I quite enjoyed it...
alexateddy-6618618 October 2021
Had no idea it was a comedy, though. I mean, I didn't laugh once, but still enjoyed it. Are you sure it's a comedy? Obviously, if you're looking for something to make you laugh, you might want to watch something else...

3 Series is 3 too many
ygwerin17 July 2020
I had seen the mentions of this show on the box and finally decided to check it out. Just checked the reviews here and couldn't believe the rave reviews that I saw first.

After the first episode I just had to try the subsequent episodes, to hope in vain that it could only get better.

I am viewing this via Now TV and it lists 6 episodes but there is only 3 actual ones.

I recognised Simon Bird from trailers for the Inbetweeners, but have yet to actually see any of it. And nothing I see of him in this show, is any inducement to be bothered.

I would say that Western Super Mare would have to be easily a better seaside resort, than Sandlands is a comedy show.

I would like to be able to say that this show is a waste of great comedy talent, but that is stretching credulity to breaking point.

Very few people in this show, have ever had any talent at all. Of those David Walliams and Sanjeev Bhaskar, are merely regurgitating old routines. The only other one is Sophie Thompson and her part in this is totally overwhelmed by Walliams over the top character.

Written (badly) by a 10 year old
Foxtrot-Alpha7774 March 2020
As one of the first to review this I would suggest you really don't bother watching this horrendous attempt at comedy, the plot is practically non-existent, the performances are just horrendous stereotypes, the acting is wooden and I have yet to find a joke that wasn't done to death during the Carry-On franchise.

Did I laugh...no not once, didn't even raise a smile.

Complete and utter rubbish so I was amazed the first review gave it such a glowing review, think it was written by the writers, funniest thing they ever wrote.

Is it a classic in the making... that's the only thing that would make me laugh with Sandylands.

So first episode watched, the others will stay un-watched.

Candyfloss & clotted cream weirdness to warm your cockles & wells!
katehemstock6 March 2020
Really loved the first two episodes, I have memories from the 90's of guest houses run by the most exquisitely-weird husband and wife duos; and this is played out, like a dream, by David Walliams & Sophie Thompson!

Harriet Webb is a stand out performance for me, adding a very lovable 'sod off' kind of vibe to Tina.

Not sure why some of the reviews aren't getting it, but maybe it's not for everyone (I don't like candyfloss!)

However, if you like a nostalgic bounce back into a parallel, seaside universe, where crime rates and violence are more about hurling stollen sausage rolls from a finger buffet than the terrors of internet news feeds...then grab a cuppa, even a Mr Whippy if you can and tune in!

Can't wait for tonight's finale :))

It's a CBBC Program for kids with adult humour.
braddavidpsychicmedium17 March 2020
Was looking forward to watching this with the cast that's in it. All I can say, it's a kids program with stupid one liners which weren't even funny. Absolutely horrible script and acting. David Walliams being David Walliams, acting like he's just come off the set from Little Britain. The best actor was the Asian girl. Hope they don't make another series. JUST DON'T!

Eccentric and warm hearted seaside comedy
christina-148377 March 2020
Tuned in for the first episode and quickly felt compelled to watch all 3. Lovable characters, a cracking seaside setting, a well-written script executed brilliantly by a 5-star cast. Sandylands is a breath of fresh air. Can't wait for Series 2. Only wish there were more episodes per series; it was too short.

Bring back On the Buses
jonathan_pickett17 March 2020
Absolutely awful. Good actors dragged down by a pitiful script and even worse jokes.

It begs belief how this even got commissioned

I agree with another reviewer about the 10/10 reviews as this was an horrendous attempt at comedy. Makes you wish for a return to the hey day of British Comedy.

Sandylands is so lame it makes On the Buses look like a true classic

whats happened to british comedy? awful
davet-152755 March 2020
Does comedy mean something else these days ,no humour or laugh out loud jokes or sketches, this is a kids programme with adult language and carry on humour, infact if they edit it without the language would be good for kids, best thing about this is it only about an hour for the full three episodes . the cast must have been paid well as its star studded, well c listers, who do not care about their reputation as they must have read the bad script.

Wonderful and surprisingly complex comedy.
rickeverett7 March 2020
Set in a slightly seedy seaside resort, inhabited by a host of intriguing and complex charcters, Sandylands is a hilarious place to visit. A wonderful mix of humour presented by an amazing cast. I loved it and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Sums up what is wrong with British Comedy today. Trying to copy successful 70s shows....badly. Avoid.

