Netflix’s documentaries spawn quite a lot of memes, which revolve basically around their tendency to pick subject matters that may not fully lend themselves to a documentary. The latest Netflix documentary Cyberbunker: The Criminal Underworld uses all the tricks in the book to raise the stakes of the documentary and create the illusion of a gripping narrative, but in all honesty, it’s just obfuscation in the hope that people will find it interesting. The story is about a few rather odd individuals who came together to form a company Cyberbunker, that let websites host their data, even if the data was of criminal nature.
This simple idea for a whole documentary seems short of breath to run the course, which is why there has to be the ‘talking heads’ approach to the narrative. People sit in front of the camera, and like in a news report, the actual events are dramatized poorly.

Four years ago, it was announced that Ben Wheatley would be writing, directing, and executive producing Generation Z, a “hilarious, frightening, and political” series that would consist of six hour-long episodes that would “mix flesh-eating zombies into a story that satirizes how Brexit has divided the UK.” That project didn’t make it into production when it was originally supposed to because of the pandemic shutdown… but after making his latest film Meg 2: The Trench (you can read our review at This Link and check out our interview with the filmmaker Here), Wheatley has circled back around to Generation Z and is now knee-deep into filming it! To celebrate the fact that Generation Z is finally being made, Channel 4 has unveiled a batch of first look images, and you can check those out at the bottom of this article.

Actor Denzel Washington made a career for himself as one of Hollywood’s most popular and consistent leading men. But despite his accomplishments, there came a point where Washington considered walking away from acting for good.

Washington’s filmography is full of memorable and lauded material. A few of them have even been nominated and won Oscars. But over time, the actor started becoming disillusioned with his career. Not because he wasn’t being offered work, but because he wasn’t interested in the work he was being offered.
“A couple of years ago I was really bored and I was getting some great roles but just thought I can’t do this anymore,” Washington once told Movie Hole.
This changed after he directed the feature Antwone Fisher. The 2002 movie was based on the real-life story of the titular figure,...

Hard to believe that a big star like Denzel Washington, who has an impressive filmography that features many audience favorites, only has been in one franchise in his career — The Equalizer series. Inside Man doesn’t count as the direct-to-Netflix sequel does not feature him. While the esteemed actor has starred in remakes, adaptations, and action movies prior, The Equalizer 2 became Washington’s first sequel. And now that The Equalizer 3 is on its way, this marks his first trilogy.
It’s been ten years since Washington would partner back up with the director of Training Day for his first go around as Robert McCall in 2014’s The Equalizer, based on the CBS television series that ran from 1985-1989. After having played him in three movies, the Academy Award-winning actor is finally ready to bid adieu to his first franchise. Empire reports on Washington’s conclusion of McCall’s story.

How do you come to terms with being pulled between the past and the present?
That's what Tom Hiddleston's Loki has to consider in the official trailer for Loki Season 2, premiering October 6 on Disney+.
"I'm being pulled through time, between the past and the present," the MCU veteran says.
"If what I saw is true, there's nothing that stands between this world and utter destruction."
The MCU has utilized the multiverse in the past, so there's a good chance we'll revisit that on Loki Season 2, assuming the world Loki and his friends live in isn't salvageable.
The trailer seemingly hints at Loki going up against He Who Remains (played by Jonathan Majors) and several other villains to protect the integrity of the timeline.
Sophia Di Martino is also back as Sylvie, alongside Owen Wilson (as Mobius), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Renslayer), Wunmi Mosaku (Hunter B-15), Neil Ellice (Hunter D-90), Eugene Cordero...

I don't remember what the first R-rated film I ever saw was. I know it was fairly early on, probably around age eight or nine, and it was not some plan I'd concocted to see one or anything like that. Sometimes you just happen upon an R-rated film as a kid, and even though I had parents who were fairly protective about what I watched growing up, that kind of thing just happens. I do vividly remember the first R-rated film I saw in a theater was: "V for Vendetta." I was 12 years old, and I can still picture the bargaining conversation between my dad, my uncle, my two years older cousin, and I about seeing it opening weekend in March 2006. I got to go, and one week later, we had the same conversation about Spike Lee's "Inside Man," which I also successfully went to. After that, the guardrails were off.

