Age of Dysphoria tells a profound story conceived by producer and actress, Laura Vandervoort, of compassion, grace, forgiveness, and the power of human connection. Jessica Petelle directs a masterpiece, with the screenplay written by Zoe Robyn.

The heart of the film is its beautiful storytelling of two strangers whose worlds crossed paths after a life-altering event. Fin, struggling as a recovering addict, and Fred, suffering from Alzheimer's, play on both character's vulnerable state and show us the power in human connection. One can easily relate with both characters as they resonate with anyone who has suffered either condition.

The astonishing acting work by the raw talents of Laura Vandervoort and Gordon Pinsent make the viewers immediately feel compassion for their characters, Fin and Fred. With its remarkable cinematography and use of sound, Age of Dysphoria is an outstanding short film. Despite feeling dysphoria, Fin and Fred manage to keep living and striding forward, moving ahead past their memories and seek to forgive themselves and each other.

The film is about cherishing our memories, accepting ourselves and each other for past mistakes and learning from them. The film is about restitution and human love. There is immeasurable strength in all of us to forgive ourselves and each other. The film challenges us to give grace to those around us because we may never know when we need to receive grace from others.

The mystery surrounding Fin and her relationship with Fred was increasingly more captivating as the story unfolded. Speaking few words, one can feel the sorrow and hurt that Fin is enduring by holding this dark secret inside. She knew the only way she would be truly at peace would be to let go and let out this secret in order to seek forgiveness for her past fault. Fin won't be able to go back to that day, but at least she can lift this heavy weight off her chest and restore her faith in herself.

If you are looking for a heartfelt and thought-provoking film, you need to see Age of Dysphoria. I can assure you will not be disappointed. Our struggles and sufferings don't define who we are or who we will be. Keep on, keepin' on!
