Renee Walker : [while in her office] the CIP firewall protects every major infrastructure system in this country. If it were breached, telecommunications, transportation, power grids: they would be vulnerable
Jack Bauer : I'm not active: the DOJ is about to file criminal charges against me, I'm not "exactly" in a position to "help you" with your "situation. As much as I understand how dire it is...
Renee Walker : [Interrupts him] no I don't think you do. One of the men behind this threat is someone you know
Jack Bauer : [Before he sits down, after she shows him an image of Tony] that's not possible: Tony Almeida is dead
Renee Walker : Apparently not
Jack Bauer : [Sternly] I was there when he "died"
Renee Walker : And he was rushed away by the EMT's a minute later and you never saw him after that and hours later, you were abducted by the Chinese government
Jack Bauer : No, if Tony was still alive, I would know, he would've contacted me
Renee Walker : We recovered this image from a security camera where one of the technology thefts took place: it's time stamped and dated
Jack Bauer : This image could be manipulated
Renee Walker : Not this one
Jack Bauer : I'm sorry, I don't believe it
Renee Walker : I had Almeida's exhumed. DNA tests "confirmed" that it was not his body that was buried, the evidence is right here, if you want to leave without looking at it: go ahead
-
Renee Walker : [while in her office] all we know for sure is that Almeida's is part a home grown terrorist group that's targeting our infrastructure
Jack Bauer : He could be working undercover: some kind of sting operation, you need to check every federal agency
Renee Walker : We have, state and city too, Almeida's not working for any of them
Jack Bauer : There must be some other explanation
Renee Walker : Yeah there is. His wife was brutally murdered by a faction operating inside the government led by President himself
Jack Bauer : Everybody involved in that is either in prison or has been killed
Renee Walker : The government gave Logan a "slap on the wrist." They cut him a deal: sentencing him to house arrest on a hundred acre ranch?
Jack Bauer : [Irritated] and you think Tony is looking for justice by attacking this country?
Renee Walker : Almeida's lost everything he and his blaming the government he spent his life serving. Now you know him better than me on how that feels, how far a man might go
Jack Bauer : Not that "far" and not tony Almeida. There's a logical explanation: it's just "something" you're not "seeing"
Renee Walker : Help me find Almeida and you can ask him yourself. You know how he thinks, you have the same training and you know the same people
Jack Bauer : I need complete access to all your source material: everything you've got on this
-
Renee Walker : [Talking privately] I'm going to take Bauer with me
Larry Moss : No, forget it, I'm not letting him put his hands on a suspect
Renee Walker : I won't him put his hands on anybody: my "guess" is if his in the room, Schector will talk
Larry Moss : You saw what he just did
Renee Walker : I am trying to find Almeida before it's too late, Schector is our best lead
Larry Moss : So you want to intimidate him with Bauer?
Renee Walker : Schector knows how far Bauer might go: let's use that
Larry Moss : Yeah, and if Schector doesn't blink, then what?
Renee Walker : I'll keep Bauer on a short leash
Larry Moss : We're the FBI, not CTU, we honor the law, even when it's not "convenient"
Renee Walker : The "situation" is heating up fast, the President's into it now, she's expecting "results"
Larry Moss : I know
Renee Walker : It's your call and I promise you, I can handle Bauer
Larry Moss : [after thinking it over] alright, I'm holding you responsible and I'm sending back up teams
-
Gabriel Schector : [after Jack and Renee enter his apartment] please, have a seat: this should be an interesting conversation. How long has it Jack? Years? How's the Senate "thing" going?
Gabriel Schector : [When Jack doesn't respond] I heard they dismantled CTU. Don't tell me, it was your fault wasn't it?
Renee Walker : Mr. Schector, we're not here to make "small talk." We have "business"
Gabriel Schector : Well, you have my undivided attention
Renee Walker : Where's Tony Almeida?
Gabriel Schector : Tony Almeida? In the ground I suppose: unless he was cremated? Didn't he die at CTU a while back?
Jack Bauer : [Referring to the FBI] their not after you, their willing to "accept" that you didn't know what Tony Almeida was going to do with the component that you helped him steal
Gabriel Schector : [Leans forward] whoa, whoa, whoa, I didn't know he stole anything and if he did, I knew nothing about it
Renee Walker : This is far more serious than you "know" Mr. Schector. If you help us find Almeida, I'll see to it that you're kept "in the clear." Otherwise, you could be a co-conspirator to multiple terrorist acts
Gabriel Schector : oh, well I think this conversation's over, I tried to answer your questions honestly but I think from now on, so you can speak to my lawyers so good bye Jack and good luck with the Senate, I hope it fries your ass
-
Renee Walker : Tell me about Schector?
Jack Bauer : He used to work for a defense contractor out of San Diego until he went on his own
Renee Walker : Legitimate?
Jack Bauer : Yeah, at first, then he got greedy: started using his "connections" to acquire technology, selling it on the "gray" market
Renee Walker : Who'd he sell it to? Terrorists?
Jack Bauer : No, usually foreign governments usually trying to get around treaties
Renee Walker : And how'd you and Tony get involved with him?
Jack Bauer : We arrested him and we "turned" him: he was a great conduit for intel
Renee Walker : CTU didn't mind you were letting this guy stay in "business?"
Jack Bauer : CTU didn't know, it was just Tony and me
Renee Walker : So, you and Tony were "tight?"
Jack Bauer : Yeah, we were close
Renee Walker : Alright, it sounds like Tony: whoever thinks his "dead", put together a plan to hijack American security, he contacted Schector to help him with his plan
Jack Bauer : Yeah
Renee Walker : Except you don't believe it? That Tony's dirty?
Jack Bauer : I believe that Tony's alive, I believe his doing something dangerous and we need to find him
-
Jack Bauer : [Pointing to Sean's computer screen] there he is: Gabriel Schector
Larry Moss : Who is he?
Jack Bauer : He was a supplier, Tony and I used him to buy things "off book"
Jack Bauer : [to Sean] see if his in your database
Sean Hillinger : Yeah his there
Jack Bauer : Is he still in Los Angeles?
Sean Hillinger : No, according to this ear mark, he came to DC nine weeks ago
Renee Walker : [to Larry] the thefts started a week after that
Jack Bauer : [to Larry] that's your guy
Sean Hillinger : His subletting an office downtown: 1208 Naylor Road, suite 630
Larry Moss : [to Renee] put a field team together, pick him up. I'll call judge Simons to have a warrant ready
Jack Bauer : That's a mistake
Larry Moss : Why?
Jack Bauer : You don't have time to go through the "motions" with Schector. You serve him with a warrant, he'll call his lawyer, and he'll stall as long as he needs
Larry Moss : [to Jack] so what's the alternative? Break in and torture him like you used to do? Is that how you ended up in front of a Senate subcommittee?
Larry Moss : [after Jack stands up] oh, is this how it starts? You get in my face, tighten your jaw, and if I say something you don't like, you slam me against a wall?
Jack Bauer : You have no idea on what I do: the last time I checked, you subpoenaed me. You want my help? You want my advice? Take it. You don't? Don't, I don't care
Renee Walker : [Walks up to them, to Jack] you said you used to work with this man Schector, how well does he know you?
Jack Bauer : [to Renee] he "knows" me
Renee Walker : [to Larry, implying she wants to talk to him in private] can I talk to you for a second?
