After Daddy’s Home 2 and Father Stu, Mark Wahlberg is once again joining hands with Mel Gibson for Flight Risk which will hit theatres later this year. Clearly, Mel Gibson is completely focused on rebuilding his name in the industry after being in the dead center of many controversies in the late 2000s.
Father Stu (2022) | Columbia Pictures
While he has starred alongside Mark Wahlberg in the last couple of films, Flight Risk will have him sitting behind the camera lens and on the director’s chair. The upcoming film’s storyline sure seems promising; however, it looks like they have taken a page out of the script of Nicolas Cage’s iconic 1997 action thriller, Con Air.

Lionsgate announced release dates for a few movies today, including Flight Risk, Mel Gibson’s first time in the director’s chair since Hacksaw Ridge. The action thriller, which stars Mark Wahlberg, will be released on October 18th.
Directed by Mel Gibson and written by Jared Rosenberg, Flight Risk finds Wahlberg playing a pilot transporting an Air Marshall (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.”
Our own Chris Bumbray was able to see a trailer for Flight Risk at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last month and he teased that Wahlberg is playing “Way against type” in the movie. “He even shaved his head to look like he has a bald pate,” Bumbray wrote. “Looks like a really tight kickass thriller, and Gibson Really makes Walhberg look crazy in this.

The JJ Perry directed The Killer’s Game, based on the book by Jay R. Here we go again. In recent years, Mel Gibson’s found himself stuck in a never-ending series of Dtv-style action thrillers, similar to the kind of fare Bruce Willis churned out before his retirement. Along with his contemporaries like John Travolta, John Cusack and many others, Gibson seems totally stuck in a rut, with virtually all of these films (most of which he only has minor roles in) going totally unnoticed. Has anyone seen Panama, Agent Game, On the Line, Confidential Informant, Desperation Road, Dangerous or Force of Nature? There have been some bright spots, such as the solid Bandit (a movie he was proud of when I interviewed him) or Fatman, but for the most part, Gibson’s career as an actor in mainstream movies seems limited to this kind of fare, which is a shame.
Nevertheless, he’s still out there cranking out VOD movies, with Boneyard being the latest.

Hollywood decamped for Las Vegas this week for CinemaCon, looking to reassure movie theater owners and executives that they had what it takes to keep audiences flocking to cinemas through 2024 and beyond. And despite odes to the magic of the big screen experience, there was a whiff of desperation in the artificially-oxygenated, cigarette-perfumed air of Caesars Palace, where the annual exhibition trade show takes place.
That’s because the box office hasn’t recaptured its pre-pandemic stride — studios estimate that roughly 15% to 20% of frequent moviegoers have yet to resume their old entertainment habits now that Covid has dissipated. Plus, the labor strikes that consumed the media industry for much of the previous year as actors and writers hit the picket lines resulted in production delays that left theaters with fewer movies to hawk on their marquees.

Mark Wahlberg promised that he gets to show a very different side of himself in “Flight Risk,” a new thriller from Mel Gibson. And based on the trailer that Lionsgate shared at CinemaCon on Thursday, that’s no exaggeration. Wahlberg, who specializes in square-jawed heroes, is balding and psychotic, playing a mob hit man who tricks a federal agent into allowing him to pilot a plane carrying an informant out of a remote area.

It may come as a surprise to some that Mel Gibson is indeed still working. Not only that, but one of his recent thrillers — 2022's "On the Line" — was ranked one of the three most-watched films on Netflix in the last week. It seems that despite his ... controversies ... Gibson is still able to draw an audience.

Upon his arrest, Gibson unleashed a drunken tirade that included several sexist and antisemitic remarks that were leaked to the public by TMZ. In recent years, Mark Wahlberg has done projects that are aimed at family audiences. A fresh report suggests that the long-gestating buddy cop sequel Lethal Weapon 5 will shoot next year, with Mel Gibson in the director’s chair.

Then, in the same year we heard that Mel Gibson, one half of the series’ leading duo was set to take over the directorial reins. When crowds gather to watch cars speed through retrofitted streets in Las Vegas Nov. 19, they’ll be looking at more than just the Formula 1 Heineken Silver Grand Prix. They’ll also be the audience — and extras — for Brad Pitt’s untitled racing movie from Apple Original Films and director Joseph Kosinski.

What makes it unique and special is the blending of a fictional team and drivers into the actual 2023 world championship.”

Despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes that have halted all major studio productions, “Bride Hard” was granted an Interim Agreement to continue filming amid the strikes, because it is an independently produced film.
“This list includes productions that are signed to agreements within the scope of the strike order, but have signed Interim Agreements allowing them to resume,” reads the official list from SAG-AFTRA.
The actress and comedian took to her Instagram Story on Thursday to show off a nasty injury she obtained while filming her upcoming wedding comedy, “Bride Hard”, which is currently in production in Savannah, Georgia.

