Commercial for Tim Burton's New MoMA Exhibition

21 hours ago | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

On Sunday, November 22nd, a Tim Burton exhibition will open at MoMA, one of the coolest spots on the planet. It runs through April 26th, so there's plenty of time to catch it if you're going to be in New York City over the holidays or into next spring.

It's being heralded as a "major career retrospective" on Burton, whose next film is Alice in Wonderland. According to MoMA's website, the exhibition "presents artwork generated during the conception and production of his films, and highlights a number of unrealized projects and never-before-seen pieces, as well as student art, his earliest non-professional films, and examples of his work as a storyteller and graphic artist for non-film projects."

Sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon. To kick off the exhibition, Burton has directed a new commercial for the museum. It doesn't break down any walls, but it's clearly Tim Burton »

Today, Walt Disney Pictures has released the second poster featuring Alice and the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen). Next up will be the Caterpillar (Alan Rickman) and Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp).

Second Alice in Wonderland Poster

12 November 2009 12:52 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Walt Disney has release the second poster in a series of three one sheets promoting Tim Burton’s re-imagination of Alice in Wonderland.  The first debuted earlier this week and featured the White Queen (Anne Hathaway), the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter), and the Cheshire Cat (voiced by Stephen Fry).

The second is equally vibrant, layering the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen) in front of Alice (Mia Wasikowska) and the Mad Hatter’s tea party.

You can subscribe to the Mad Hatter’s Facebook page for the third and any other updates before the released on March 5, 2010. Of course, the entire banner already leaked to the Internet, so we know the next will feature Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter and the first glimpse of the Alan Rickman-voiced Caterpillar.

Most Adorable Commercial Ever? Tim Burton's MoMA Spot

12 November 2009 12:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Some might say it's too early to have a career retrospective for Tim Burton, which the Museum of Modern Art in NYC will be hosting from November 22, 2009 to April 26, 2010, but I say, "Bring it on!" The more Tim, the better. And naturally, the commercial promoting this must-see exhibition is directed by Burton and scored by his longtime collaborator Danny Elfman.

The exhibition will include Burton's sketches, films, a book signing, and a special film series called "Tim Burton and the Lurid Beauty of Monsters" "that have influenced, inspired, and intrigued Burton, and which reflect the motifs, themes, and sensibilities of his work."

For more info on the exhibit, go to the official MoMa website. Meanwhile, you can check out the commercial after the jump, or read some previous goodies on Mr. Burton, like this gallery of Tim Burton art, an interview with him at Comic-Con, and the extended trailer for Alice in Wonderland. »

The Week in Film: Oscar Bait

12 November 2009 9:02 AM, PST | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Why, hello, folks! Another week means another week closer to December, which means it’s another week closer to Oscar bait movies. Aren’t you curious? I know you are, so let’s begin!

First up, we have 2012. It’s one of those natural disaster movies, but this time, on a global scale. The whole thing is based on the end of the world that in turn is based on the Mayan calendar. Expect super visual effects in the likes of things blowing up, giant tsunamis, raining meteors, skyscrapers collapsing, and Godzilla. Oh wait, scratch that last one.

Okay, sure this isn’t Oscar bait. But still, if you’re feeling like July in November, go for it! Oh, yeah, 2012 stars John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Oliver Platt, and Amanda Peet.

The second of the two wide releases this week is Pirate Radio. In the 1960s, a bunch of DJs went on a boat, »

Trio of New Movie Posters: Alice in Wonderland, Kick-Ass and Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

11 November 2009 8:18 PM, PST | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Another new poster for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland caps a slew of new movie posters that have been released over the past few days.

The Alice in Wonderland poster, featuring the White Rabbit, is the second of three promised treasures via a viral marketing campaign for the film on Facebook. The third and final piece will be delivered when the Hatter receives 9,000 "likes" on this latest poster. You can cast your "like" vote here.

Kick-Ass picks up its first official poster from Lionsgate following the trailer debut last night. It is probably the coolest trashy poster I have ever seen.

Lastly is a new poster for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus that heavily features Heath Ledger as the main draw. There's a lot of imagery to look at which makes this a fun one.

New Posters for Kick-ass and Alice In Wonderland

11 November 2009 3:06 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Kick-Ass and Alice in Wonderland both have new posters online today.  The one for Kick-Ass continues the theme of how Lionsgate is selling the film: This isn’t a superhero parody but just because it’s set in the real world, doesn’t mean it can’t have a comic book flavor.  It works for me, but I’m aching to get a red-band trailer so I can get a sense of whatever folks saw at Comic-Con that caused them to go insane.

The new poster for Alice in Wonderland is the second part of the triptych after the release of the first piece of on Monday.  I misunderstood the concept and thought Monday’s poster was stand alone because it looked awful.  Knowing that it was part of a set of three wasn’t any better but it at least explained why Alice (Mia Wasikowska) or The Mad Hatter »

Would Jim Carrey Rather Be Starring in Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland"?

11 November 2009 6:00 AM, PST | Fast Company | See recent Fast Company news »

His Disney-fied A Christmas Carol may have opened to big bucks last weekend, but it seems like Jim Carrey might be angling for roles more akin to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. His new site, jimcarrey.com was submerged in a flood of clicks late last week as fans and haters spouted off about the creepy-beautiful experience that's as visually bizarre as a Magritte painting and as flat-out weird as Monty Python.

The site is the brainchild of 65 Media, and although they'd worked on sites for Carrey films like the The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, this one was different from the beginning, says founder and Cco Albin Reif. "In this case we were going into the mind of the genius." 65 Media presented Carrey with several concepts, one of them being this visually-driven idea that instantly resonated with Carrey. "He opened up his world to us, »

New Images and Whimsy from Tim Burton's Alice

11 November 2009 1:49 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Lots of new glimpses of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland have been leaking out over the last few days. Over the weekend, some scans of a magazine spread with images from the movie popped up, including a first peek at the Caterpillar, who will be played Alan Rickman, perched atop a giant mushroom with hookah in hand.

The spread was followed up this week by a staggered release of new posters for the movie via the Facebook page for The Disloyal Subjects of the Mad Hatter. All have been nicely teased by the Hatter, who is demanding increasing thousands of "likes" for each new peek.

First up is a gorgeous character composite dominated by the imperious Red Queen. After a bit of a delay and 7000 "likes" later, the Hatter deigned to let out a second poster featuring Alice and the White Rabbit amid a psychedelic landscape of tea party, »
