I have seen comparisons of Guilt being made with John Byrne's Tutti Frutti. That really is big shoes to fill given the stars of that series were Robbie Coltrane and Emma Thompson.
The first episode does have elements of Scottish Noir mixed with the Coen brothers.
Two estranged brothers, Jake (Jamie Sives) and Max (Mark Bonnar) knock over an old man and kill him after driving back late at night from a wedding. Both of them had too much to drink and Max is worried about the effect on his career as a lawyer.
As they figure that no one has seen the incident, they decide to cover up the death and take the body back to his house.
However the meek record shop owner Jake feels guilty about his actions. He also left his wallet behind at the dead man's house. It later emerges that the victim had terminal cancer.
It really is a simple cover up that descends into chaos and both brothers that start to bicker and events get complicated.
The first episode of this black comedy drama showed promise. You just know it will get messy especially as Max is more aggressive and self centered.
