When it comes to the first photos and synopsis from upcoming films, Collider has reaped great rewards from this year’s American Film Market (Afm). For those who don’t know, Afm is where film buyers from around the world come once a year to buy movies and also pre-buy films in development. Simply put, this is where a lot of money changes hands in the film industry and it’s where many decisions about what you and I get to see are made. In an effort to try and raise a film’s profile or attract film buyers, many of the studios distribute full synopses and still images for their movies.
With that in mind, we have grabbed some of those synopses and images for Manolete (starring Adrien Brody and Penelope Cruz), Mona Lisa, Pearblossom, Small Town Saturday Night (starring Chris Pine), and The Long Good Friday. Hit the

The hits from this year’s American Film Market (Afm)* keep on coming. The yearly festival where buyers and sellers do business to bring us all the movies we’ll see in the (hopefully) near future offers plenty of photos and full synopses. You may not have the fat cash to purchase these movies but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy their first images and plot details. We’ve got the goods for Hellraiser, Earthbound (Starring Kate Hudson and Gael Garcia Bernal), Nowhere Boy, The Concert, The Tournament, and the animated films Escape from Planet Earth, Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs Evil. Check it all out (plus the digital version of the promo poster for Scream 4) after the jump. Please note that I have copied down all synopsis exactly as they were originally written.

Afm* fun continues with the first images and full synopses for All Good Things starring Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst, Pirhana 3D starring Elisabeth Shue and Richard Dreyfuss, Shanghai starring John Cusack and Ken Watanbe, and The Fighter starring Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, and Amy Adams. These are all films that should be on your radar because there’s a good chance that these films will be getting some major marketing when they hit theaters.
I write and read about films every day and with the exception of The Fighter, these films weren’t really on my radar. After reading the synopses and seeing some shots from these movies, I’ll definitely be on the lookout for further news about them. Hit the jump to check out debut photos and what you need to know about these upcoming flicks.

Can the media alter the public's perception of an actor? I believe so - that's why we have the likes of Megan Fox hugging the headlines and getting the covers of men's magazines, while a lot of more talented young actresses could not even manage to get featured and have interviews. If you think about it, what has she done in the movies to deserve so much publicity and attention?
- - -
- - -
Some may argue, 'hey, don't blame her, she's just good at playing the Hollywood game, and she got a shrewd agent managing her career!'. That maybe so and yes, I agree when others say 'she'll not last another year - others will soon take over'. There are those who may say 'Agents and talent managers always take care of their wards - that's why stars have a public image and a private one'.

Ever since Jeffrey Dean Morgan appeared in Watchmen, he hasn't stopped working. Dean Morgan has already finished the period drama Shanghai, is currently shooting The Losers (another comic book adaptation), and, he tells ComingSoon, will start work on yet another movie once The Losers wraps:
I'm jumping back in. I go to work on something about ten days after I've finished shooting [The Losers] ... It's a remake of a movie that I love ... Red Dawn I just love that f**king movie, ever since I was a kid.
Dean Morgan will trade the warm climates of The Losers' Puerto Rican location for Red Dawn's Detroit, where he will join Chris Hemsworth (the newly minted Thor), Josh Peck, Adrienne Palicki, and Josh Hutcherson to play a member of a militant group that fights off a communist invasion.
I guess I'm more or less the old Powers Booth character. There's all the

Labor Day weekend is coming up, and it's a holiday that marks the end of the summer movie season along with summer itself. All the kids are heading back to the classroom for another dreaded year of school and (for those in L.A. like myself) the weather starts to cool... hopefully. While fall usually isn't seen as a cinematic hotbed, with the blockbuster summer season over, there are still plenty of quality films to check out at the box office. This year we have Megan Fox's possessed body, a sensational animated film and a new zombie adventure. There's a lot more that I'm looking forward to this fall, so here is a comphrehensive look at what you can expect from this fall movie season.

Klaus Badelt is the new composer signed to score Swedish director Mikael Håfström’s upcoming romantic thriller Shanghai. Badelt, who is best known for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Poseidon, The Time Machine, is the third composer on this film. He is replacing UK composer Alex Heffes who, in his turn, had replaced Gabriel Yared, the composer who scored Håfström's 1408. Shanghai is a 1940s period piece starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, John Cusack, David Morse, Yun-Fat Chow and Li Gong. It tells the story about an American who travels to Shanghai four months before Pearl Harbor, discovers that his friend has been murdered and unveals a big secret that his own government is hiding. Film is slated to premiere later this year.

Zhang Yimou sets out to remake Coen Bros’ ‘Blood Simple’

Here’s an interesting piece of movie news. In fact, I had a similar yet slightly more positive reaction to this news than I did learning that Werner Herzog is remaking Bad Lieutenant. As it turns out, one of my favorite directors is remaking my favorite filmmaking brothers’ first film Blood Simple. The Coen Brothers transitioned from shorts to their first feature-length film with Blood Simple in 1984.
The original stars John Getz as Ray and a young Frances McDormand as Abby, a couple in love who are trying to escape the evil clutches of Abby’s wealthy but jealous husband Julian, played by Dan Hedaya. In an effort to quench his disturbed curiosity and know for sure if his wife is cheating, Julian hires an unscrupulous private investigator, played by M. Emmet Walsh.
Zhang Yimou, a much celebrated filmmaker in China, isn’t nearly as well-known in the States but

Mikael Håfström to direct 'The Rite'

Mikael Håfström is set to direct New Line Cinema's "The Rite," an upcoming fact-based thriller based on a nonfiction book by Matt Baglio.
According to Variety, the film follows a young man who joins the Vatican's newly formed Exorcism School, where he soon finds himself facing the devil.
Michael Petroni, whose credits include "Queen of the Damned" and the upcoming "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," wrote the script.
Håfström also directed "Derailed" (a film I absolutely hated) and "1408" (one I mildly enjoyed). He's currently wrapping up "Shanghai," starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, John Cusack, David Morse and Franka Potente.

1408 Director Takes on 'Last Rite'

Mikael Hafstrom - who I thought did a pretty solid job on 1408 for Dimension Films - is set to direct Last Rite, a fact-based thriller scripted by Michael Petroni. Based on a nonfiction book by Matt Baglio, the film tells the story of a young man who joins a seminary and is soon recruited into the Vatican's newly formed Exorcism School. There, he confronts the demonic and discovers his true faith by facing the devil. Exorcisms seem to be the new cool in Hollywood... someone call me when it's done right.
Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson will produce with Christy Fletcher.
The Swedish director's last film was the ghost story hit "1408." He most recently completed the Phoenix Pictures-produced drama "Shanghai," which the Weinstein Co. releases on Sept. 4.
