Director Nicolas F. Costoglou and co-writer Max S. Ebeling came the idea to this project while eating at a local takeaway, while the show Mountain Monsters (2013) was shown on TV. They both found it to be so unintentionally funny, that they couldn't stop watching and thought about the fact that these people get paid to run through a forest while screaming at the top of their lungs and trying to catch fantastical beasts, which they never actually do.
Thinking to themselves that they could easily do the same and have fun with it, they worked on the script and gathered their friends to work on the film for two days, which was all they needed to get a equally entertaining result...
The bad cinematography (which get's gradually more competent, with more emphasize on character staging towards the end), the aimless editing and the lousy acting are all intentional to mirror the style of Reality-TV-Shows like Mountain Monsters (2013) and others.
Director and Editor Nicolas F. Costoglou found it to be more demanding and stressful than making an intentionally good movie.
Nearly all of the dialogue in the movie is directly lifted from the show Mountain Monsters (2013), from which the idea originated, also most of the visual jokes are direct, more over-the-top, adaptions of scenes from the show.
After Nicolas F. Costoglou and his sister Helena Costoglou finished editing the scene (with all visual- and sound-effects in place) in which the Xtroarordinare Wildlife-Team wildly shoots everywhere inside their meeting room, they watched it at least 15-times, because they found it to be extremely funny.
After that they had actual muscular pain and a lot of trouble trying to sleep afterwards...
The scene in which Dig "The Big" Crab accidentally breaks his shotgun (which is called "Evelyn"), was actually a real accident. Because they couldn't fix the shotgun, director Nicolas F. Costoglou decided to make it part of the story and give the characters even more (equally unconvincing) reasons to hunt for the "Moorwen".
