After thoroughly eviscerating the 2009 People's Choice Awards, I was honored (possibly not the correct word) to be asked by my editors if I would watch and comment on this year's ceremony. And while I do not believe I deserve any credit or thanks -- send your notes of gratitude to whoever hired Survivor producer Mark Burnett - I am thrilled to announce that the 2010 People's Choice Awards were at least 47 percent less utterly moronic than their predecessor. In fact, it is possible I legitimately enjoyed entire seconds of the broadcast.
Because of this enjoyment, and because I am, in fact,

New Images and a Mysterious Book from Alice in Wonderland

A couple more images of Johnny Depp as Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter have been released. The first is a production still in which he is looking, well, a bit mad, with one of Wonderland's whimsical armies in the background. The second, a piece of outdoor promotional art, has him mischievously lurking around the base of a very large mushroom.
A mysterious promotional book has also been sent out to various movie review sites. More than a book, actually. It's a beautifully designed series of nested books, full of teaser images from the movie. In the final book is a Usb key that unlocks a copy of the trailer and more Alice images. Sadly, the book doesn't seem likely to become available to the general public, but you can get a vicarious taste of the experience in a pair of videos from one of the guys over at Latino

Just because it's out there, here's a new shot of Johnny Depp from Alice in Wonderland. He is, of course, playing The Mad Hatter and not Kathy Griffin, but it would be an honest mistake had you made it.
Unless it's Shutter Island, which comes out two weeks earlier, I think Alice is going to be the first really big movie of the year. It may not be the first to hit $100 million, but it will be the fastest, barring some unforeseen collapse. And I think the IMAX/3-D device should work very well here, given Tim Burton's reputation as a visual stylist.
This picture comes from the film's Facebook page, which, as you'll recall, was such a big factor in the events of the original book.

Depp Creeps Me Out in New ‘Wonderland’ Pic

Disney has released a new still from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. In the background, an army advances in what is probably the epic battle shown briefly in the theatrical trailer.
Johnny Depp is pictured in the foreground in full Mad Hatter regalia, complete with a popped pink collar only frat boys can relate to and bushy red hair around his ghost-white face. In typical Burton fashion, it’s an odd re-imagining, but the element that caught my attention was Depp’s eyes. They’re neon green and angled in crazy directions (after all, he’s mad). If you’re headed to bed, don’t stare at this picture, like I made the mistake of doing.
Alice in Wonderland is out March 5, 2010.

Until now, the only images we’ve seen from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland have been posters. With a March 5th release looming, we finally get to see the first official production photo of Johnny Depp in his Mad Hatter make-up. The ominous image shows Depp in all his unsettling clownish glory complete with emerald eyes and flaming red hair. The scene is marked by dark clouds and what appears to be an out of focus army of medieval knights. If this weren’t a Burton movie, that may sound a little strange.
Hit the jump to see the new image.
When I first heard that Tim Burton was going to do his version of Alice in Wonderland, I was intrigued. Then I heard that it was going to be in 3D, I knew I would have to see it. The psychedelic weirdness of the source material matched with

Disney just sent us the first official photograph of Tim Burton's latest maniac, the Mad Hatter, as portrayed by Burton regular Johnny Depp in the director's upcoming take on Alice in Wonderland. Check out the full image after the jump.
We've seen this Hatter before in artwork and on posters, but what do you think of this photo of Depp in character? The look is as distinct and imaginative as anything in Burton's previous work. But the look isn't what's sometimes shaky in Burton's movies -- it's the story. Here's hoping Linda Woolverton's screenplay is strong enough to withstand any visual extravagances (however gorgeous they may be) on the part of the

Since the dawn of the motion picture industry people have been trying to capture the essence of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre on film. In fact, since the first silent film was released in 1915 there has been at least one movie or television adaptation per decade.
Cary Fukunaga’s new project will be the first feature-length Jane of the new millennium.
On the heels of the BBC’s successful Jane Eyre miniseries in 2007, which garnered three Emmy Awards, the company announced plans early in 2008 to produce a Jane Eyre for the big screen. Ruby Films and Focus Features signed on for production as well.
Like the most recent television and film adaptations, this new project will also be a period piece. However, the screenplay, written by Moira Buffini, sets a foundation for the project to capitalize on the more gothic elements of the story.
While Ellen Page had signed on

What's more exciting than the Super Bowl? The commercials, of course. And what's more exciting than the commercials? Reading about the commercials weeks in advance and -- no, wait, that's not very exciting at all. At any rate, the folks over at Advertising Age have given us a sneak peek at all of the ads and promos we can expect to see during Super Bowl Xliv this year. I was rummaging through my AdAge articles this morning in my email at work and I was directed to a link “Who’s Buying What at the Super Bowl?” When looking at the list I was not only taken aback at the fact Gm, Pepsi, FedEx and other Super Bowl Ad vets not buying media but noticed that Walt Disney, Paramount and Universal all have bought ad space.
Here is what we know based on the article.
Paramount plans on having three ads in the first and second quarters of the big game to promote February’s release of Shutter Island, May’s Release of Iron Man 2 and July’s release of The Last Airbender from M. Night Shayamalan.
Universal plans on at least one spot according to the trade being that they have purchased media buy but the studio declined to comment on the activity. The possible creative