"This is all I fight, brother." Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for an action thriller film titled The Engineer, the latest from director Danny A. Abeckaser. This is yet another collab between Abeckaser and his writer Kosta Kondilopoulos - they also made I Love Us and this year's Inside Man previously. The film is a pulse-pounding action-thriller based on true events. It follows the biggest manhunt in the history of Israel to find Yahya Ayyash, the mastermind bombmaker who oversaw a group of suicide troops in Israel in the middle of the 1990s. Emile Hirsch stars as ex-Mossad agent Etan who leads an elite, covert team of agents and mercenaries to find the man responsible — the elusive "Engineer." The cast includes Tzahi Halevi, Angel Bonanni, Adam Haloon, Omer Hazan, and Yarden Toussia-Cohen. This looks terrible, even the performances. It just seems like more jingoistic cinema and Israeli propaganda. Can't recommend this.

"If I was gonna do it at all, I would have to do it right..." Vertical Ent. has revealed the official trailer for Inside Man, a mob thriller from actor / director Danny A. Abeckaser. Not to be confused with Spike Lee's awesome Inside Man, or Willem Dafoe's Inside from earlier in the year. Emile Hirsch stars as a disgraced police detective, Bobby Belucci, who goes in undercover after a violent reaction to his wife's infidelity gets him in trouble. His plan to infiltrate the family's notorious DeMeo crew and get closer to the boss, Roy, sinks him deeper and deeper into the world of corruption and revenge. Also starring Jake Cannavale, Lucy Hale, Ashley Greene, Danny A. Abeckaser, Bo Dietl, and Vincent Laresca. Another derivative crime flick. // Continue Reading ›...

It’s almost impossible to escape once you get involved with the mob, and if I were Emile Hirsch‘s Bobby Belluci, I’d start learning how to swim with the fishes. Vertical Entertainment proudly presents an Inside Man trailer depicting a bloody tale of deception, dangerous liaisons, and a disturbing body count. Based on actual events, Inside Man tells the story of Bobby Belluci, a disgraced police detective seeking redemption by going undercover to expose a violent crime syndicate. However, as Bobby sinks deeper into the mob, the price for absolution may be higher than he can afford.

“65” (Sony) and “Shazam: Fury of the Gods” (Warner Bros. Discovery), both $19.99, were the sole new entries on VOD charts on an otherwise static week. However, three’s a trend: The new titles join last week’s “Creed III” in arriving on PVOD in 28 days or fewer after their theatrical releases.
As home-release strategies evolve, it’s clear that distributors love that lucrative PVOD revenue. At the same time, these charts reinforce the idea that playing in theaters elevates these titles.
“65” was a modest theatrical performer ($31 million in 31 days), but with its sci-fi genre and Adam Driver as the lead it can draw early home viewers. And since Sony doesn’t own a streamer, it has more incentive to maximize VOD.
“Shazam” sequel after 21 days is atypical for Wbd, especially for a DC title. After Wbd ended its disruptive same-day theatrical/HBO Max strategy, the studio said any theatrical...

With the premiere four weeks away, Prime Video has unveiled a new trailer for the second most expensive TV series of all time: "Citadel." Developed by the duo that gave us "Avengers: Endgame" and "Avengers: Infinity War" among other major Marvel Cinematic Universe hits -- Joe and Anthony Russo -- "Citadel" is set to kick off a new spy universe that will expand to include multiple untitled spin-off series set in India, Italy, and Mexico.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden are in the lead for the primary American iteration, which takes place eight years on from the fall of the titular independent global spy agency. When in the midst of an unfocused crowd struggling to be heard, it helps to have a bullhorn. That’s the idea behind amplification, right? A little extra help to shape and project your voice over an increasingly cacophonous din? And though it’s something philosophers may debate, our general feeling is that you just don’t hand a bullhorn to just anyone. And we have 30 years’ worth of Film Independent Artist Development success stories to support our assertion—including this year’s six new Amplifier Fellows.
Supported by Founding Sponsor Netflix, the second annual Amplifier Fellowship is a nine-month program designed to propel a marquee project from each Fellow forward both creatively and strategically, as well as provide Fellows with a customized mentorship pairings with both a Netflix Executive Industry Advisor as well as a Film Independent Board Member.

