You can’t keep Daryl Dixon down. After stealing the spotlight for eleven seasons on The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon finally takes the leading role in his very own spin-off series. AMC has released a new teaser trailer for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which begins to unravel the character’s journey to France.
Like a fish out of water, Daryl Dixon finds himself in an entirely new country filled with new faces and new walkers. The Daryl Dixon teaser singles out one walker in particular, who seems to be wearing a Hannibal Lector-esque mask with a tranquillizer dart to the neck for good measure.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has already been renewed for a second season, alongside The Walking Dead: Dead City. “This next chapter in the Walking Dead Universe continues to thrive with a terrific inaugural season for Dead City and highly anticipated new journey for fan-favorite...

Negan has defied the odds countless times throughout his time in The Walking Dead universe.
Things took a wild turn on The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 1 Episode 6 when we learned that The Dama had been calling the shots and wanted Jeffrey Dean Morgan's alter ego to help her run New York.
She had heard how Negan killed Glen, which forever changed Maggie and Hershel's lives.
In one of the most chilling scenes in franchise history, the Dama revealed she had stolen one of Hershel's limbs and could go back for more if Negan didn't help her cause.
"He's in a position that he didn't anticipate being in — certainly," Morgan said in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"I think he thinks he's f---ed."
Morgan believes Negan was surprised by how cutthroat the Dama was because he didn't know much of anything about her before their first meeting.

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: Dead City episode 6.
Dead City’s first season has wrapped, but the saga of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) won’t end here for fans of The Walking Dead. Indeed, AMC announced during San Diego Comic-Con 2023 that the show had been renewed for a second season.
Maggie and Negan have grown to resemble one another more over time, with Maggie’s slide into “any means necessary” violence countering Negan’s attempts at redemption in whatever form he can get it. This season saw all of their old animosities dragged back into the light but also showed what “a badass team” they can be when working together.
The final episode resolved surprisingly few of the plot elements established in the first episode and instead opted to set up future developments. When we leave Maggie and her son Hershel, their relationship...

My mom always taught me that the only thing that happens when you assume is that you make an “ass” out of “u” and “me.” Well sorry, mother, but I assumed AMC’s Maggie and Negan spinoff The Walking Dead: Dead City would be a one-season experience.
The Walking Dead franchise has been around for quite awhile now. First premiering in 2010, the flagship series ran for an impressive 11 seasons and gave way to Fear the Walking Dead (which will wrap up its eighth and final season later this year), The Walking Dead: World Beyond (which ran for two seasons), and many other spinoffs to come including The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and the Rick and Michonne story The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 1.] The first of the new era of Walking Dead spinoffs is over, and we have a lot to unpack after our trip to the walker-infested Big Apple. Good news though, AMC‘s Dead City just got picked up for a sophomore season, so the story will continue beyond the six episodes we’ve seen. In the video interview above, series stars Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan), Željko Ivanek (Negan’s old frenemy “the Croat”), and Gaius Charles (New Babylon Marshall Perlie Armstrong) discuss their character’s baddest moments — including that Maggie shocker and Perlie’s badass shoe kill. They also dove into what they’re hoping to see in Season 2. “I’m definitely looking to see where they go from ...

If The Walking Dead: Dead City was the kind of series that taught us lessons, the one we were to glean from the Season 1 finale had to be that no good deed goes unpunished. Despite Negan’s best efforts to reunite Maggie with her kidnapped son, the reformed baddie was backstabbed figuratively and frontstabbed literally by the heroine that he so brutally widowed. And the episode’s ending suggested that his punishment was only beginning.

After last week’s drama with Geordie clearing Will of reckless driving in a fatal motorcycle accident, the Grantchester writers knew we needed a laugh. Or, at the very least, a reason for Geordie to repeatedly roll his eyes before Will’s brooding continued. While “The Walking Dead” may have come to an end after 11 seasons, the zombie-apocalypse drama has spawned plenty of spin-offs set within the show’s ever-expanding universe, with more on the way.
On Friday, “The Walking Dead” hosted a session at this year’s Comic Con in San Diego, with producers and actors bowing out this year due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
AMC president of entertainment Dan McDermott, however, was on hand, with some big announcements, revealing that “The Walking Dead: Dead City” — which follows Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) — has been renewed for a second season.

The walking dead are about to trek even farther, as the first teasers for two spin-off series – The Ones Who Live and Daryl Dixon – have arrived, building on the ever-expanding universe of the franchise.

This The Walking Dead: Dead City review contains spoilers.
The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 5
Negan is a swaggering, leather-clad bad-ass who smashes zombies and people with equal ease, if his introduction was to believe. The Negan who was introduced in the season 6 episode of The Walking Dead, “The Last Day on Earth,” has slowly changed into something different. Not changed, as much as revealed; we’ve been allowed to see behind the mask that turned a humble gym teacher and devoted wife guy named Negan Smith into the character of Negan. Behind the leaning-at-angles shtick and the constant stream of quips, there’s a real man masking real emotions and insecurities. The Walking Dead: Dead City has provided more of a peek behind that curtain and given Jeffrey Dean Morgan more to play with that isn’t just surface-level cool.
Maggie is going through that journey in the opposite direction.