Carry on Sandylands
peterrichboy13 March 2020
If your wondering why some people give this ten and others one, it's because the nines and tens are fake reviews, otherwise this painfully unfunny three part series on Gold would be less than five. A shame as the writers and Stella cast of British acting talent make a brave attempt at an old school carry on style double entendres cheeky seaside humour. And maybe herein lyes the problem with Sandylands. Simon Bird just plays an older version of Will from the Inbetweeners, David Williams plays one of his characters from Little Britain and Sanjeev Bhasker well plays Sanjeev Bhasker. Only Hugh Bonniville is unrecognisable as the one eyed fraud investigator. There are a couple of amusing one liners and Weston Super Mare actually looks an appealing seaside resort, which in itself is no mean feet. 4/10

Genius! Loving this new series, featuring cringy lines, qwerky characters and hilarious consequences. Just put it on series link, then realised it's only 3 parts. Come back soon!

Unfunny.
ianlittleproud19 October 2021
How this utter drivel has commissioned a second series is beyond me. It is a waste of talent and David Walliams is a waste of space. Not only is it not funny the first series was absolute nonsense. I watched hoping it would improve but alas that wasn't the case.

Don't listen to some of the miseryguts on here, it's great fun!
paulbg-5641715 March 2020
Watched three episodes of the new comedy Sandylands, mainly drawn in by the big cast and am personally a big fan of Bhaskar. Didn't quite know what to expect and the tone is very 'quirky', but I actually really enjoyed it, it's obviously not intended to take too seriosuly, but since when were light entertainment tv shows meant to be?? I see the usual miserable reviews on here slating a comedy show, if you are a humourless person and enjoy being a curmudgeon then this probably isn't for you, but if you like a laugh then I say give it a go. Let's face it, we could all do with a bit of light relief at the moment! Hope there is more to come!

A fantastic ensemble cast, great script, why doesn't this have a much higher rating? I would highly recommend this, and the second series is just as good as the first.

Exceptionally Good!
ivonnaev7 March 2020
A brilliant, intelligently written script with unforgettable characters. They are all lovable in their own way, but Tina is just pure joy! I watched it more than once and every time it just got better! It is the kind of show that really grows on you. I can't wait to see more episodes and find out where Les and Emily wash up next!

Brilliant comedy, amazing cast
jenniferomran4 March 2020
Great plot, heart as well as laughs, and the most amazing cast - David Walliams, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Hugh Bonneville, Sophie Thompson, Craig Parkinson, Simon Bird... brilliant performances from the newcomers Natalie Dew and Harriet Webb too! Don't miss it - this is a classic in the making.

Proper british seaside comedy
kathleen_burn8 March 2020
Its like a modern day carry on - full of innuendo and smutty one-liners. Heartfelt comedy at its best. Absolutely brilliantly written and acted by all involved. Cant wait for series 2.

Ps I want an "I drank Kermit's mess" tshirt 😁

redr-220898 March 2020
Stellar cast and great writing. Very (very) British. Cracking one liners and surreal seaside characters sent up without being cynical. Nothing else quite like this out there. It's a self contained story through just 3 episodes, be a shame if this ended here

Seen 2 episodes so far and looking foreward to the last. Derek and Jeanie are so fab, love the cucumber water and princess Di obsession!! Hugh Bonneville's baddy is great too, but my favourite overall is Tina <3

Entertaining show, very light hearted, great cast and characters
bacchusplay6 March 2020
I saw the trailers for this show and had to check it out as I think Sanjeev Bhaskar is brilliant, just seeing him cheers me up. The seaside setting and story also appealed to me. I loved it and was upset to find out that it was only 3 episodes long. I thought it was just the first 3 of a full length series! The type of comedy is all familiar, light hearted stuff but for me that is not a negative thing at all, sometimes you just want to switch off and be entertained. There were a couple of scenes that I though were very funny and for the rest of the time it was just good fun to watch and that'll do for me!

Comedy first but relatable characters and plot under the surface
selinasauv15 March 2020
Watched this for a bit of light relief and escape from the news / doom and gloom and it's silly and lighthearted with lots of jokes, I don't mind that, in fact it's what I came for...

Underneath that though I liked the Emily and dad storyline, maybe I can relate as also had a shoddy dad... this has some good strong women in it, Emily is great and I love Tina, yes she's the comedy sidekick but also a larger than life character. Also genuinely nice to see main characters in a British comedy who are not all white, and their race is not the point of the plot!

Have watched the first two episodes so far - went straight to the box set after watching the first episode live. It had me laughing in the first few minutes. Definitely recommend.
