Please watch this movie, its pretty damn good.
animatingtrashglasses1 August 2020
The Exigency is honestly probably one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Whilst the graphics are less than stellar on their own, the cinematography, writing, pacing, etc. range from above average to excellent. I was never bored during this movie, despite it being two hours long. Cody Vibbart has a talent for this and his passion, as well as that of everyone else working on this project, is clearly shown. If given a bigger budget, a team of animators working on a more modern animation software and a little polish it would easily hold mass-market appeal.

The comedy is funny, the cinematography is creative and adds to the scenes tremendously and the writing is unique. This movie comes highly recommended if you have amazon prime. Only reason I've rated this 8/10 is the admittedly pretty trash graphics (through no fault of anyone working on the project, its done well with what they have) and a few minor awkward scenes, but otherwise its a damn good movie.

Honestly the most entertaining movie of 2020 so far
hoopsando20 September 2020
Yes, the animation was done by one person. Yes, the entire move is animated in the archaic program Poser. Yes the budget was probably around $37. But I was completely entertained and smiling for the entire duration of the movie, which is something I can't say for any other movie this year. The movie is completely self-aware of its own shortcomings, and it takes them in stride. It's not intentionally bad or low- quality, a la Sharknado, rather, it makes lemonade from lemons. Poser animation is choppy, clippy, and ugly, so the movie utilizes those aspects to create an almost meta, slapstick humor. Thankfully the slapstick is never overused, so that the action and battle scenes still feel intense and high-stakes. The Exigency is something completely unique, something you wouldn't and couldn't ever get from Pixar or DreamWorks. And it's stuck with me much more than the offerings from those studios in 2020. It's worth watching and talking about, and it's perfect for movie night with friends.

This movie is a masterpiece. From what I know, Cody Vibbart made this full-length feature film on his home computer over the span of 13 years. This is completely mind-blowing. The graphics do look like a video game from the early 2000's, which most people would probably say ruins any asthetic whatsoever, but I think he made it work to his advantage. There are several moments in the film that could not have happened if it were produced in any other medium. Once you get used to the quirky graphics, the entire production is actually pretty great, and it is nothing short of being expertly crafted. When you watch the preview, you might be thinking, "wow, this looks like garbage"; but I promise that if you force yourself to watch the first 12 minutes, you'll need to see the rest of it. Especially considering this is 13 years of someone's life, this guy deserves some recognition. Mad respect. The least you could do is just watch the movie. Now I do have to say that this is pg-13, so I wouldn't watch this for family movie night; but if you are an independent film enthusiast, or are just kinda bored out of your mind, this is the film for you. So, in conclusion, this is 13 years of someone's life dedicated to making a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that definitely deserves some recognition.

Why the hell is this actually good?

I came looking for copper and instead I found gold. Not only is this movie well written, but it's also ahead of it's time. Technically the movie was written and voice acted 11 years ago, so I'd say that if this were released around that time it would have been more of a hit. The only aspect it lacks is visual appeal, but I don't see that as a problem

Very engaging film
dmananimation2 August 2020
I was thoroughly entertained throughout. It's fun, extremely good, the action is so well done, just watch it. It's free on amazon, less than 2 hours. I know you have amazon prime just go watch it seriously. Thx for listening.

Graphics are as poor as the story is good!
babykinnsenshi21 December 2022
James Cameron spent 13 years on Avatar: The Way of Water delivering a movie that was impressive in visuals but poor in story.

Cody Vibbart spent 13 years animating this film in poser, delivering a movie poor in visuals but impressive in story.

If I had to choose between the movies; Exigency wins hands down! Engaging story, fun characters, good jokes and a plot that delivers, you will watch this film through to the end with your only disappointment being you have to wait a while for the sequel. Fortunately Mr. Vibbart has accelerated the process with a better animation program meaning the sequel won't take another 13 years--but it's still worth wait, if it did.

Moral of this review? A pretty face doesn't make up for a crappy personality. Story matters more than style every time.

Looks and sounds awful, but has a fine story
jakob35612 August 2020
It is like watching a cut scene in a 15 year old video game, and while waiting for your turn to play, you get to like the engaging story.

The voice actors are not really acting together, just delivering their lines, somewhat dry. Fortunately there is some humour and fun here and there to lighten things up. The animation and looks of everything is just dated and ugly. Especially the characthers' shiny white strange teeths as they speak are annoying. External scenery, without any living things in it, are quite good.

The story is simple and full of clichés, and remind you of some action flick from the VHS era around 1987, but it suits the corny animation and acting just fine.

It would be great to see it as a real feature film at some time. Dwayne Johnson could be Kyle, Timothy Oliphant could play Diedrick, and John C Rielly could play King Sargon. If you can sit through dated badly animated movies like Havoc in Heaven or Akira, you will have a good time with this too.

This movie is the most inexplicable masterpiece I've ever seen. You'd think that with animation this dated it would be awful, but somehow, it's amazing. This movie is one of the most unique experiences I've ever had, couldn't recommend it more.

Must watch
clint-udy2 August 2020
While the animation seems off-putting at first, once you get past it you find a well developed storyline with true character development, humor, and serious plot. It gets better to watch as the film progresses.

While free on prime, I went and bought it to support the creator, it was that good. I can't wait for the second one!

A hidden gem in the truest sense.
iwillnotdie21 April 2022
Whilst the graphics look like something on a PS1, what stands out is the heart and soul, and the delightful dark humour, that just one man has poured into the production of this hidden gem of a movie. Well worth watching alone for the rye humour, quips, and one liners, which make this film one of the funniest laugh out loud films Ive seen in years. The film goes to show that you don't need big budgets and a high production values to make a good movie.

The Best Creation Of Mankind
clubfazbearitsme6 January 2022
This film is one of the best films ever created by mankind, and I mean it. 13 years worth the wait. This film is up there with The Lord Of The Rings and Star Wars, yes, it is that incredible.
