With the proliferation of Top Tens and Best Of lists on the internet at this time of year we wanted to try something a little different.
2009 was an important year for the business of cinema; games were changed with the acquiescence of audiences to the notion of 3D, low budgets met with large returns, old franchises spawned reboots and rebakes with varying success, the British film industry remained strong and gave us some bright new stars in our sky.
We asked our writers to come up with an alternative set of awards which would honour those films, directors and actors who made 2009 such an enjoyable year. Strong emotions are rendered in strong language, be warned if words offend.
So, here now, I present to you our awards for 2009 – The Truffles.

2009 meant, for me, the respectable return to sci-fi. Star Trek, District 9, Moon and now Avatar showed that sci-fi

From time to time, I like posting super duper high resolution photos from films on the site, so that those who might be interested can take a look at the details or use the files for their computer desktop wallpaper. I do this more often with production photos from the Pixar films, because I just love seeing all the little details. After the jump I've included previously released photos from Toy Story 3 and Tron Legacy, along with a slightly high resolution version of the Tron Legacy billboard advertisement which was posted earlier in the week.

With the Christmas movie season fast approaching, Disney is trying to tease interest in what they're hoping will be the smash hit of next December, Tron: Legacy, a sequel 27 years in the making. Last week, a new poster and still image were released. Now, a new Tron: Legacy theater banner has been unveiled, depicting a light cycle in action, one of the fan-favorite vehicles featured in the original Tron.
Tron: Legacy is directed by
Joseph Kosinski and stars
Jeff Bridges,
Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund.

'Tron' Billboard Goes Vroom in Los Angeles

Here's a sweet new billboard for Tron Legacy that Disney put up in Los Angeles (at the corner of Santa Monica and Glendora, according to Geek Tyrant). What's even cooler is that we'll get a new Tron image every month at this location.
When the teaser for this film came out of nowhere at Comic Con 2008, the response could not have been better. At that time, Disney had it lined up for a December 2011 release, but I think the demand to see the movie pushed it forward. Or maybe everyone just realized it wouldn't take quite as long to make it as they thought.

Jeff Bridges Video Interview Crazy Heart

Opening today, in limited release, is Fox Searchlight’s Crazy Heart. If you haven’t yet heard about the film it’s understandable. Originally scheduled for release next year, Fox Searchlight has mounted an impressive last minute campaign to get the film into theaters as they’re trying to get Jeff Bridges his long deserved Oscar. But let me back up a second. You might first want to know what the film is about.
Jeff Bridges stars as the anti-hero Bad Blake in the debut feature film from writer-director Scott Cooper. Bad Blake is a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who’s had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times. And yet, Bad can’t help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician.

New Banner for Tron Legacy

Above you will see the new banner for Disney’s upcoming 3D action flick Tron Legacy and like the previous marketing we’ve seen for the film, it looks very, very cool. The banner was originally released to ten lucky Tron Legacy Facebook fans who won the Tron Legacy Facebook contest we told you about last week, but now we all get to enjoy it. My only question about the banner is why did they leave out the word “Legacy”? Hopefully folks looking at this online will understand it’s a sequel and not a 3D remake of the original.
For those just tuning in, here’s the official synopsis:
Tron is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), looks into his father’s disappearance

So this doesn't really count as a poster, but it's close enough. Earlier this week, Disney installed a new billboard in Los Angeles (near Santa Monica Blvd and Westwood Blvd) for the upcoming Tron Legacy. The photo of the billboard (above) comes from AICN, where they also say that the photo will change every month from now until this is released next December. I wonder what else will show up? ComingSoon also landed a clean, high quality version of the banner image, which you can see below. This was also the "first photo" that was sent to select Facecbook fans as part of a promo they ran. So anyway, check it out below.

Another Dazzling, Funky Look at Tron Legacy

The original Tron had more than a few fans. This we know for sure. And the new film, Tron Legacy, Disney's CG-amplified sequel to the story that put Jeff Bridges inside the game, looks to have enough cool factor to capture a few more.
Our friends at Coming Soon stumbled upon a brand new promotional image for the film, which reminds us of the neon-glowing chaos that is to come from director Joseph Kosinski and crew. Personally, I couldn't be more excited, as Tron is one my guilty pleasures from my youth. And while I was too young to catch the original on the big screen, I have no doubt that this modern day update will at least show us something neat.
Tron is due in theaters and IMAX 3D on December 17, 2010.

Jeff Bridges is one of Hollywoods most successful actors and is now staring in "Crazy Heart," a story about broken down country singer Bad Blake. The film revolves around Blake's life on the road from sleeping in sleazy motels to playing at beer joints and bowling alleys. While living in the shadows of his young and successful protege played by Colin Farrell, Bad Blake must come to terms with his limitations. But that all changes when he falls harder then usual for Santa Fe journalist Jean Craddock played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Crazy Heart is based on the novel by Thomas Cobb and features original songs by T Bone Burnett.I had the chance to sit down and talk with Jeff Bridges about his Oscar worthy performance. He spoke to us about playing and singing in the film, about the similarities in the ways both actors and musicians live, working and performing with Colin Farrell,
