Fassbender, McGregor, Douglas & Quaid Ready For A Knockout

3 hours ago | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Director Steven Soderbergh likes to straddle the fence between art and commerce. For every Ocean’s Eleven style film that the he makes, he likes to shoot at least one film that isn’t a shoe-in for a huge opening weekend.

When news came up last year that the Traffic director was going to direct an action film starring real-life mixed-martial artist Gina Carano called Knockout I didn’t really know what to expect. However, now the director has Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas and Dennis Quaid in negotiations to star in the film, it looks like this one is on the side of commerce. Although, having said that, these stars do like their Oscar bait.

Heat Vision Blog reports that the actors are circling the film for co-starring roles, and I’d assume that they’ll all sign on the dotted line by the time the film starts shooting next month. »

Rock band Mastodon for Jonah Hex soundtrack

6 hours ago | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

It’s been a busy week for movie soundtracks. Just in the past few days, we’ve had talk about Pharrell Williams (N.E.R.D.) working on Despicable Me, Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy) and Mark Hoppus (Blink 182) collaborating together for Alice in Wonderland (a soundtrack that also looks set to feature Avril Lavigne and All Time Low) and Muse revealed they were approached for Clash of the Titans. And now joining the party is American rock band, Mastodon who has confirmed they’re writing the score for upcoming western, Jonah Hex. A western, you query. Yes, a western, albeit one with supernatural armies, an intentionally tongue-in-cheek tone and Megan Fox as a kick-ass prostitute. Look the other way Clint, this probably ain’t gonna be your cup of tea. »

Michael Douglas, McGregor, Quaid, Fassbender Join Soderbergh's Knockout

9 hours ago | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

A few days ago, Rhys Muldoon talked about Steven Soderbergh's secret improv movie, filmed in Australia with the cast of Soderbergh's play, Tot Mom.

Now, The Playlist writes that another of Soderbergh's forthcoming projects just signed a slew of all-star cast members. Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, and Dennis Quaid have all agreed to star in Knockout. The movie, described as a "revenge action-spy thriller," centers around mixed martial arts champion Gina Carano, whose only previous movie-acting credit was Blood and Bone with Michael Jai White.

All four actors will portray members of Carano's special unit. Carano herself is an agent who is betrayed by someone close to her. The rat will most likely be played by either Fassbender or another high-profile male actor, who was not named because his participation is yet to be confirmed. Douglas will play a governement agent, while McGregor will play the owner of a private military group. »

Michael Fassbender Talks Sodbergh's Knockout, Plus More Casting News

7 January 2010 12:19 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

This afternoon I got the much-awaited chance to talk to Michael Fassbender, the actor you either know as the emaciated Bobby Sands in Hunger, the "If this is it, old chap, I hope you don't mind if I go out speaking the King's" Archie Hicox of Inglourious Basterds, or the paternal/creepy Connor in Andrea Arnold's upcoming Fish Tank. This guy is going places, and during our short interview I felt compelled to ask him about the gazillion projects he has coming up, from The Talking Cure with David Cronenberg to Jonah Hex. But he surprised me by talking about something entirely different that starts filming in February-- Steven Soderbergh's Knockout, a movie Fassbender describes as "a sort of thriller-type, action film" that's about "a CIA operative" played by cage fighter Gina Carano. Fassbender said he's in about four scenes, amounting to 12 or 13 days work, and had this »

Green Lantern sees the (Green) Light

7 January 2010 12:00 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Never in any serious doubt Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern adaptation, starring Mr. Scarlett Johnasson – Ryan Reynolds, was given the green light today, throwing yet another comic book movie into the ring.

This will be Warners and DC’s follow up to the Josh Brolin fronted Jonah Hex, due out sometime this year.

SuperheroHype broke the news today, reporting a post on visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas’s blog which is neatly succinct:

Wow! Been a long time since I posted! But today is a day worth posting about!

Green Lantern got the official green light today! And not a second too soon – only 10 weeks out from shooting!

While it’s great news we are a go – now we have to actually get our prep done in 10 weeks!

Campbell’s edgy, dark thriller Edge of Darkness, starring Mel Gibson, is out soon and this should prove a suitable tangent to »

7 January 2010 11:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Welcome to the first edition of The Pull List Comic Reviews for 2010! This week both Blackest Night and Siege took center stage with numerous titles, but don’t worry as the Caped Crusader and the Wall Crawler make appearances, too. As always, Warning: Spoilers Ahead.

Pull Of The Week:

Blackest Night #6 [of 8]

DC Comics – $3.99 Us

Writer: Geoff Johns

Artist: Ivan Reis

Score: 9/10

When we last saw our heroes, well… let’s just say that some of them were no longer heroes. As black rings zoomed towards the Flash and Green Lantern, their friends and allies who had suddenly switched sides surrounded them. Superman. Wonder Woman. Green Arrow. And so on. With the universe slipping precariously into a never-ending pool of black, a new group of Lanterns have risen to the cause, and you won’t believe your eyes when you see who they are.

I’m starting to think that Geoff Johns »

Mastodon Score Music for Megan Fox-Starring 'Jonah Hex'

7 January 2010 12:34 AM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Rockers Mastodon are hitting Hollywood - the band has signed on to write the score for new comic book movie "Jonah Hex". Josh Brolin and Megan Fox are already lined up to star in the movie adaptation of the DC comic, which is due for release in June 2010.

And it will be accompanied by the heavy rockers' trademark sound. Bassist Troy Sanders reveals, "Director Jimmy Hayward played scenes for us and gave us all day long to create music that matched the emotion of the scene. It was flattering to be given 100 per cent creative control in this movie. It was very pure, it was real (sic) creative and totally spur of the moment."

Sanders also has an answer for critics who accuse the band of selling out: "(The budget) covered our studio fees, but it was a break even deal. (John Malkovich) Malkovich, (Josh) Brolin and Megan Fox all »

British Rock Band Muse Almost Scored Clash of the Titans?

6 January 2010 8:22 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

As of late, an interesting trend in movies has been bringing in a hip band to write the score that will set the tone for the entire film. Arcade Fire came on board to provide music for Richard Kelly's film The Box and the band Mastodon has been set to score the upcoming Jonah Hex. Recently, it looks like another band had the opportunity to showcase their composition talents on the big screen as ClashMusic says that British rock band Muse was offered the chance to score the upcoming Clash of the Titans remake, however, going by their odd quotes and the timing of this story, it's unclear if this is something that actually happened or not. Muse's lead singer and frontman Matt Bellamy talked with the British tabloid Daily Star about Clash of the Titans, but he doesn't come right out and say they're doing/have done the »
