Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the latest member of the "Supernatural" cast to join showrunner Eric Kripke's most recent creation: the filthy, irreverent superhero satire series "The Boys." Morgan played John Winchester, father of the demon-hunting Winchester brothers (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) in "Supernatural," and in "The Boys" season 4 he'll be introduced as CIA analyst Joe Kessler. There's a possibility he could even be reunited with his on-screen son, since Ackles also joined the world of "The Boys" last season as a very special boy: Soldier Boy.
This was Ackles' first time suiting up on camera as a superhero, which is actually pretty surprising given that his 15-season tenure on "Supernatural" saw him in a variety of disguises. Soldier Boy is currently taking a cryogenic nap, but after season 3 ended, Kripke told Entertainment Weekly, "I can't imagine the series ending without Soldier Boy making another appearance." Ackles himself is...

Eric Kripke is gonna catch ’em all. “The Boys” showrunner has slowly but surely been casting the stars of the iconic CW series “Supernatural,” which Kripke created, on his R-rated Amazon Prime Video superhero drama. And he’s got one “very big one” he’s eyeing to bring on in Season 5, even if it’s for “a single episode” — Jared Padalecki, a.k.a. Sam Winchester.
“He’s been busy the last few years, so schedules haven’t worked out,” Kripke told Variety in an interview Thursday, referring to Padalecki’s starring role on the CW’s “Walker,” which was canceled earlier this week after four seasons. Padalecki starred alongside Jensen Ackles on the CW’s “Supernatural” for 15 seasons, from its debut on what was then the WB in 2005 through its series finale in 2020.
“But now, unfortunately, [‘Walker’] got canceled — but the good thing is he’s free,” Kripke said.

Canadian procedural Wild Cards is coming back for a second season on The CW.
The renewal news came this morning as originating broadcaster CBC renewed the show and unveiled it at its Upfronts.
It marks a bit of good news for The CW, which canceled Walker earlier this week, while Canadian drama The Spencer Sisters, which it also aired, was canceled at CTV.
The show, stars Grey’s Anatomy’s Giacomo Gianniotti, Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan and Jason Priestley, has been one of The CW’s stronger performers over the last year.
Earlier this month, The CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz told Deadline that he was keen to bring back the show for more episodes.

When Supernatural ended, Jared Padalecki went on to star in Walker, a reboot of the classic Chuck Norris TV series Walker, Texas Ranger. While his former co-star Jensen Ackles saw his Supernatural spinoff, The Winchesters end after a short time, Walker continued on. However, that has now ended.

“Walker", the action crime series reboot of the 1990's western drama "Walker, Texas Ranger", starting Jared Padalecki, Lindsey Morgan, Molly Hagan and Mason Thames, has been canceled after 4 seasons at The CW:
"...'Texas Ranger Cordell Walker', (Padalecki) has his hands tied – literally. Taken and held captive by an anarchist group who is determined to break him, Walker must face a painful memory from his past he’s never shared with anyone and be forced to team up with unexpected ally, 'Julia' (Anna Enge), if he wants to get out alive.
"Back in Austin, the 'Davidsons' are officially gone, and the Walkers are free to move back into their family ranch — but the homecoming has been anything but jovial. Walker’s absence has caused a tornado that has shifted everyone off course, forcing them to abandon their new paths and step back into the familiar shoes of waiting for him to come home.

Eric Kripke rarely misses his shots: the man who wrote and produced Supernatural, he’s now busy working on The Boys and its spin-off Generation V. Despite shifting to an entirely new franchise, Kripke didn’t forget his star alums aka the Winchester brothers — he already got Jensen Ackles to play Soldier Boy in The Boys Season 3, and now the producer is seeking to get Jared Padalecki back, too.
Will Jared Padalecki Join The Boys?
Recently, Eric Kripke sat down with EW to discuss The Boys — and shared promising news about his attempts to reunite the good old Supernatural cast on his new TV show.
Apparently, fans are not the only ones who have been hoping for the Winchester brothers to get back together, and Kripke wants to do it, too.

With the Riverdale finale in August 2023, The CW officially entered what seemed to be a new era of content. While some other series were still wrapping up, network executives shared ambitious plans to finally switch audiences, make the network profitable, and join ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox as a major network.
Whether The CW has achieved the financial goals it set for itself remains to be seen. What is obvious is the change in the series lineup for the 2024/2025 season, with many TV series either left out as there was no confirmation of their renewal, or very different from what the channel used to show.
Is Walker Renewed for Season 5?
Now it seems that The CW is about to cut all ties with the star of one of the most popular shows the network has ever produced, Supernatural. Season 4 of Jared Padalecki's Walker will be the last to be produced by the network.

