Amy Adams' flying fear

18 hours ago | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Amy Adams is terrified of flying. The 'Night at the Museum 2' actress - who plays aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart in the new movie - is so scared of planes she will only board one if she can sit by someone she knows. She explained: "I've had some embarrassing episodes at airports. Certain American airlines don't assign seats and there have been times when I couldn't sit next to my fiance. I've had a few meltdowns trying to get someone to change seats with me." Despite enjoying playing Amelia, the 34-year-old actress - who is currently expecting her first child with fiancé Darren Le Gallo - admits she is very different to her character. She explained: "I like her because »

29 December 2009 1:41 PM, PST | Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news »

While The Twilight Saga: New Moon was a fantastic portrayal of Stephenie Meyer's story, it was not free of the various continuity errors that seem to find themselves into films on a regular basis. According to Movie Mistakes' calculations, there were twenty-nine errors in New Moon (the same amount found in Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian). Some of the errors in ... behind Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen and Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince (with seventy-one mistakes apiece). HitFix's 10 Worst Movies of 2009

Overall, the last twelve months have featured some very good movies, but boy you couldn't ignore the fact there were some major stinkers along the way. Of course, coming up with a list would be subjective for any critic, but the staff at HitFix had no problem determining 10 prime candidates. And here's a hint, for various reasons the list doesn't include "Gamer," "All About Steve," "Miss March," "Crank: High Voltage," "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," "Post Grad," "Halloween 2" "Pandorum," "Did You Hear About The Morgans?" or "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell" (although from all »

Boos! & Whoop-doos!: 12 Months of Toilet Plunkers and Dumpster Diamonds!

The End of 2009? Whoop-doo! This year has been one hellatious shit storm from the get-go. Pregnant ladies and babies, The Great Depression Part II, pig flu, more than a handful of horrible shootings, a balloon boy, Tiger's indiscretions, and our first black president. Not to mention more dead celebrities than I can shake a stick at. Every time I turned around, some other atrocious calamity was happening right before my eyes. Making 2009 one of the most interesting years of this entire decade. According to Michael Ruppert in his film Collapse its only going to get worse before it gets better. Yes, the Teens are going to see more than half of your friends and family dead. Take account of the folks around you. By the time 2020 rears its ugly head, most of these people will be gone. The year’s top box office attractions were Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and with hits like Harry Potter and The Hangover, Warner Bros. was the North American box office champ among studios.  And with both Robert Downey Jr.’s take on Sherlock Holmes and the return of those rascally rodents in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel coming in time for Christmas, the final take is expected to top $10.4 billion.

What Might -- and Might Not -- Win the Visual Effects Oscar

14 December 2009 3:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

When it comes to the Academy Award for best visual effects, you might think there are too many possible contenders to put on one ballot. And you'd be right. That's why the Academy Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee has narrowed it down to a list of 15 semifinalists, from which the nominees and eventual winner will be chosen. Here's what's in the running now:

Angels & Demons, Avatar, Coraline, A Christmas Carol, District 9, G-Force, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, 2012, Watchmen, and Where the Wild Things Are.

In a couple weeks, the committee will narrow the list down even further, to seven entries, and then 15-minute excerpts of those seven films will be shown to all the members of the Academy's Visual Effects Branch. The branch will then vote to determine the three actual nominees. »

Blu-Ray Review: Overly Manic ‘Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian’

14 December 2009 1:41 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The CGI smorgasbord that is “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” is likely to suffice as a babysitter this holiday season as eggnog is made or holiday shopping is concluded. Families are likely to be satisfied by the everything-and-the-kitchen-sink mania that will work for toddlers hopped up on Christmas candy, but the film itself will collapse for their parents, babysitters, and even their older siblings.

Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0

A slight improvement over the original (a film I truly didn’t like) merely due to the inclusion of Amy Adams and the absence of that film’s overcooked father/son story, “Battle of the Smithsonian” follows the “turn up the volume” model of sequels. “What worked about the original? Let’s make it bigger! And louder!”

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian was released on Blu-Ray and DVD on December 1st, 2009.