And we’ve got a strong feeling they’re not exactly the friendly type…

“The Walking Dead: Dead City” continues its run with Episode 4, “Everybody Wins a Prize.” Negan, Maggie and the band of survivors they’ve united with are on the attack. Seeking to reclaim Maggie’s son Hershel from the grasp of the evil Croat (Željko Ivanek), the group devises a plan that involves Negan distracting his former Savior while the rest of them swoop in to rescue Hershel. Housed in an abandoned Madison Square Garden, the Croat’s base of operation makes for a stellar “Walking Dead” villain lair.
Using his signature whistle to lure the Croat deep into the depths of his stadium, Negan engages in a cat-and-mouse sequence as the Croat hunts him down throughout the once lively building. The chase results in a stand-off on a catwalk, with the Croat boasting about the new “Sanctuary” he’s created in the wake of Negan forcing him out of the...

The third episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City answered a question that had been hanging over the series’ metaphorical head since it was first announced: What happens/happened to Negan’s wife Annie, who was pregnant with their child when the mothership ended its 11-season run?
Until Sunday, Negan had managed to avoid discussing his family. But, seeing Maggie’s distress over the possibility that son Hershel had already been killed by the Croat, the Saviors’ former leader opened up to her. He, Annie and baby Joshua had been holed up in a cabin outside of New Babylon, he explained.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 3
My initial comparison between The Walking Dead: Dead City and Escape from New York was, at first glance, only surface level. There are similarities, clearly, but I had no idea that The Croat (Zeljko Ivanek) was having gladiator fights in a non-union store-brand equivalent of the Octagon. Now it’s clear that Dead City is a riff on Escape from New York, and as far as things to pattern your show after, you could do worse than John Carpenter. He’s the master of genre flicks, after all; for all the emphasis on human drama and soap opera emotions, The Walking Dead universe is a survival horror universe at its very core, and touches like this show a willingness to embrace that.
Of course, you have to have something in between all the special effects and action sequences.

Negan and his bat don’t usually get much time for baseball, but they’ve helped AMC+ hit a home run. The streamer has announced that “The Walking Dead: Dead City” has become the No. 1 season premiere in the history of AMC+, beating out past seasons of the original “Walking Dead” series and newer shows like “Interview with the Vampire” and “Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches.”
AMC+ did not provide specific numbers for how many customers streamed the premiere of “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” but it did disclose that 2 million additional viewers watched it on the AMC cable channel. The series follows the popular Twd characters Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan) traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan. Inhabited by the dead and the living alike, The Big Apple has become an anarchic world of its own, filled with both beauty and terror.

The Walking Dead reached the end of its eleven season run last year, and now the first of its follow-up spin-offs, The Walking Dead: Dead City, is making its way out into the world through AMC and the AMC+ streaming service. As Dead City plays out, we’ve also been seeing previews for the next follow-up spin-off, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which will begin airing sometime this fall. Last week, a short teaser for the show was released, and now a full two minute clip from the show has arrived online. The clip can be seen at the bottom of this article, and it shows Daryl making his way across a land he had never been in before (and which we never expected to see him visit): France.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 2
Making New York City the setting for The Walking Dead: Dead City is nothing if not a bold move. It’s such a familiar environment for anyone who watches movies or television; you might have never been to the five boroughs, but New York is one of the most iconic pop culture locations in media history. As such, there’s a lot of baggage to be brought along for the ride, but Dead City‘s first real look into The Walking Dead‘s version of the Big Apple seems to take that into account.
There have already been rats and roaches aplenty, thanks to New York City’s signature giant piles of garbage bags. There are also construction scaffolds and tall buildings aplenty. But it’s out first meeting with Tommaso (Jonathan Higginbotham) and Amaia...

“The Walking Dead: Dead City” had the biggest premiere of any season of television on AMC+ since the service launched in 2020.
The previous record-holder was predecessor series “The Walking Dead.” The iconic zombie drama had its 11th and final season released in three stretches, with the final set of eight episodes achieving the biggest debut on Oct. 2, 2022.
These data points are reported by AMC based on one week of streaming data for each respective premiere.
“The Walking Dead: Dead City” also made waves on linear TV, where the first episode brought in 2 million viewers accounting for three days of measurement. That includes the AMC cable channel as well as a simulcast across Bbca, IFC and SundanceTV, as well as two encore screenings on AMC. Of those 2 million, 768,000 fell into the adults age 25-54 range, with 573,000 in the adults 18-49 range, per Live+3 data.

We’re about halfway done with 2023, and any cable drama premieres that come along in the second half of the year have a new viewership number to try to beat. The Hollywood Reporter shares the news that the Walking Dead spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City (check out our review Here) is now the biggest cable drama debut of the year, having drawn in 683,000 viewers as it aired on AMC last Sunday, with viewers of the simulcasts on BBC America and IFC, plus replays, boosting the number of viewers to 1.12 million. The Hollywood Reporter notes that “Dead City also became the top series premiere ever on the AMC+ streaming service, in both viewers and acquisition, surpassing Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches (though as usual with streaming platforms, detailed viewing figures aren’t made public).”