The great guest stars continue running to Walker! In the past few weeks, Jared Padalecki‘s Texas Ranger drama has welcomed the returns of Matt Barr and his fellow Walker: Independence costar Justin Johnson Cortez, who has been heating up Austin as Det. Luna. And now, the CW hit that had better be renewed is about to get a visit from some major TV royalty. TV Insider has learned exclusively that SAG award-winning and Emmy-nominated actress Sharon Lawrence (from the equally Western-tinged Joe Picket) is set to debut in the May 22 episode, “Witt’s End,” as a barrel raced-turned-crime boss named Joanna. Described as “a killer in Wranglers,” the only thing that surpasses the villain’s “greedy grit and tenacity is her vendetta against those that have wronged her.” Who that may be remains a mystery, but we’re betting it’s someone with in the Walker camp—especially...

Jared Padalecki’s Cordell Walker may be riding off into the proverbial sunset. Upfront week, during which the CW unveiled its fall 2024-25 schedule, came and went without decisions on the network’s legacy drama series, including flagships All American and Walker.
As a result, Walker has started breaking down the sets in Austin, TX. The crew was informed of the decision on Friday, a day after the CW schedule reveal, sources tell Deadline. The dismantling is already in full force, with crew members taking other jobs.
While the move is not permanent — If a renewal ultimately comes, the sets can be put up, with producer CBS Studios saving money on stage rental in the interim — it illustrates how close to a cancellation Walker is.

Octavia Spencer has said that her aspirations in the film world were initially much smaller than being the Oscar-winning actress she became. In fact, she initially aspired to just work behind the scenes in the film world in an office capacity.
After working office jobs on a few films that shot in her native Alabama, Spencer eventually got a job in the casting department of “A Time to Kill” starring Matthew McConaughey. She convinced director Joel Schumacher to let her audition, and he cast her in a small role in the film. Her friend Taylor encouraged her to move to Los Angeles, and she began to get steady work as an actress. While she worked for 15 solid years in small parts on films and guest appearances on television shows, her career trajectory didn’t seem to be one that would make her a three-time Oscar nominee. While she worked for 15 solid years in small parts on films and guest appearances on television shows, her career trajectory didn’t seem to be one that would make her a three-time Oscar nominee. The CW announced its fall lineup Thursday, with the return of Superman & Lois, two new game shows based on classic board games and the new scripted entry Joan, a limited series starring Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner, among others.
The lineup comes after Nexstar’s acquisition of the network in 2022, and amid a new focus of becoming profitable and reaching a broader audience. That, in turn, has led to fewer U.S.-produced scripted dramas and a need to be scrappy and cost-conscious, as the linear audience declines and many other broadcast networks, including The CW, are seeing the need to slash budgets.
In light of this, The CW has also leaned into the acquisition of secondary sports rights, game shows and new shows in which the network owns all rights worldwide and therefore can profit off of the programs on streaming, unlike with its legacy shows All American...

The CW is looking to keep acquiring sports rights and is eyeing an expansion on Sundays as well as potential team-ups with other rights holders, President Dennis Miller said in an interview with Deadline.
In an upfronts briefing alongside Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment, Miller said the pace of sports rights dealmaking has surprised “everyone, from Perry [Sook, CEO of parent company Nexstar] on down.” Nexstar closed its acquisition of 75% of The CW in 2022, with former 50-50 partners CBS and Warner Bros. each retaining 12.5% positions.
After Liv Golf was positioned as the first CW sports property, college football and basketball, WWE Nxt wrestling and the NASCAR Xfinity Series have followed, some already airing and some due in the coming months. It’s been less than two years since the close of Nexstar’s acquisition of The CW and the network’s primetime slate could not look more different.
In addition to the broadcaster’s shifted focus to sports, unscripted fare and foreign imports/co-productions, The CW will soon be getting into the original TV movie business. In an interview with Variety, network president Dennis Miller and president of entertainment Brad Schwartz revealed that The CW is planning to air its own slate of films (in addition to acquired features) on Sunday nights beginning later this year.
The network already has a Sunday night movie block, which will continue in the fall according to the network’s newly-released fall 2024 schedule. But in addition to airing well-known studio movies, they will be producing movies of their own — as many as ten. The network is prepping a deal with an unnamed TV movie...

Look through The CW‘s newly announced schedule for the Fall 2024-2025 season and you’ll notice that Walker and All American are missing from the lineup. Does this mean the series are canceled? The CW bosses Dennis Miller and Brad Schwartz addressed the shows’ notable omissions. Walker and All American are two of The CW’s most successful shows and some of the only titles to survive the massive programming overhaul the network carried out in recent years. Miller and Schwartz said on May 16, the day of The CW’s upfront presentation during which the network provides programming updates, that decisions about the fate of Walker and All American will be made “soon.” “We didn’t feel any need to rush to meet some Upfront deadline,” Schwartz, the President of Entertainment at The CW, told Deadline. “All American is on the air right now, so we’re seeing how that does.

