Secrets and Lies was another funny episode of "30 Rock"
tavm8 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Jenna got an award for a "movie based on a musical based on a movie" which gets Tracy jealous so Liz makes one up for him. Tracy then wants to stage an award presentation. Jack and C.C. are tired of sneaking around but while C.C. settles with her company in order for her and Jack to go public, Jack still refuses. James Carville just happens to stop by and helps Jack change his mind. He also helps Frank and Twofer settle their feud. Then he helps someone break into a candy machine. All "Cajun style". Jenna, feeling jealous of Tracy's preferential treatment, becomes difficult herself until Liz reveals her award was a fake and how she's had to coddle her too. That gets Jenna in forgiving mode. After Jack and C.C. come out to his Republican friends, many of them start confession things too, the last one saying, "I killed my wife"...Another funny episode of "30 Rock". I loved Tracy when he was about to "shark" Jenna! Everyone's on fire here and was glad to see Josh back in this and the last episode after being absent much of this season. Also like the American Express Christmas commercials that featured Kenneth and many of the supporting cast especially the one with Pete on "his time" about to watch the lesbian scene in Mulholland Drive when he suddenly gets surprised by Kenneth and Pete's kids! With one more episode to go, I hope NBC keeps this show on after the writers' strike ends despite the not-so-impressive ratings.

Great Episode!

This is the eighth episode of the second season of 30 Rock and I cannot believe how this show keeps on producing funny after funny episodes. I'm not complaining, but I'm really happy because I love these kind of laugh riots. The acting is always top-notch especially by these three regulars: Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, and Tracy Morgan.

In this episode, "Secrets and Lies," Jack and C.C are going to extreme lengths to keep their relationship a secret. Frank and James are having a feud on whether or not Frank is allowed to wear Harvard attire. Meanwhile, Liz is trying to keep both Tracy and Jenna happy, but Jenna decides to act like Tracy to get what she wants.

Overall, this is a very amusing episode that is non-stop funny. I loved the feud between Jenna and Liz the best. Another great episode in another great series. I rate this episode 9/10.

Secrets and Lies (#2.8)

Warning: Spoilers
Jenna feels that Tracy gets treated better than her because of his fake awards, but at the end Liz confesses that she was doing the same for her. great ending and idea, and so many hilarious scenes when Jenna was trying to be difficult as if she wasn't before!

The little feud between Frank and Toofer was amusing as well, they have great jokes in it.

And Celeste wants to come out with their relationship, but Jack had second thoughts. The scene where he tells it to his colleagues is pretty funny, although I have seen a similar one on Friends. I am looking forward to see more, the whole jack dating a democrat is a pretty funny idea

"Oh, and in '84, I voted for Reagan!"

Secrets and Lies is a freaking great 30 Rock episode for its combination of three elements: Jane Krakowski, Tracy Morgan and Alec Baldwin. Oh, and Tina Fey's desperate attempts to keep everyone happy.

Th first problem emerges when Jenna receives a (fake) award for starring in a "movie based on a musical based on a movie" (that happens to be a real movie, the 2005 remake of The Producers - which she doesn't appear in - starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, both of whom appeared in the show during either the first or the second season) and Tracy gets jealous, prompting Liz to stage an award show just for him, which in turn causes Jenna to think Liz is favoring Tracy over her. In the meantime, Jack and C.C., still seeing each other, are thinking of going public about their relationship, but Jack, always the die-hard Republican, has some doubts about how his peers will react.

Any time Tracy or Jenna argue with Liz is, by itself, a perfect excuse for at least ten minutes of good comedy. That they both do it in this episode means there's twice as much fun to be had, although is has to be said Morgan's OTT insanity will always be a tad more amusing than Krakowski's more controlled madness. And then there's Baldwin and Falco, mixing sweetness and outright hilarity in what instantly qualifies as a comedy of manners par excellence. The last time a romantic subplot was this clever and witty was in Frasier, so perhaps it's no coincidence 30 Rock is the first sitcom since Kelsey Grammar's finest hour to win the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series two years in a row (Frasier actually won five in a row; we'll see how Rock will fare in due time).

Lies and secrets

Warning: Spoilers
I loved the fake award for Tracy, and the lengths Liz went to ensure it went off without a hitch! Anyway, Edie Falco guest stars again as CC, a liberal democratic politicians who dates Jack, and all is revealed at the end when Jack confesses his relationship to his peers in the executive dining room.

It's easy to forget that 30 Rock debuted along with Aaron Sorkin's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip at the same time, and both on NBC. The conventional wisdom is that only one would survive the first season, and it was 30 Rock and the rest is history.
