This is the 100th episode of the series.
The character "William Skinner" portrayed by Steven Culp is also the name of the late Chief Mate of the S.S. Lane Victory the actual ship used for filming this episode.
Steven Culp plays Commander William Skinner. The same actor played the recurring character Clayton Webb on JAG (1995), the series NCIS (2003) spun off from.
In biology a chimera is any creature that has more than one set of DNA.
So technically, a person who has had a blood transfusion is temporarily a chimera. A bone marrow or organ transplant makes someone a chimera.
And there are many chimeras born every year. The most extreme form is Vanishing Twin Syndrome, where one or more fetuses dies in utero, and is fully or partially absorbed by a surviving sibling; giving the person extra fingers, limbs, organs etc. (The most biologically amazing way this presents is true hermaphrodites, who are unique in their ability to impregnate and become pregnant.) The most common form of chimerism is heterochromia; different coloured eyes, and patches of different coloured hair and skin.
(NB. "Intersex" is not a word, and means nothing in science. Hermaphrodite means a person or animal with physical attributes of both sexes. From the God Hermaphroditos who was the "perfect blend of male and female.)
