Not that bad episode as some reviews says. People that say, oh this is not mistery, lol. This was more mysterious than the episode with French family where it was obvs that father killed everyone and ran away. I see mistery here because we only can guess what happened. Maybe he died by crashing trash or maybe killed, who knows.

Jack what is you doing?
Calicodreamin25 October 2020
This was absolutely captivating, so many twists and turns and almost no answers. Such a strange case, the surveillance video was quite disturbing... what was he doing. A very well made episode in terms of interviews, archival footage, and timeline establishment.

Warning: Spoilers
4 out of 5 stars.

The other half of the season is back. This one being about a Washington official being mysteriously murdered. While has last couple of days has been a mystery with him having a bipolar episode. Being lost and confused. Kind of creepy.

This was riveting

I truly enjoyed this one, and there is truly a mystery here that I hope someone will step forward and try to solve. He sounds like such an accomplished man to just suddenly be found dead. There is much more to this story than what is know. I highly recommend this episode.

Ridiculous Premise Here!
collectorofsorts21 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A famous man dies in an odd manner and it MUST be murder. That's the premise. Then we go on to hear that the man has a lifetime history of mental health issues and was acting oddly the last few days of his life. It was pretty clear to anyone who followed the facts instead of the emotional family member stuff that it was just the accidental death of someone who had a break with reality. He called his employer and told them his home had been burglarized. But, he didn't call the cops or even mention the supposed burglary to his wife. He set off smoke bombs at a neighbors house that he was in dispute with. He was spotted acting crazy and walking around with one of his shoes off. And, finally, his body was found in a landfill and the truck that dumped him off was backtracked to the dumpster where he had been (most likely) sleeping because he had lost touch with reality. None of the injuries mean anything because those garbage trucks have huge hydraulic crushers/compactors in them and if he were dumped in there while he was asleep, he wouldn't have been able to get out and he would have been crushed to death. If this was anyone other than someone famous, it would have been classified as an accidental death.

Not the most engaging start.

Jack's death was of course a tragedy for all those that knew him, buy I feel the I'll fated chap's death was a very sad accident, as opposed to an unsolved mystery. Efforts were made to sensationalise his death, but once the facts were presented it did seem somewhat obvious that it was a tragic accident. I felt that the producers were reaching trying to make this into an unsolved mystery.

A sad end for poor Jack. 5/10.

Not A Mystery
Mehki_Girl23 October 2020
Like everyone else, I'm watching the footage and listening to people saying things that don't reflect what I'm seeing - A poor old disoriented guy having a psychotic break and if anyone was chasing him it was the demons of his mind.

Like someone else said, somehow he made it into the dumpster. Possibly hiding from imagery pursuers and ended up getting crushed. I don't he believe was mugged and if he had died in a mugging, the injuries would be different.

There was no break-in. He made that mess in the house, firebombed his neighbor, lost is phone and wallet and while having a mental breakdown, went wandering the streets and familiar places, babbling nonsense.

Is is this sad? Absolutely. Sad ending of an obviously very bright, accomplished man who served the public and for his family.

But let's not brush aside forensics and police procedure to make everything a mystery or conspiracy theory. Cops are pretty good at sussing real and staged burgleries. Not that he staged it. He simply had a "fight" with imagery offenders.

Not a good beginning when viewers are fiddling with their phones looking up, and, saying, nope, that's not a guy running from pursuers, that's a guy whose cheese is not firmly on his cracker, disoriented, and simply wandering the streets. Too bad the pharmacy didn't recognize his condition and call the cops.

Sad, but no mystery.

Not a very strong start
cloften-8762619 October 2020
Obviously not trying to downplay someone's disappearance or murder. This just wasn't a strong start. It would've been a decent middle episode I guess but it wasn't all that interesting. I do agree with another reviewer that it was made to be more mysterious/shady than what it truly might've been. I followed the story all the way through but it didn't fully capture my attention.

Boring, unnecessary drama for a pretty unremarkable case
liederman19 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I think it's pretty clear if you watch the episode that Jack probably had a bipolar episode, got lost and was perhaps killed by some mugger. I think it's very clear that he was not killed by someone with premeditated intentions. The whole episode makes it seem as if he's being chased or followed by some mysterious entity. It's so overly dramatic and just blatantly over the top that it comes across like a parody. What's a 75 year old man doing in a parking garage blocks away from his car with his shoe off? Is it because he's bipolar? No, it's because he was defending himself from an attacker. Stupid, conspiratorial filler.

Dumb
ampadbury23 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Dementia was not mentioned ONCE.

All these "expert" opinions and none of them could figure it out. Ask the Garbage Truck driver what he think happened. Demented guy got crushed by a trash truck. The crushing mechanism wasn't even mentioned even when being depicted on screen by the second unit director.

Not Unsolved and NOT a mystery.

very, very sad
ematerso3 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As a production I thought this was fine, however I disagree with the diagnosis of murder. This poor man was obviously suffering under some kind of mental breakdown. It is very sad that the pharmacist, or the parking garage attendants did not think to call the police. A man wearing one shoe, totally disoriented, wandering around, most likely crawling into the dumpster and either falling asleep or dying of natural causes and then getting dumped into land fill. Tragic ending to what had been a life of achievement.

Not mysterious.
bangorkiddo21 February 2022
He was prominent, respected, well educated, with government connections. His untimely death, therefore, must be a hit, according to family & law enforcement. A witness shared a cab, but the account was dismissed. It's more likely than not he was mentally distressed, climbed into a Dumpster for warmth or escape from imagined pursuers, and was crushed by the compactor. I see no "layers of mysteries" or possibility the reward wasn't claimed because the perpetrators had been paid off. It was a tragic end to a life well-lived in the service of his country.

Washington Insider Murder
bombersflyup22 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The body of a prominent man found in dumpster, beaten to death. Camera footage of him walking around and his life story. No witnesses, no reason as to why, not too engaging, though it is an unsolved mystery.

Attemp to make something that it's not
aolsen-477878 April 2024
Bless his heart, this is a bipolar incident gone bad. Unfortunately, I've seen it. I had to guide my own loved one to safety after a bipolar break. He was seeing things while in the parking garage. He slept there. Geesh. I find it hard to believe the family went along with all the hyped up drama. Maybe there was a med change, or maybe he forgot them. Blood tests could inform if he had not been taking them.

Wilmington was full of crime and murders back then (I lived there from 1996-2013). My guess is he came up on some regular bad folks during the lost days. I am sad more family members weren't looking for him in light of him having Bipolar Disorder.

Newark
appnzllr-14 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If only the "head detective" from Wilmington knew how to pronounce Newark. It was very annoying to hear him pronounce it incorrectly over and over and over again.

Also, if a living person is crushed in a garbage truck, I would think his injuries would be similar to being beaten up. Why was the autopsy result saying it was murder? I'd question the autopsy.
