Siddharth Anand has changed gears for good. He is now riding the action genre with Bang Bang! (2014), War (2019), Pathaan (2023), and now Fighter. Fighter is termed as India’s first ‘aerial action’ film and first instalment in the ‘Fighter’ franchise. The film has references to 2019 Pulwama attack, 2019 Balakot airstrike and 2019 India-Pakistan border skirmishes, which make it more relatable and serious.
‘Fighter’ is about these top Indian Air Force aviators who are brought together in the face of imminent danger, to form a Quick Response Team ‘Air Dragons’. Fighter unfolds their camaraderie, brotherhood and battles, internal and external. As mentioned above, Siddharth Anand seems to be on a success spree with all the right moves. Let’s find out the various reasons why Fighter becomes a decent watch for the patriotic Indians and a ‘must-watch’ for the non-patriotic ones as a warning – ‘Do not mess with us’!

Ever since Ott platforms came to India, there have been voices against the unabashed gory violence, vulgarity, filthy language, nudity and sex shown in their programmes. The foreign Ott programmes are expected to have such content to a degree, but when the Indian, especially Hindi content makers, entered the field, they went berserk like a deprived lot. They made s*x look vulgar and violence gorier!
The censorship of films has been severe and for the smallest of things in some scene or sequence that is found objectionable. There was no definition of the term ‘objectionable material’ and it was widely dependent on the whims and wishes of the various examining committees who watched the films. At times, even the chairpersons were found to be overbearing and indulged in nitpicking. The censors never worked on precedents and its own decisions were never uniform.

Mumbai, March 11: Janhvi Kapoor says every actor is plagued with self-doubt, which helps them to do better. Daughter of late superstar Sridevi, Janhvi made her Bollywood debut in 2018 with Dhadak. The film fared below expectation.
She has since then been appreciated for her roles in the Ott-released films Ghost Stories and Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. The element of self-doubt, it seems, has worked well in transforming her for the better.
"Self doubt is a part of every actor's journey. I think every actor is plagued with self-doubt but at least it pushes me to do better," informs Janhvi.
The actress currently awaits the release (this Friday) of the horror comedy Roohi. She says she doesn't think about taking up scripts in accordance to genres.
"There are directors I really want to work with. I don't even know if I think in accordance to genre. I want to do stories.

Exclusive: For Janhvi Kapoor, playing the lead role in the first major Bollywood film to hit Indian cinemas since they returned to full capacity earlier this month is a nerve-wracking responsibility. The movie, the horror comedy Roohi, has pressure on its shoulders to paint a rosy picture of the Indian box office market when it releases March 11, particularly while the wider country continues to make a remarkable recovery from the pandemic.
This kind of genre cinema has not historically been a big deal in India, but it is gaining traction, as evidenced by the buzzy reception to 2018 pic Stree, which was made by Roohi producer Dinesh Vijan. In the new film, Kapoor plays a woman possessed by a witch who can only be cured by marriage. As you might have guessed, it promises to have a cultural point to make, which the actress discusses below in an exclusive first chat...

New Delhi, Oct 15 (Ians) At a time when the Janhvi Kapoor starrer 'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl' is facing flak for showing the Indian Air Force in a bad light, Flight Lieutenant (retd.) Gunjan Saxena, on whose life the Dharma Production film is based, has apprised the Delhi High Court that she has "not faced any discrimination on the basis of her gender" during her tenure at the force.
"The Deponent (Gunjan Saxena) has not faced any discrimination on the basis of her gender. The Iaf rather gave the Deponent an opportunity to serve the nation, including in the Kargil War," the Iaf officer said in her affidavit filed before a single-judge bench of the High Court presided by Justice Rajiv Shakdher.
The Centre had moved the high court saying the movie has dented the image of the Iaf as it showed that the force is gender-biased, which is not correct.

Mumbai, Sep 6 (Ians) Acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi says, be it son or daughter, parents should allow their children to be independent.

He added that if parents instill confidence in children to be their own decision makers, they will be responsible.
"They should take charge of their lives and even as we are available to guide them at every step, we shouldn't overshadow their life with the baggage of our lived experiences and opinions. Since the time Sacred Games released on the Ott streaming platform Netflix, there has been a debate on whether the content on these platforms should be kept in check or let to run loose.
The series had never-seen-before morbidity, unnatural sex, filthiest of foul language and yet delivered nothing that one could take home. Taking home was a phrase much related to films as there were times when one walked out of a cinema hall humming one of the film's songs or repeating its dialogue. What do you take home from, say, Sacred Games, Pataal Lok, Mirzapur, Mastram and such?
This column just recently discussed the limitations of the Cinematograph Act by which the authority of the Central Board of Film Certification (Cbfc) extends only till rating and certifying a film product that is meant for public exhibition.
In such an event, there is no check on what passes as Ott content.

Mumbai, Sep 5 (Ians) Pankaj Tripathi turned 44 on Saturday. The versatile actor has explored every medium as an actor -- theatre, television, films and Ott -- and has made a mark in a relatively short span of time.
On the occasion of his birthday, Ians looks at five much appreciated performance of Tripathi that can counted as milestones in his career so far.
Gangs Of Wasseypur
Tripathi played Sultan Qureshi, one of the big enemies of protagonist Sardar Khan, played by Manoj Bajpayee, in the two-part Anurag Kashyap saga released in 2012. While the film was well received and many of its dialogues became memorable, it was a particular witty line of Sultan that endeared Tripathi to the masses: "Yeh Wasseypur hai, yahaan kabootar bhi ek pankh se udta hai, aur doosre se izzat bachata hai."

InterviewManush, the cinematographer of 'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl', says he grew up in a home where discussions on politics, art and society were common.Sowmya RajendranManushnandan is over the moon. The 35-year-old cinematographer, who calls himself a 'total Chennai boy', is delighted that his latest film Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl has been getting good reviews and word of mouth. The film, starring Janhvi Kapoor, released on Netflix last week and is about Indian Air Force officer Gunjan Saxena who flew in the Kargil War. For Manush, who grew up in a home where discussions on politics, art and society were common, an interest in cinema happened organically. The son of late writer and journalist Gnani and feminist writer As Padmavathi, Manush says that he directed two short films, both based on Tamil writer Ashokamitran's stories, when he was only 11 years old for a Children's Day programme on Doordarshan.

EntertainmentSome of these films have retained the origins of the character though the language is Hindi while others have completely changed their identity. Tnm StaffThe newly released biopic Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl has opened to good reviews but has also snowballed into a controversy for supposedly distorting facts about the Indian Air Force. More importantly, the film does not show Iaf pilot Sreevidya Rajan from Kerala, who also served in the Kargil war with Gunjan. Sreevidya has, in fact, said that she was the first woman Iaf officer to fly in a combat zone and not Gunjan as the film suggests. Though the makers have said that the film is a fictionalised account, it has drawn sharp criticism for these departures. While Bollywood has made several biopics and films based on real life incidents, the southern industries are slowly catching up with the trend. Perhaps in future, south Indian...