All American and Walker are two of The CW’s biggest shows.
So, it was somewhat of a surprise that neither show has been handed a renewal and a spot on the network’s fall schedule, which was unveiled this morning.
The CW bosses Dennis Miller and Brad Schwartz explained why this is the case but said that there are ongoing conversations with the studios behind these shows with Schwartz promising that a decision on All American will happen “soon”.
Both shows are expensive and as Deadline has explained before, financials for all three homegrown dramas are challenging, particularly for Walker, which won’t be able to continue unless its very low license fee is raised by the network.
Schwartz, who is President of Entertainment at The CW, told Deadline, “We didn’t feel any need to rush to meet some Upfront deadline. All American is on the air right now,...

The CW has unveiled its slate for the fall 2024-2025 season with returning favorites and new titles, including the expansion of the network’s CW Sports content. Hit scripted series Superman & Lois will return for its final season, and it’s the only pre-Nexstar era show currently on the schedule for next season. Canadian drama series Sullivan’s Crossing is also set to return. This means popular scripted dramas such as Walker, All American, and All American: Homecoming remain in limbo. None of those shows appear on the fall lineup and aren’t confirmed to return at midseason either. “No decisions have been made yet on those titles,” a network representative told TVLine. Instead, the lineup includes new scripted programming, including Joan, starring Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, and The Librarians: The Next Chapter, a spinoff of the original fantasy adventure series The Librarians. Gotta love a Texas ranger with a vocal range! In the Wednesday, May 15, episode of Walker, entitled “Hold Me Now,” badass-in-a-big hat Cassie (Ashley Reyes) and smokin’-but-maybe-suspicious Det. Luna (Walker Independence alum Justin Johnson Cortez) take a breather from the ongoing Jackal case with a stop at what appears to be Austin’s nicest karaoke bar. Commiserating about the emotional toll of tracking down the serial killer, Luna opens up to Cassie about how he first found a way to shake off the bad energy: by singing in front of a bunch of strangers. Rebecca Brenneman/The CW Now, even though the two of them are seriously vibing, the clip ends before either of them can step up to the mic. Still, we can’t imagine the powers-that-be behind the scenes would stage this cozy lil’ hang in such an environment and not unleash their secret weapon: Reyes’ singing voice!

One of the audience’s favorite genres is western, without doubt. But even the hardcore fans can’t say for sure what it is that makes them fall in love with it in the first place. The captivating macho-cowboy stories that are intertwined with classy romances, or the landscapes and horse riding scenes…
Seems like it’s the mix of all that stuff that creates that special atmosphere on screen, the one you want to come back to. But the thing is that the genre is now transformed into many subgenres, with the most popular among them being neo-westers or weird westerns.
Let’s talk about the latter.
What Is a Weird Western Exactly?
Well, the perfect answer is given by Prime Video with its 2022 creation Outer Range. It’s the perfect combination of classic, traditional western mixing in with sci-fi mysteries that are yet to be fully explored.

When Dolly Parton realized she wanted to be a musician, she set her sights on performing at the Grand Ole Opry. Some of this TV season’s blood has already been spilled — looking at you, “NCIS: Hawai’i” — but as we head toward upfronts week, there are still a number of broadcast shows “on the bubble.”
But as the networks settle in on a diet of mostly stable franchises and fewer series pilots, there’s also less primetime schedule frenzy this year. The days before upfronts week which would normally mean a rapid fire few days of broadcast series renewals and cancellations announcements. But normal left the building a long time ago.
The broadcast network portion of upfronts has been so significantly pared down from years past that it hardly resembles what it used to be. These days, most of the broadcast networks announce renewals and cancellations well ahead of their actual presentations.
Take CBS, which has already announced its new fall and spring schedules as well as all of its renewals and cancellations.

General Hospital fans tuned into Thursday’s (May 2) episode may have noticed something a little different about Aiden Webber; well, that’s because a brand new actor has taken over the role. When Supernatural ended on The CW in 2020, many viewers were left with an insurmountable emotional void (and it wasn't just because of the controversial finale). The main consolation was the then-new sports drama All American, which had been on the air for two years and had become one of the most critically acclaimed shows, earning a perfect 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes in its second season. What The CW still lacked, however, were impressive ratings.
That all changed in January 2021 with the release of the neo-Western action drama Walker. Not only was the new series a reboot of the iconic 1993 series starring Chuck Norris, but it was fronted by none other than Supernatural star Jared Padalecki as the legendary Texas Ranger. Each season's ratings shattered all previous records on The CW set by other projects.