If you thought Negan was poorly handled in the last season of The Walking Dead, you’re in good company, as his portrayer, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, has come out to express disappointment over how the character was written, saying he would have much rather seen him “walk off into the sunset.”

The latest entry in the Walking Dead franchise at AMC got off to a promising start.
The Walking Dead: Dead City‘s June 18 premiere became the most watched drama series debut of 2023 on cable, based on same-day Nielsen ratings. AMC also says the show had a successful launch on its AMC+ streaming service.
The series, which follows long-time Walking Dead regulars Lauren Cohan (Maggie) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) to a zombified New York City, debuted with 683,000 viewers on AMC. Simulcasts on BBC America and IFC and a couple of replays pushed the first-night, on-air total to 1.12 million viewers. AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has crawled back out of its shallow grave following the series finale that aired back in November with “The Walking Dead: Dead City.” The first of many spin-offs on the horizon, “Dead City” follows Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they venture into a walker-infested New York City to rescue Maggie and Glenn’s son Hershel who has been kidnapped by a former-Savior.
Set a few years after the flagship series’ strong finale, Maggie and Negan have gone their separate ways since their intensive conversation in the final episode. Maggie continues to float between Hilltop and other adjacent communities. Negan has taken a nomad approach to life, getting into all sorts of trouble around the post-apocalyptic wasteland. After a no-good group of baddies begins demanding resources monthly from one of Maggie’s communities, they take young Hershel as a collateral hostage. Meanwhile,...

The Walking Dead reached the end of its eleven season run last year, but now we’re in the age of the follow-up spin-offs. The first of those is The Walking Dead: Dead City, which centers on the characters of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and just made its premiere this past Sunday. (You can read our review Here.) Next up is The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which will follow Norman Reedus’s character. A quick teaser for Daryl Dixon was shown during the Dead City premiere, and you can check that out in the Twitter embed at the bottom of this article.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has the following synopsis: Daryl (Reedus) washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home.

It was a big night for The Walking Dead fans on Sunday (June 18), as not only did AMC air the premiere of the Maggie and Negan spin-off Dead City and the midseason finale of Fear of the Walking Dead, but they gave viewers their first glimpse of the upcoming Daryl Dixon series. In the 20-second trailer for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (below), we pan up from under the water to reveal a seemingly unconscious Daryl (Norman Reedus) laid out on top of an overturned lifeboat drifting across the ocean. The clip also confirms that the series will premiere this fall. According to the show’s official synopsis, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will follow Daryl as he washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home.

As the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead reached the halfway point Sunday, viewers were treated (if that’s the word) to callbacks galore, to past characters and mantras and even Madison’s old jacket. And if you forgot anything capital-m Meaningful that anyone had ever said, not to worry — this episode was hell-bent on repeating the series’ “greatest hits.” (At this point, only The Bold and the Beautiful repeats more dialogue!)
Plotwise, much of “All I See Is Red” concerned Morgan’s return to the dangerous state in which Rick found him back in Season 3 of the mothership.

There would be no playing of Peaches & Herb’s “Reunited” in Sunday’s premiere of AMC’s third Walking Dead spinoff, Dead City, ’cause good was most definitely not how being together again felt to either Negan or Maggie. In fact, Glenn’s widow only sought out his killer anew to help her save kidnapped son from a baddie called The Croat (Željko Ivanek). Why was Negan her best chance of rescuing her dad’s namesake? Maybe it comes from being a New Yorker for 20-plus years, but I was much more creeped out by the undying rats and roaches littering the streets of an abandoned Manhattan than the ever-present zombies who populate The Walking Dead: Dead City, a been-there, screamed-at-that spinoff of the horror franchise that has seen better days. It’s obviously scary any time characters descend into infested subway or sewer tunnels, and transforming an iconic arena into a staging ground for post-apocalyptic mayhem is an inspired touch. (If you haven’t seen Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.) What Dead City lacks is a compelling human element. Even though I suppose I’d follow the ferocious warrior Maggie (Lauren Cohan) anywhere, her conflict with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the reformed — or is he? — villain who slaughtered her beloved husband Glenn back in the day, has grown awfully tired. And yet that reprise is at...

As I continue to decompress after the recent onslaught of finales, it remains perplexing how quiet last fall’s conclusion to The Walking Dead was. Sure, the show was no longer a critical favorite or an audience juggernaut, but The Walking Dead spent years as one of the most discussed shows on all of television, only to lurch haltingly into the sunset.
Or maybe there was an instinct to devalue the ostensible series finale of The Walking Dead because AMC had already announced a bevy of upcoming spinoffs. What was the point in getting worked up about missing our favorite remaining grungy survivalists and the zombies who loved to eat them when we knew nobody was going to be gone for long?
