An Eye'gasm
slak96u5 August 2022
The first episode was like receiving plot through a fire hose, it was a bit overwhelming. Thankfully the pace slows down a bit in this installment and is considerably more coherent. This episode was great, I enjoyed it thoroughly, I'm impressed with how the adaption is so true to the source material.

Also... Honestly, I'm not sure there has ever been a more visually brilliant television series, it truly is incredible looking.

I don't see any drop in quality
raj-bhullar6 August 2022
I read a lot of stupid comments in the main reviews saying that the quality drops from episode 2. Well having watched episode two I can say that is so not true. Why are some people review bombing this show? Are they bots from rival streaming companies? This episode is just as good as the first one. It's interesting, intriguing and as well as fascinating. Plot still keeps you hooked and storytelling is done at a good pace. It's visually striking, I remember when tv series did not look that great. But now they do so how can you hate this show? I don't get it. Some people are hard to please. I'm glad I'm not like them.

Gregory 😭

Warning: Spoilers
I was very excited to see Cain and Abel. I actually never read the Sandman comic but I used to read a lot of the different varients of "House of Mystery" and "House of Secrets". And I always loved their dynamic.

They're a mix of an old school comedy duo and the supernatural. But what really got me was the scene with Gregory. They did a great job at quickly making him like a lovable dog and Cain and Abel's relationship to him.

Great continuation

Not as engaging as the first episode, but damn I cried when Gregory died. Morpheus and Lucien is my favorite duo. I love those two interacting. The scene with Dream traveling though the dreams of alther and collecting offerings was very well executed. And Oh, little Goldie has my heart wrapped around it's finger. So cute!!!!

10/10.

Worth the watch!

I was familiar with the comics but this show has me obsessed! The actors delivered! The writers delivered. Haters will hate. But watch with an open mind and I think you'll be impressed and in love.

Keeping a steady ship
ha77y73ad9725 August 2022
This really is part 2 of a whole story, ep 1 and 2 combine into a cohesive story that culminates in the quest for the items that Dream wants returning. I cannot believe that Asim Chaudary and Sanjeev Bhaskar were on board to play Caine and Abel. These were prefect castings for the roles and with the way that the stories go in the future of the comics/series these 2 are going to be prefect for the roles.

The 3 in 1 was perfectly done as well to jump over each other whilst talking to Dream just set the tone for the answers that they provided as well.

Roll on JOHN Constantine for the next episode.

I laughed and cried
milliemacdonald417 August 2022
I'm avoiding spoilers, so I'll just say this: shows so rarely elicit real emotion in me, and yet this episode made me legitimately laugh and cry. Certainly, there were things that could have maybe been done better. But the emotional impact of this episode was very much there.

It was also really neat, as a fan of John Constantine-related shows (though I'm yet to read any comics), to see the Houses in a show, and Cain and Abel. I'm sure the links there might go over the heads of many people who aren't familiar with DC, or at least this part of the DC universe, but I loved it.

The Search Begins...
robotintroverted7 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was very interesting, it was mostly focused on worldbuilding more than anything else. And gave us some wonderful character development for Dream and our main villain. We also see the brothers, and they were quite a fun presence on screen! Like I said, this episode was mostly character focused, but I still loved it nonetheless. The CGI was incredible, except for the dragon CGI, that one is really weird. And looks like something out of the CW. Seeing Dream trying to find his tools, and trying to get used to himself being back again was interesting to see, since it helps the writers smartly reintroduce the characters that Dream knew before him being locked up for over a century! Overall, a great continuation for the second episode of the series, and I can't wait to see more for episode 3. This might just be one of the best shows on Netflix!

[8.4] G as gargoyle
cjonesas23 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 2: Very interesting and touchy as the second episode with countless deep fantasy messages, gorgeous cinematography, CGI and visual effects for the pleasure of eye candy lovers.

Deep storyline and plots adaptation doing justice to the comics, a somewhat unrealistic and weak flow at the same time while the vibe is shinier, all the while telling the story in a mishmash way. The weakest link of the episodes so far is its convoluted, sort of slow burn storytelling, having all the bright ingredients, but falling to coherently grab viewers interest.

Gregory was one of the stars of the episode complemented with terrific visual effects having some of us shed frozen tears.

Hope the baby gargoyle would have more lovely screen time.

Tools
Calicodreamin8 August 2022
Definitely a few tools in this episode. Story seems to be a hodgepodge of religion and myths, which makes it interesting to try and interpret. Good acting and high production value.