So many great stories in history start out with the key players hating each other — as it is in Netflix and A24’s “Beef,” streaming on Netflix in April. Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny (Steven Yeun) meet via parking lot bump turned action-movie car chase, their lives connecting and their road rage lingering in weeks and months after the incident. In reviewing the series, IndieWire’s Ben Travers said that “’Beef’ does a fine job balancing Amy and Danny’s practical intelligence and impractical passions; their bitterness toward the other driver ebbs and flows as their personal lives better or worsen, and it’s in these moments that the half-hour drama thrives.”

Lee was presented the award by his Inside Man leading man Clive Owen, who described the New Yorker as a “true trailblazer” who will go down in history as “one of the most important directors of his generation.”
Accepting the award, Lee thanked his wife, Tonya Lewis Lee, who was in the audience as well as the artists he has collaborated with throughout his career, emphasizing that his decades-long career is the result of intense collaboration.

Actor and Oscar-winner Denzel Washington once teamed up with Chiwetel Ejiofor for the Spike Lee film Inside Man. But Washington’s acting and improvisation threw Ejiofor off a bit in the film.

Washington sometimes puts his own creative input in the movies he works on. It was a skill he developed many years ago working alongside filmmaker Spike Lee. Mo Better Blues was a 1990 Lee-directed feature starring Washington as the member of a Jazz group that’s on the verge of falling apart. According to Washington, he took the creative initiative to add his own spin on a scripted scene.
“That was the first time I can remember really just setting a scenario and seeing what happened,” Washington once said in an interview with Kam Williams. “I remember this scene where we were just coming off stage,...

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.
This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.
The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

After pitting a knife-wielding Jennifer Lopez and a submachine gun-armed Jennifer Coolidge against a pack of wedding-crashing pirates in the rom-com/action mashup "Shotgun Wedding" (you can read our review of the film here), Prime Video is slowing things down a little in February. That month will see the release of the second and final season of the streamer's fantasy neo-noir series "Carnival Row," which is dropping nearly three and a half years after the first season launched in August 2019, in case you find yourself wondering (much like /Film's Valerie Ettenhofer), "Wait, so I didn't imagine the show where Orlando Bloom solves crimes and hooks up with pixie Cara Delevingne?" No, no you did not, but hey, at least now it has a proper ending!

The next 31 days may bring plenty more titles for subscribers to stream, but there are several things that may suddenly disappear from your watchlist throughout the month.
This includes one of the service’s most-streamed titles.
To minimise surprise, we have put together a comprehensive list of everything being removed.

Steven Moffat has said “we’ve just started talking about” a second season of acclaimed BBC/Netflix drama Inside Man and reiterated that he would “start writing Sherlock tomorrow” if stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman agreed to return.
While promoting his debut West End play The Unfriend on this morning’s BBC Today program, the Sherlock creator and former Doctor Who showrunner said “we’re looking at the enthusiastically-nodded-about graphs and apparently [Inside Man] performed quite well.”
The Stanley Tucci and David Tennant-starrer, which has been available on Netflix in the U.S. since Halloween, was well received critically. While its overnight audience was low, episodes of the show in which Tucci plays a convicted killer solving crimes from an American jail consolidated on 28-day catch-up above the 5M mark.
Moffat said this is reflective of the changing nature of TV ratings.

“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” Thus spoke Jesus on the Mount of Olives, when confronted by a woman charged with adultery. We are all sinners, he proclaimed, our judgement skewed. This is also the position seemingly held by Frances Poletti, creator of twisty new ITV four-parter Without Sin. There’s some Biblical-level forgiveness required in this drama about the fallout from a teenage girl’s murder.
Stella (Vicky McClure), a late-night taxi driver tormented by an all-consuming grief, haunts the streets of Nottingham. Her daughter Maisy was murdered three years ago in their family home. Husband Paul (Perry Fitzpatrick) has moved on with another woman, but Stella is still struggling. Her attempts at normality – cheesy dancing to Dexys Midnight Runners, eating toast at a late-night café, going out for a pint – leave her unmoved. But when the man convicted of Maisy’s murder – Charles Stone...
