At one point, David, one of Lytton's assistant, gets a phone call from someone called "Alan", asking if they're interested in the news that film producer David Puttnam wants to become a Member of Parliament for the Social Democrat Party. When Lytton says no, David rings off, saying "Love to Annie" as he does so. This suggest the caller is film director Alan Parker, a famous rival of Puttnam's (though he often called him "my best friend"), whose wife at the time was called Annie. In the same mid-80s period, Parker was famous for saying that Puttnam only became interested in the SDP because he thought the initials stood for "Sir David Puttnam". Both Parker and Puttnam were subsequently knighted, and Puttnam was also ennobled.
The first episode of this series in which the much-mentioned owner of the newspaper, Wayne Monroe (aka "the Rabid Dingo") actually appears.