Cain and Abel all over again
moviesfilmsreviewsinc30 November 2022
Episode 2 of The Sandman begins with Dream walking through the remnants of his old castle. Lucienne admits that after he left, the library withered and disappeared. The royal librarian was confident Dream would return but there's a certain poetic irony to a librarian staying loyal to a library with no books. Dream is not at full strength, and without his belongings - the helm, the ruby etc. - that may not be possible in the foreseeable future. So there's nothing to it but to find Ethel and track down his belongings. The second episode of The Sandman slows things down a little as we tackle parts of The Sandman's main mission, with Dream heading off and picking up his items again, which are scattered across the realm. In order to do that, Dream first visits Cain and Abel, wanting to take back a gift he gave them a long time ago. And that happens to be their gargoyle, Gregory. Dropping to his knees and outstretching his hand, Dream absorbs the creature and that paves way for us to tumble through a trippy series of dreams to summon the Fates. Or, The Three as they're more commonly known as; this trio of goddesses consists of the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. Through them, Dream learns that his belongings are scattered across various different areas. His helm was traded to a demon. The ruby happens to pass from mother to son (this is, of course, hinting toward Johnny and Ethel.) Finally, the sand belongs to Johanna Constantine. With some clues to go on, Dream prepares to track down his things. Dream sets his sights on Johanna Constantine first, deciding to head off to London and get his sand back. In his absence, Corinthian makes a brief appearance, warning Lucienne that Dream doesn't care about her and soon or later, he'll make that clear. So far this adaptation has been pretty accurately adapted and the fantastical imagery, with the visuals of the dreams and nightmares in particular, working well to really show off the great visual effects in this one.

Whether The Sandman will continue to remain faithful to Neil Gaiman's graphic novels remains to be seen, but given the man has actually been advising a lot of the story and narrative beats on this show, it certainly poses well for the future.

Still not hitting the mark and this is even boring
namob-436735 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is still very good but the show so far lack a bit of oumpff. It lack the perfect creepiness of the comic. It lacks that cherry on top. This is good enough, it is fine, even great. A lot of this is even excellent. But I also do not see much special about it.

In this episode we can also point at Vivienne Acheampong who is a horrible actress. The Cain and Abel thing did not sit right. And the episode was so short, weirdly short. I hope that is not the norm of the episodes.. The computer graphics are also much worse in this episode compared to the first one. Another thing I reacted to was the music and sound design, something about it kept nagging me and not sitting right. I cannot really put my finger on it, but it feels... cheap... sort of. A final thing that bugs me is that instead of meeting John Constantine and chasing the gem through Justice league we get a watered down Johanna Constantine that Dream will go after.. what a letdown...

But worst with this episode is how boring it is. Nothing happens, even the meeting with the faiths was like meh. I know this is sort of a setup and we are given some exposition which is important going forward, but you can still have some pace or some events which spice things up a bit. Why not follow the comic?

This episode is a Dream
atelyanmoita3 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Literally. A glimpse at the dream realm. And it is brilliant. Funny at times, touching and heartfelt and deep at others.

You can get a bit more in depth into Dream's personality which you got to know in a uh, special context in the first episode.

You see him being ruthless yet not unkind. Not explaining his actions but having reason for everything he does.

Some scenes were abso-lutely beautiful.

Beautiful cinematography, great acting from Tom Sturridge and Vivienne Acheampong.

I love, love how the dream realm bleeds and for the viewer, blends seamlessly with the human world. Another forty or was it fifty? Minutes gone by in the blink of an eye.

Good
jonah-jf9 August 2022
Not great, but a lot of potential. CGI isn't good, but they don't have the money, so it's ok. Also not every actor is great. But the feeling the episodes transmit and the story of the comics is great, so I'm happy they made the show and I also like it. (I hope 24/7 wil be great.)

The depictions of Cain, Abel, The Old Witch, and House of Mystery looked like low effort Halloween costumes
Swampthing11 August 2022
While this episode of Sandman was exceptional, I couldn't help finding myself continually distracted by the minimal level of effort spent re-creating Cain, Abel, and The Old Witch. I grew up reading EC comics and later DC's House of Secrets and House of Mystery and they were some of my favorite characters. Most of the personalities were right, but again, the simple appearance was too terrible for me. I guess I could settle for the mediocre effort on Gregory the Gargoyle.
