The only good review is from the director. I know its him because I checked his other movies and the same user was the only person who left a good review on those as well. it seems to happen a lot with terrible movies like this. So pathetic.

I won't go into how bad this was, as all the other reviews cover it. I will say that you never do understand what is going on with this house. On Amazon the movie is called house of shadows, but at the end credits they call it something like "the house that time forgot." I guess everyone involved in those production forgot what they were doing because nothing was cohesive. It definitely leaves you wondering what it was you actually just watched.
And can someone fix the volume please?! The music overpowers the actors speaking the entire time. The male especially mumbled all his lines. But instead of straining to hear him, I just tuned him out completely as he added nothing to story, whatever it was.

Boring lame b movie
edlc197012 October 2020
Why and who is making these boring lame b movies through the entire 2020?
But this piece of crap, is by far one of the worst and most boring b movies ever. It doesnt even have anything, thats appealing to it. Its crappy acting, by which a kindergarten child could do it a lot better. Theres nothing scary or creepy in this crappy movie. Its just one long boring, bad acting b movie crap. I had to stop watching after 20 min. Total waste of time. The 1.3 score this movies has by now, is way way to much. It should be zero or below. Avoid, unless you have some time to waste you will never get back.

Incoherent Male Lead
heratyplant4 November 2020
First couple of minutes are OK, then it rapidly descends into the usual low budget, unwatchable drivel, directed by a leaden handed teenager, who's just emerged, too soon, from film school. Any hope of trying to watch was further dashed by a completely incoherent male lead, the 'boyfriend', I jumped forward & forward again to see if I was imagining this, but every time he spoke, it was nearly impossible to understand what he was saying - and I'm English! The desire for naturalistic actors, is very prevalent today, no Shakespearean tones here please, but if you can't actually hear 90% of what someone is saying, there's no point in watching, so I didn't.

House of boredom...

I was given the chance to sit down and watch the 2020 movie "House of Shadows". And the fact that I hadn't already seen it and with it being a horror movie then of course I managed to find the time to sit down and watch this movie from writer and director Nicholas Winter.
Granted, I hadn't even heard about "House of Shadows" prior to sitting down to watch it. So I didn't even know what the movie was about. I just knew it to be a horror movie, which was essentially all needed to have my interest caught.
Well, turns out that "House of Shadows" wasn't an entertaining or enjoyable movie. It was just horribly bland and incredibly boring, to be bluntly honest. The storyline was just dreadfully slow and it didn't help one bit that nothing of any interest took place throughout the course of the prolonged story.
And the characters in the movie weren't really overly interesting either. The acting performances were adequate, though. However, with such a small cast ensemble in a movie, then there is a lot more pressure on the actors and actresses to put on memorable and outstanding performances to carry the movie. Well, that just wasn't a thing that happened in "House of Shadows".
For a horror movie, then "House of Shadows" was frightfully devoid of anything scary, much less anything intersting.
My rating of "House of Shadows" is a more than generous two out of ten stars, based mostly on the production value of the movie. This movie was a swing and a miss from writer and director Nicholas Winter.

Another rubbish film

Who on earth keeps funding this writer/director's films, he's atrocious.
Film, after film, after film, of complete garbage, an embarrassment to the British film industry - even Danny Dyers' worst films are blockbusters compared to a Nicholas Winter film.

Greetings, salutations, and welcome to my reflections and recommendation of House of Shadows.

One word describes this picture best - Boring.
This reflection is the first time I've felt loathed to write a consideration after watching a movie. As I keep thinking, what's the point? The main objective of a film, a book, a song, or any other form of entertainment is to entertain. From there on in, everything else is secondary because you have to keep the viewers' eyes and brains engaged in the story and on the screen. The writer-director fails miserably. I should've known what was to come after watching the opening sequence, where Sarah meets with a solicitor and receives the deeds to the house. It's one of the worst-written and most unrealistic scenes I've ever watched. It's made worse because the director didn't even decide to develop the set. The pair meet in a small nondescript undecorated empty room over a cheap and tacky table. The Solicitors I've visited have pleasant premises, usually filled with book-filled shelving and cabinets. One used to bring his dogs to work with him. It was great; you'd go for a meeting, and you'd end up petting the canines for most of the appointment. That guy was smart. It's hard to get or stay angry when you have a wide-eyed mutt looking up at you expectantly with its tail wagging ten to the dozen. Something as honest or as silly as that would've added realism. But it smacked of, oh, I thought about this scene - film, that scene. And that's how the entire picture feels: No preparation, no imagination, and no thought extended past the original ideas. Because of such, the dialogue suffers the worst. It took only a couple of minutes of the two lovers talking to each other for me to wonder why they're together. There's no chemistry, and their chitter-chatter shows nothing but disinterest. It's not helped any by the thespians' portrayals. Most of the time, they look and sound bored, except for Harriet Madeley, who plays the mysterious Anna. Sadly, she's the only actress who attempts to act, but you can see her intentions, which is terrible. What's worse is that she overcooks every line. Had the other performers given more robust performances, it would've eased this handicap. Because they merely stumble and mumble their way through the film, it stresses the negative aspects of Madeley's performance, which is a shame because she's actually pulling her weight. I have much respect for her effort.
But nothing except hitting the off button could make this movie more enjoyable. Therefore, I suggest staying away from the House of Shadows as it's Boring As F. Check out my Absolute Horror list, as there should be a better movie listed there to titillate your entertainment glands.

