTABLE

IM DONE WITH THIS SHOW!!!
Binged six seasons of it on Netflix and season 6 was actually my favorite. HOLY CRAP they screwed this show up. Season 7 is THE WORST! The writers are the true villains of this show.
Too many other good things to watch nowadays anyway.
Holy hell did this show become predictable. Katarina faking her death was obvious from the get-go. The most boring plot thread I've ever witnessed. Also, there's no way KR would've expected or even known Red would follow her to her so called "death". So stupid. Insulting to viewers.

How could KR plan that elaborate escape with Liz going along with it with the tunnel, the car in the right place, and knowing Red was there and would follow her to observe the assassins stage the shooting? It was way too elaborate an escape to be put together in the time they had before the FBI showed up.
The Blacklist 710 Review
nickzapapp17 December 2019
With an exciting build up from the past three episodes, the Katarina Rostova (no.3) Fall Finale, was expected to shoot hoops. Despite the alternative ways in which the plot could turn; this finale made the wrong choice, which completly turned from the one that was being walked towards and was demonstrated in the clifhanger last episode. This episode still had some good scenes; and Liz develops more knowledge on the townsend directive, but this being an average episode; makes it weak for a fall finale.
It seems like the writers tried to throw all the eggs in one basket here and hope for the best; the coinsidence in this episode is god awful, events being placed that are so pointless so something can be figured out when they could have been figured out way better, eg: Reddington discovers Katarina is living next to Liz, why not have him bump into her... and a battle begins. The events were tackled to quickly and I would have preferred part B of the season to have less episodes and episode 11 be the fall finale. That extra episode will allow for more plot progression. The return of bodgan also gave nothing intresting to the plot... nothing about him and Liz. Another thing to mention is the lack of action; i understand the blacklist isnt like Blindspot fight scenes 247, But it would have even been nice to see a Liz katarina fight scene, this could have easily been incoperated at the start in which she snatches the gun, then berdy comes in a knocks liz out. these little things can give more excitement. if the turn continued that liz still doesnt trust Katarina it would have been far more intresting or even if... she pretended to be on her side and in the last 10 minutes there is a good showdown... also to add those guy that faked katarinas death, brought nothing to the plot, why did she fake her death...? i understand berdy mentioned it around the 15 minute mark but why the sudden plan... the ending was also one of a dam series finale. Someone walking away as if the show ended, I cant believe im saying this but i wanted a clifhanger to keep me annoyed until March...
This is how I would fixe the season:
707 - Learn who Ilya is and Katarina finds him (good) 708 - learn more from ilya (good) 709 - townsend directive, dom and ilya try to kill katarina. Liz comfronts Katrarina (good) -> There should have been an incoperation where Red finds out Katarina
710 liz fight katarina berdy helps Katarina restrain liz. liz is held hostage and attempts to gain answers and breakfree as katarina insists they are family...

Stupid plot
ak202025 June 2020
I can't add a lot to what the others have written: stupid, far fetched plot, silly unbelievable ending, and atrocious acting by so many (James Spader excepted).
I find it hard to understand how other viewers rated it so highly, to get it to an "8" rating.

dierregi4 March 2021
This episode is as bad as they say and even worse. And yet, despite being criticised and ridiculed by the audience, it has a 8.5 rating. How did that happen?
Liz reached new depths of stupidity, in five seconds she switched side, because she wants to know "the truth". I could kill her if I hear her saying that ONCE AGAIN. Her paranoid "mom" is still everybody's centre of attention, hunted by the whole world and their dogs. I am not sure if Katarina is supposed to be a tragic figure, because she manages only to be hugely irritating.
To make it clear: I guess most of the audience follows because Red is a charming criminal. Surely ruthless, but also interesting and endearing in a strange way. A complex character embroiled in weird adventures. On the other hand, Liz (and Kat) are heavy baggage, dragging down the show with their hysterics. I am not sure if the authors wanted to instill way too much "female empowerment" to the plot, but they managed the opposite, creating characters that tick all the boxes of stereotyped females, moved only by instincts and feelings. Liz instant love for her cheating, criminal, laying mother was revolting as it was unbelievable.
Don't even get me started with the new agent (can't even remember her name), a token to make the show even more "inclusive" by adding a totally superfluous, annoying Oriental female character. The only decent female character was Samar Navabi...

Seriously how many times do we have to go in this annoying loop? Keen is willing to buy in without hesitation to betraying Reddington - again. zero evidence provided and no personal relationship with a woman who nearly killed the man she believes to be her father, has just murdered two agents, is torturing a man next door and just had her smashed round the head. Seriously, its this sort of stupid nonsense that is going to get The Blacklist cancelled.
This episode kills it for me. (not believeble at all)

Warning: Spoilers
I love James Spader he carries the show for me. and lizzy I'm sorry but shes not charismatic enough I don't see a personality on the screen.
And to make matters worse the way they made her character is downright horrendous.
I mean She's: Hypocritical/ super selfish/ Disloyal and most immoral of them all.
Just because she wants to know the truth: innocent people die, a lot of people die, that is not justifiable at all.
And now she finally got it trough her thick skull that Reddington gives his live in a sec. to save hers. He is not plotting against her but she is against him. (betrays him and put his life on the line for it etc.) just because she want to know the truth. Witch is not that important at all, and btw. you will never have such emotional connection with your parents past if they weren't a part of your life at all.
Now: Lizzy was at peace with not knowing it and Reddington was/is her only family? (she proclaimed) OH wait Catarina stops by who proves to be far more ruthless and relentless then Reddington, who tortured him. And who was never part of Lizzy s life. But that doesn't matter she immediately sides with Catarina , once again betrays Reddington stabs him some more in the back. (and lets not forget Catarina endangering Lizzy s daughter)
And then this episodes ending: Catarina planned her fake assassination??? Not possible at all. I mean she cant predict what Lizzy will do? and she didn't know about the secret escape route. And all this time she had this bulletproof fest with blood capsules on? How on earth can you coordinate that with those 2 Russians in that moment and time. (in a car she just stole) This is so Soapy , so unrealistic I hate that. I was actually angry about this all, ruining my tv show. People giving this a 8 or 10 is beyond my believe.

The stupidity jumps above the limit. Enough is enough. Not only I've struggled through "special FBI unit that works only for Keen's needs" and the "neighbor -nanny" part but now I have to painfully watch bypolar character (who btw never gives a damn about her baby except for the time she needs it for the plot) believe the first word that comes of the Katerina mother character. Impossible to watch this nonsense along with awful awful just terribly awful piece of actress.
