Boos! & Whoop-doos!: 12 Months of Toilet Plunkers and Dumpster Diamonds!

23 December 2009 9:55 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The End of 2009? Whoop-doo! This year has been one hellatious shit storm from the get-go. Pregnant ladies and babies, The Great Depression Part II, pig flu, more than a handful of horrible shootings, a balloon boy, Tiger's indiscretions, and our first black president. Not to mention more dead celebrities than I can shake a stick at. Every time I turned around, some other atrocious calamity was happening right before my eyes. Making 2009 one of the most interesting years of this entire decade. According to Michael Ruppert in his film Collapse its only going to get worse before it gets better. Yes, the Teens are going to see more than half of your friends and family dead. Take account of the folks around you. By the time 2020 rears its ugly head, most of these people will be gone. Turned to dust and painful memories. My advice to you this coming New Year? »

Kristin Scott Thomas: 'I've been a very sad person, but I'm not any more'

Kristin Scott Thomas on self-belief, not being on the right list in Hollywood and playing John Lennon's Aunt Mimi in her latest film

The moment that Kristin Scott Thomas knew she didn't want to be a typical movie star, the moment it seems she switched from playing romantic leads to infinitely more interesting roles, was when a director told her she should make her character more appealing. The idea didn't grab her. "I just thought, I don't want to do that," she says. "I don't want to have to be pretty. I don't want to have to be adorable. Because if I'm watching that on screen I get irritated." She sits back with a sigh. "I can't bear it."

It was an astute response. After all, Scott Thomas's best work is not about looking doe-eyed and flicking her hair; instead it's defined by froideur, then thaw. There is a toughness in her performances, »

16 December 2009 3:02 AM, PST | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

There aren’t many items of cinematic clothing that have made more of an impact this year than the green scarf as sported by retail junkie, Becky Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) in sparkly rom-com, Confessions of a Shopaholic. This simple but chic accessory makes the colourful style maven stand out from the crowd and helps cultivate her professional writing persona, that of “The Girl in the Green Scarf”. And so with such plot significance, the movie’s costume designer, Sex and the City fashion guru, Patricia Field took influence from a past Dolce and Gabbana scarf to create something sexy, sophisticated and stunning – the cheap chic pleated green scarf. »

Leap Year Trailer And Poster Debut

12 November 2009 1:25 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

There are really two kinds of romantic comedies. There's the kind that comes out in January and February because there's nothing else to see, and makes you want to strangle yourself with hatred for the female gender and romance in general (see: Bride Wars, Confessions of a Shopaholic). Then there's the kind that comes out any other time of year, when there's actual competition, and manages to be good and not talk down to the largely female audience it's courting (see: The Proposal). And Leap Year, no matter how very much I wanted it to be good, seems to be the first kind. Starring the unendingly cute Amy Adams and the irrepressibly handsome Matthew Goode, with Adam Scott along as the "wrong man," Leap Year is going for pretty much every romantic comedy cliche in the book, at least based on the new trailer that debuted today at MSN.com. »

Boos! and Whoop-doos!: Finding Shoptimism in a Socioeconomic Crisis!

12 November 2009 12:26 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Lee Eisenberg's Shoptimism? Whoop-doo!

I'm broke. This is no new revelation. I've been heading down this road for a while. I work. I make a decent enough living. But there's no middle ground, and the weight is suddenly bearing upon my pocket book. All of my cash is going directly into bills, food, and gas. There is nothing left over. This wasn't always the case. How did I let this happen? Credit Card bills? A little. Everything I have put on credit has been a necessity that I couldn't afford in the moment. It's the socioeconomic cries of our times that have gotten me down. We're supposed to be coming out of a recession. And personally, I thought I wasn't being affected. I could at least still buy a DVD or two come payday.

Not anymore. I took on the challenge of becoming a single paycheck household in the »

Amy Heckerling Taking on a Romantic Comedy with Vampires

9 November 2009 4:08 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

With all the complaining and frustration I've expressed with adaptations and remakes in recent news, I'm even more disgusted by anymore projects dealing with vampires. However, a part of me is curious about ScreenDaily's recent announcement that Amy Heckerling (of Clueless) is working on a romantic comedy with vampires aptly titled Vamps, a story that focuses on two young female vampires living the good life in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality. As long as the vampires aren't glittering, emo-hipster sissies, then we should be good to go on this one. Krysten Ritter (last seen in Confessions of a Shopaholic) will be one of the vampires with additional casting underway and Parlay Films hoping to start production in March 2010 with Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films producing. I'll admit that the premise isn't all that engaging, but »

Amy Heckerling's 'Vamps' Takes A Seat On The Hollywood Crush Casting Couch

9 November 2009 11:30 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

From MTV.Com: What if Cher Horowitz had been a vampire living in New York City instead of a well-intentioned Beverly Hills fashionista? As if! No, seriously. Amy Heckerling, the writer-director of the beloved 1995 film "Clueless" is the latest to sink her teeth into the genre with a new romantic comedy called "Vamps."

ScreenDaily.com is reporting that the film is "a modern-day tale of two young female vampires living the good life in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardise their immortality." Krysten Ritter ("Breaking Bad," "Confessions of a Shopaholic") has been cast in one of the roles, meaning it's time to take a seat on the Hollywood Crush Casting Couch to find her bloodsucking bestie. After the jump, check out who we like for the role:

‘Clueless’ Director Amy Heckerling Jumps on Vampire Bandwagon

9 November 2009 9:06 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

As if! Director Amy Heckerling -- whose credits include 80s/90s faves Clueless and Fast Times at Ridgemont High -- is jumping in with the likes of Twilight and True Blood, taking on a vampire franchise of her own. According to Screen Daily, Heckerling is currently attached to the developing project Vamps, a romantic comedy about two young female vampires living the good life in New York until love enters the picture and each is forced to make a choice that may jeopardize their immortality. It's certainly a different take on the current vampire craze, one that sounds like it could be delivered with a lighter touch. The film is set to star Krysten Ritter (pictured above), who has appeared in such films as Confessions of a Shopaholic and on various television shows (Veronica Mars, Breaking Bad). As much as this vampire movie craze annoys me, there is no denying that Amy Heckerling has made some fun »

Universal Grabs Some Desperados

6 November 2009 5:48 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

It really was only a matter of time before a film was put into production that directly emulates The Hangover in style and content. Universal has their hands on what’s potentially the first of these knock-offs: a spec script from Ellen Rapoport entitled Desperados. The film will be produced my Mark Gordon and Jason Blum, and is being called a starring vehicle for actress Isla Fisher.

The story for the film revolves around a woman who “sends an indignant e-mail to her new beau, who’s gone silent after they have sex. When she discovers he’s comatose in a Mexican hospital, she races south of the border with her friends in tow to intercept the e-mail before he recovers.”

So it’s essentially The Hangover again. With a female-oriented cast. And I’m sure it will sell like gangbusters.

Universal Pictures has acquired Desperados, a comedy script written by Ellen Rapoport that will potentially act as a starring vehicle for Isla Fisher.

Mark Gordon (2012) and Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity) are producing the project, which tells the story of a woman who sends an indignant e-mail to her new boyfriend, who's gone silent after they have sex, but then discovers that he's lying in a Mexican hospital in a coma, and so races south of the border with her friends to intercept the e-mail before he recovers. The project has been described as a female-oriented Hangover, but also seems to have familiar elements from Road Trip as well.

If Fisher takes on the role it will be the next in a line of projects the actress has completed with Universal. She last starred in Confessions Of A Shopaholic and is now developing and producing the comedy The Cookie Queen at the studio, »
