Earlier this year, NBC pulled out all the stops for it special “Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love.” And on Dec. 21, CBS is throwing a birthday party for one of its biggest stars, Dick Van Dyke, who headlined the landmark 1961-66 sitcom “The Dick Van Dyke Show” as well as the lighthearted detective series “Diagnosis, Murder,” which ran from 1993-2000.
“Dick Van Dyke: 98 Years of Magic” is a two-hour valentine to the actor, who celebrated his birthday on Dec. 13, featuring special guests such as Jane Seymour, Rob Reiner, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen and testimonials from Carol Burnett, Mark Hamill and “Mary Poppins” herself, Julie Andrews. Song-and-dance also play an important part of the special. Van Dyke earned a Tony in 1961 for “Bye Bye Birdie” and reprised his role in the 1963 musical. He introduced the Oscar-winning tune “Chim Chim Cher-ee” from 1964’s “Mary Poppins” as well as the...

“Sweet Tooth” returns to Netflix, hopefully with a sweeter season for the good guys. Gus, Wendy, and the kids are locked up under the zoo, where they await Aimee and Jepp’s arrival to take them to safety. In the meantime, Abbot has put Adi on a mission to find the cure for the virus as soon as possible, or his wife Rani will die. Bear, or as we now know her name to be, Becky, is in Birdie’s house with Judy, waiting for the return of Gus and Jepp, but she was able to get an active connection on her radio phone to reach Birdie, who is still alive and well. Will the paths of all the teams intertwine to save the day? Let’s find out all that happens in the first episode of “Sweet Tooth” season 2.

If the 14th annual TCM Classic Film Festival had an official focus, it was on the 100th anniversary of Warner Bros., from the opening night premiere selection of a restoration of “Rio Bravo” to a celebration of the 50th anniversary of “The Exorcist.” Almost equal in emphasis, though, by virtue of the guests brought in, was a celebration of the ingenues-turned-leading-ladies of the 1960s, who now represent the elder guard of a Hollywood golden age — Angie Dickinson, Ann-Margret and Shirley Jones.
Dickinson had the highest profile of any star at the festival, being the belle of the ball at the Thursday screening of “Rio Bravo” in the big house at the Tcl Chinese Theatres, where most of the screenings were held. But there was just as much outpouring of affection for Ann-Margret, who turned up for a Q&a (and birthday cake) following “Bye Bye Birdie” on Saturday, and Jones,...

For seven long days, Grey’s Anatomy kept us in suspense, fearful that the long-running ABC drama might actually kill off Kate Walsh‘s beloved Addison Montgomery. Finally, Thursday, we got our answer. Read on, and we’ll discuss everything that went down in “Pick Yourself Up.”
‘Remember When Being A Doctor Was Considered Heroic?’ | As the second half of the two-parter began — read the recap of Part 1 here — chaos reigned. Addison and Tia (the pregnant Ob) were ambulanced from the clinic to Grey Sloan, and Teddy put the hospital in lockdown. “I was only clipped on the shoulder,” Addison immediately informed Bailey.

It may not be the second coming of Friday Night Lights or The Good Wife, but ABC’s Will Trent is probably my favorite broadcast network TV drama of the year. What I appreciate most about the Karin Slaughter adaptation is how quickly it established its characters, its location and the elements of its premise that are relatively distinctive. The show became what it aspired to be in a hurry.
No such alacrity accompanies ABC’s new drama The Company You Keep. Wade through two episodes of belabored exposition and The Company You Keep becomes a promising rom-com with thriller trappings and an interesting family backdrop — not a series fully realized but a series with some potential.
The kind of show it wants to be, basically, is The Catch, a Shonda Rhimes-produced comedic heist romance that ABC developed, redeveloped and redeveloped again over a truncated two-season run back in...

Good news for all you Brolin-heads! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by one very intriguing TV project starring Thanos himself.
The Josh Brolin-starring Outer Range premieres April 15 and looks like it could be a wild ride. The synopsis is terse and reads “A rancher fighting for his land and family stumbles upon an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness, forcing a confrontation with the Unknown in ways both intimate and cosmic in the untamable American West.” That, combined with an enigmatic first trailer, has our interest piqued.
Also on the TV side of things this month is season 2 of the beautifully rotoscoped series Undone on April 29. Rosa Salazar returns as Alma, a woman who may have become unstuck in time to help save her scientist father’s life. Before that, the British TV series The Outlaws makes its debut...
