Learn more- It Was You is one of three music videos from Lindsey Buckingham's 4th solo album, Under the Skin, released in 2006.
This video is a celebration of Lindsey's new life as a family man. The core of the video is Lindsey singing and playing the guitar, interspersed with video of him with his wife Kristen and their three young children, William, LeeLee and Stella.
It begins with a montage of close-ups of objects with interesting textures, then switching to the setting sun, flashing as if to show the passage of time. The scene changes to Lindsey's house, not the party house that he used to own, but a family home that he and his wife built for their family. Inside the house, you can see Lindsey's bare feet as he walks on the carpeted floors of the house.
Lindsey is seen in three-quarter profile, sitting in his studio, playing the guitar and singing, dressed casually in jeans and a white V-neck T shirt. Other scenes show him walking around his studio, fiddling with the equipment and peering into the camera.
As Lindsey sings the chorus of the song, we see him and Kristen walking and running down the hallways of the house, and also making faces for the camera. Each version of the chorus introduces one of their children (William's here! Etc.). In this first version of the chorus, William, who is about 6 years old and who looks a lot like Lindsey, is seen playing outside with a friend.
During the next verse, Lindsey is seen singing and playing guitar again, mixed with scenes of him again walking barefoot through the house as well as the kids playing outside in the courtyard. When the chorus is sung for the second time, their daughter LeeLee, who is about 4 or 5 years old, and who looks like Kristen, is shown playing in the house.
More images of the setting sun, as well as scenes of Lindsey roaming around his studio, are followed in the third chorus with Stella, Lindsey's youngest daughter, who is a little over a year.
The video ends with Lindsey singing the last chorus of the song while playing the guitar. As the song ends, you see him give a small smile.