Bad movie
caamjam-644619 April 2022
At the beginning the girl inherited a house. She tells the lawyer she doesn't know anything about it. About 20 minutes into movie she tells her boyfriend about how her sister used to go to the house. What was the point of her hand turning black? The movie doesn't make sense at all. I watched the whole thing waiting for it to get better. It didn't!
Just don't bother

No wonder it came out on disc already! After seeing 3 of 4 people already having rated it a one star, I shouldn't have rented it, but didn't see their reviews until getting home with it. The music is good, but the cinematography is awful, and this is a blue ray version we rented! Terrible script and it looks like they did everything just to make the money to maximize profits.
Easily one of the most underrated movies of 2020

In the opening scenes of House of Shadows you can't shake the feeling something is off. The dialog, music, and sound effects come together in just the right ways to produce a unique creepy atmosphere to this movie.
As the movie progresses you encounter some good jump scares, a deeper complexity to the main character, and a great story line. The ending of the film is good, I honestly didn't see the twist coming until the big reveal at the end. I've watched this movie a couple times today and,the story line doesn't seem to lose appeal to me, and I've even found a few things I've missed.
I'm glad I stumbled upon this movie, it easily became one of my favorites.

At least ....
zooshmill-9910422 February 2021
... the lead characters had chemistry. If nothing else - it's fun to watch their interplay. It's cute. The concept isn't completely original, but it has potential; just wasn't flushed out enough. But for sophomorish fare - it's decent.
Well played but unhorrific horror ...

I quite enjoyed this low-key tale of a young couple moving into a house in Spain. It has been inherited by Sarah (Elena Delia) much to her surprise, and her and boyfriend Jared's (Luke Bailey) delight in discovering the spacious rooms and new home comforts endears us to them. So, when inevitably unpleasant things start to happen, we're on their side.
Unfortunately, these occurrences are far from horrific and this isn't down to the low budget. Director Nicholas Winter fails to invest anything that might frighten, or indeed much in the way of atmosphere. Instead, it falls to the small cast to react to and fall under the influence of the evil influence Sarah's dead mother (whose house this was) has left there. This asks too much of the actors, who work hard, but aren't helped by a lack of any tangible nastiness. My score is 5 out of 10.

(2020) House of Shadows
HORROR
Written and directed by Nicholas Winter, where it has Sarah (Elena Delia) walking to see and meet lawyer/ solicitor so that he can give her the keys to her moms house. From Sarah's amazement she had no idea her somewhat estranged mom even owned her own house. Before she arrives to her mom's house, she then calls and agrees to get her boyfriend, Jared (Luke Bailey) to come with her. And by the time she and her boyfriend arrive, they are then greeted immediately by the only neighbor, Anna Sofia (Harriet Madeley). And besides already know Sarah's mom, the only she asks her before she leaves is whether her groceries had been put away or not. And during her stay, it is not long before things begin to happen in the same realm as "The Shining", Evil Dead and Groundhog Day bits and pieces of those movies. Resulting her to burn the one single thing to be the whole cause of this is a 'ouja board' buried outside of the house.
A few things, what is asinine about the entire movie is the fact that Sarah never asks nothing to the solicitor or her neighbor in regarding about her mother's death or how she knows them in the first place. It is getting the key and then go- it is asking the mother's neighbor Anna about the groceries and then go. How come viewers have not heard about her mom being stabbed by her sister before she kills herself was not brought up to the viewers attention right at the opening! Was the police involved in this! How was the remains of bother Sarah's sister, Megan and her mother were buried? Was there even a funeral? The movie was way too phony to be taken seriously. Feeling bad for the nice looking house than I did for the characters involved.

Just don't (unless)

Just don't unless you want to watch to laugh the bad acting, special effects and the many flaws in the story line. Biggest flaw that I couldn't get past is .. she claims she doesn't know about the house in the beginning and then half way through she talks about it like she's always known about it. A small detail but the devil is in the details and sometimes I fixate on things like that and it distracts me. I feel like there were a lot of weird filler moments like her always needing to take a shower? Anyways..
If you are a true thriller /horror film fan you will not be able to take this seriously but sometimes it's a good change of pace to watch a silly low budget movie! I.

Bad script.
Bad directing.
Bad acting.
Bad effects.
A movie that stinks in the eye, for watching it. It was a complete waste of time to make it, and even a bigger waste of time for those who watch it. Take my word for it. Go watch paint dry on a wall.

Simply awful
lorih3288-183-86595715 July 2022
The female lead looks like and acts like a guy. 'Her' crying scenes and loud sniveling are unbearable to get through without muting, and you can't understand a word of what her feminized boyfriend is saying as 'he' mumbles everything. Worst acting, stupidest premise, and most hideous casting I've ever witnessed. They just keep getting worse and worse with unattractive, unlikable characters and the (what seems like) intent to blur the lines between the sexes by casting masculine 'females' and feminine looking gay guys in every male role. PLEASE STOP!!! I made it through 10 minutes. Could not watch a second longer. It deserves ZERO stars as it's an insult to my and everyone else's intelligence and an assault on our ears and our eyes.
Not bad just boring

One of the few times when writing a review that I wish it was possible to award a negative star rating!
The script appears to have evolved from a hastily scrawled script on the back of a cereal packet. If anthing can be taken away from watching this, it's the lesson in how not to make a film. Really cannot think of a single redeeming feature for this one.
