The second episode concerns itself with the human drama of the poisonings.

The blame game is in the background although Russia is a suspect.

DS Nick Bailey is in intensive care and his wife just does not know how ill he is as the police are opaque. The police are unsure how the nerve agent was delivered and spread.

The police eventually figure that Bailey touched the door handle and spread it throughout the Skirpal's house.

Ross Cassidy is concerned about his friends the Skirpal's and he is also under media siege. He does say something telling which should concern the security services. He knew all about Sergei Skripal through Google. No one changed his name. If the Russian state wanted to harm him, it seems he was easy to find.

The people of Salisbury especially those living near the Skirpal's also feel under siege. There are parallels to the current Covid 19 crisis, business are suffering through loss of trade and tourism.

I did think though that this could had been two part drama. Given that the events only took place two years ago, you do wonder if we needed to know about the immediate impact on some of the families.
