- Ricky has his friends Derek, J.T. and Freddy for a sleepover, but the boys play a cruel prank on Freddy - and Ricky makes it worse with a selfish remark. He feels guilty about his behavior, while Kate over-identifies with the taunting.
- In Ricky's room, Ricky, Derek, J.T., Freddy, and Edward are watching a horror movie about giant frog people, but Freddy, afraid of the movie, covers his eyes as the movie ends. Edward gets ready to leave, and tries to hug his son, but Ricky dissuades him, saying the other guys are around. Ricky and his dad shake hands and Edward does the same to the others, but Derek gives him a hug instead. Edward tells the boys to go straight to sleep before exiting.
When Freddy goes to brush his teeth, J.T. and Derek pull out a bag of frogs to hide in Freddy's sleeping bag as a prank. Though Ricky says he thinks the prank is cruel, he goes along with the others. J.T. also sets up Freddy's tape recorder so they have audio evidence of the prank.
Freddy comes out, finding the others in their sleeping bags. He offers to turn off the lights, but Ricky tells him to leave the lights on. Freddy climbs into his sleeping bag as the other boys giggle quietly. He finds the frogs in his sleeping bag, panics as the others break out laughing, and retreats to the bathroom. Hearing the commotion, Edward knocks on the door as Ricky hurriedly dumps Freddy's sleeping bag - with the frogs inside - down the laundry chute. Edward enters and reminds the boys that they should be sleeping before going back to his bedroom.
With Freddy still in the bathroom, Ricky tries to stand up for him, only to get a ribbing from J.T. and Derek. Ricky says Freddy is his friend, but when Derek badgers him he finally says he isn't. J.T. and Derek go to sleep while Ricky checks on Freddy, who refuses to come out.
The next morning, Ricky is unable to locate the frogs. J.T. and Derek pack their bags as Freddy continues to hole up in the bathroom, only coming out to grab the tape recorder. Freddy locks himself back in while Derek and J.T. go downstairs to get breakfast. Ricky tries to get Freddy to come out, but then hears him play the tape, which not only recorded Freddy's reaction the previous night, but also Derek and Ricky's conversation. When Freddy finally comes out, he is visibly hurt over the recording.
Meanwhile, Kate discovers one of the frogs in the living room and captures it with an inverted wastebasket, sitting on it to prevent it from moving. Edward shows Kate a frog that he found, and Kate tells him about the other frog. As they stash both frogs under the wastebasket, Freddy runs downstairs, followed by Ricky. Freddy leaves the mansion before Ricky can stop him.
Edward asks what's the matter with Freddy. Ricky asks Kate why she's sitting on the wastebasket. Edward and Kate tell Ricky about the frogs, and Ricky admits that Freddy left because J.T. and Derek pulled a prank on him with the frogs the previous night. He adds that Freddy is an easy target because the guys consider him a nerd. Kate relates a story about how she, like Freddy, was once picked on during a sleepover, though she tries to hide it as a generic story, not one from personal experience.
Edward asks his son if he joins in when the others make fun of Freddy. Ricky admits he does, but only because he doesn't want to be associated as a nerd, and Kate says that's no excuse - he should stand up for Freddy. Edward says he wants to let Ricky decide for himself what to do, and he and Kate get into a heated discussion over which course of action is better.
Just then, the doorbell rings. Ricky excuses himself to answer the door. Freddy enters, coolly saying that he forgot his shoe, and heads upstairs without saying another word. Meanwhile, Edward and Kate's argument ends when she finally agrees with him letting Ricky make his own decision.
Following Freddy upstairs, Ricky tries to talk to him again, but Freddy brushes him off, saying he should talk to J.T. and Derek instead since they're his friends. Ricky admits that the prank was low and apologizes to him. Freddy willingly accepts Ricky's apology, but when he asks if he can put it on tape, Ricky tells him not to push his luck.
Ricky tries to get Freddy to stop agreeing with everything someone tells him, but it momentarily backfires when he tries to tell Freddy that he likes him. Freddy asks Ricky if he's only saying that out of guilt. Ricky says no, Freddy has many good qualities. Freddy asks him to name them. Stammering, Ricky tries to come up with some, then mentions Freddy's loyalty to his friends - something Ricky admits he needs to work on himself. Ricky suggests that Freddy stand up for himself, and adds a line that Freddy can use on Derek and J.T. the next time they pick on him.
Just then, J.T. and Derek enter and needle Freddy. Freddy tries to use the line that Ricky gave him, but flubs it, causing them to laugh even harder. Exasperated, Freddy finally speaks up for himself, with Ricky's prodding. Ricky backs up Freddy, and J.T. sides with them against Derek. Derek says that they've been making fun of Freddy for years, saying his only talent is being a wimp. Freddy says he has more talents than just being a wimp, and to prove it does a tap-dance routine that impresses the others.