In the wake of prominent members airing concerns about SAG-AFTRA’s interim agreements, union leaders are justifying the granting of these pacts — which allow films and TV shows to proceed amid the ongoing performers’ strike — to independent productions.
In a message sent to members Sunday evening, the union’s TV/theatrical negotiating committee maintained that these agreements are a “vital part of our strategic approach” during the 2023 negotiations and strike. The majority of projects that are granted these agreements are “entirely independent” from the companies that comprise the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, whose unresolved negotiations with the union have resulted in the current strike, the group stated. Some exceptions, however, are being made for “extraordinary circumstances mandated by legal considerations, such as Tehran.” (SAG-AFTRA’s national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland previously told Deadline that Tehran, an Apple TV+-distributed series produced by an Israeli company and shot in Greece,...

The writers strike caused a lot of films and TV shows to shut down production a couple months ago – and a lot more that were able to continue filming without writers have since been shut down by the Screen Actors Guild strike. But if a production happens to be independent, it can receive a waiver that will allow it to continue filming and its actors will continue working, even if they’re SAG members. Deadline and Variety report that some of the projects that have received SAG waivers include the Sam Raimi-produced horror film Don’t Move, the Mel Gibson / Mark Wahlberg thriller Flight Risk, the thriller The Watchers, and Hannibal TV series creator Bryan Fuller’s Dust Bunny, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver.

Not every TV and film production will stop amid dual strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America. A host of projects stopped work after writers went on strike against media companies for better pay, streaming data transparency and protections against artificial intelligence (among other issues), and many more have paused since actors walked out on July 14.
There are exceptions, however. SAG-AFTRA’s strike rules allow for work on productions covered under different agreements, and the union can grant waivers or sign interim agreements with independent productions. Below is a list of TV shows and films that fall under those designations; this story will be updated as more productions earn waivers.

SAG-AFTRA has given approval to 39 independent productions to shoot despite their ongoing strike, including one film that will star Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega.
Variety reports that the movie in question, called Death of a Unicorn, is excluded from the strike because its production studio, A24, is not affiliated with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The film is said to star Rudd and Ortega as a father and daughter who run over a unicorn on their way home. Filming is expected to begin soon in Hungary.
Another A24 film that’s set to go on amid the strike is David Lowery’s Mother Mary, which we know will star Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel and feature music from Jack Antonoff and Charli Xcx.

When following up on a massive box-office hit as well as a cultural milestone, and there’s a great wealth of source material to draw from, it’s not out of the question these days to spread the story through multiple sequels. This can especially be true if the source in consideration is The New Testament. Mel Gibson made a career redefining film in 2004 with the independently made Bible epic, The Passion of the Christ, which chronicled the last hours of Jesus’ life, from his apprehension to his crucifixion.
The film ended with the Tomb of Christ opening with his reappearance, and for years, Gibson has been planning to do a full-on feature-length sequel that continues from the stinger right before the end credits. The Lethal Weapon star intended to follow the film with The Passion of the Christ: The Resurrection. World of Reel is reporting on an interview conducted with Jim Caviezel,...

Mel Gibson is not producing a four-part documentary centered on child sex trafficking, TheWrap has confirmed.
False reports of the Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker’s involvement in the project’s development with Operation Underground Railroad began circulating this week, leading Gibson’s publicist and the nonprofit organization’s founder Tim Ballard to release statements debunking the claims.
“Mel deserves all the credit for taking the initiative to further the critical work that we do,” Ballard said in a statement Thursday. “I am personally grateful for his support as we worked on this documentary, however reports this four-part series is actually being produced by Mr. Gibson are not accurate. It’s being produced by Nick Nanton of DNA Films and includes several executive producers such as Kyle Cease, Tony and Sage Robbins and other wonderful and talented people.”

As Braveheart’s William Wallace once put it, “Every man dies, not every man truly lives.” And has a man truly lived until Mel Gibson has bailed him out of a jam on the side of the road in the pitch black of night? In a viral video, the star is seen as a true road warrior, helping a citizen air up his tire in an act that has garnered praise for Gibson. While the video has been around for well over a year, new exposure has helped shed a new light on Mel Gibson – no, really, he needs you to shine a light on the pressure gauge for him.
The video, which is embedded below, finds the stranded man askingMel Gibson, “Why are you alone?” The Academy Award-winning actor shrugs his shoulders and responds, “Why are you?” The fella in distress replies, “I am alone because I am not famous,...

The stars are out at this year’s Cannes, and not just on the red carpet that leads up to the splashy premieres that make the festival the most glamorous celebration of movies in the world. From Daisy Ridley to Alicia Vikander, Angelina Jolie to Sylvester Stallone, Idris Elba to Jude Law, several A-list actors are attached to projects that are being brought to market at Cannes in what looks like its biggest edition in years. Will all that high-wattage talent lead to one mega-deal after another?
“It’s obviously going to be an outrageously busy market,” says Constantin Film’s Martin Moszkowicz. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen as much product, definitely not for the last couple of years, led by very high-profile movies with big cast, big directors, big budgets.”
Yet, the big question, Moszkowicz adds, is when and how all these projects will get made.

Kelsey Asbille (Yellowstone, Fargo, Wind River) and Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story, The Big Short, La La Land) have been tapped to lead the upcoming horror thriller Don’t Move from Sam Raimi’s Raimi Productions, Christian Mercuri’s Capstone Studios and Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios. Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, who recently helmed episodes of Raimi’s horror anthology series 50 States of Fright, are set to direct Don’t Move, which follows a seasoned killer who injects a grieving woman with a paralytic agent.
