On the 9th day of Creepmas, the aliens and tech run amok to stuff the socks with horror. Science fiction’s broad umbrella covers everything from the future to outer space to alternate realities via technology. The unexplored terrain and concepts within sci-fi provide fertile ground for horror; what’s scarier than the unknown? Even worse, what happens when sci-fi horror invades the holidays? Sometimes, it means one bleak holiday. For other movies, it yields zany results.
The 12 Days of Creepmas continues on Bloody Disgusting, this time with 9 sci-fi horror movies that get a bit wild with the yuletide theme.
Keep track of the 12 Days of Creepmas here.

As KillHer opens, Mattie is just days away from getting married and her best friend Eddie has planned a camping trip for the bachelorette weekend. That doesn’t sit well with Jess and Rae who feel like they’ve been pushed aside since Mattie and Eddie became friends.
Also somewhere in the woods is Jagger, Mattie’s fiance. The idea being that they’ll surprise him and his buddies by setting up camp next to them and having a party weekend. Of course, if they’d seen Slashlorette Party they might have reservations about combing the bride and groom’s weekends. And they certainly have some reservations after they set up their tent next to what they think is Jagger’s tent. Only to...

Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill is an arena-rock idealist, a firm believer in the undying power of setting up shop at the 50-yard line of rock & roll expectations and doing very brisk business. “Like in a mainstream melody / Oh, I want to take you in!” he told us on the Kings’ last album, 2016’s Walls, a subtle come-on that was a pretty fair assessment of why his band’s music hit home with millions.
So, what do these Tennessee titans do in times like these, when there aren’t any arenas to be rocked?...

The week of Nov. 9 was the first time in this disrupted TV season that ratings stalwarts “This Is Us” and “Grey’s Anatomy” clashed at the top of the Live+7 charts.
For that particular week, both series added a 1.2 ratings point, with the ABC medical show narrowly coming out the winner at a 2.6 rating to the NBC drama’s 2.5 rating. The two shows were easily the biggest gainers after seven days of delayed viewing, as “Chicago P.D.” and “The Good Doctor” both added a 0.8 to end with a 1.8 and a 1.4 respectively.
“The Masked Singer” and “The Bachelorette” tied the unscripted race, both finishing with a 2.2 rating in Live+7.
In terms of total viewership, “This Is Us” and “Good Doctor” both added 4.3 million viewers, as the former ended with a week-topping 11.1 million. NBC held the top four non-football places for the week, with the three “Chicago” dramas all managing over 10 million pairs...

“This Is Us” and “The Masked Singer” have resumed their battle at the top of the delayed viewing charts.
For the week of Oct. 26, the NBC drama managed to come out on top with its season 5 premiere. From a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49 in Live+Same Day, “This Is Us” grew 64% to a 2.3 rating, narrowly seeing off “Masked Singer” at a 2.1 rating. The Fox singing series got the better of “This Is Us” in the delayed charts once all was said and done last season, so it remains to be seen which of the two will emerge victorious in the 2020-21 season.
After those two, a couple of ABC shows in “The Conners” and “The Bachelorette” grew their audiences by a 0.4 rating, with the former ending up at a 1.8 and the latter at a 1.2.

Admit it: running through a store with your best friend and sliding groceries into a cart to win thousands of dollars has been your dream since you were a little kid. Now that ABC's Supermarket Sweep has been revived, this time with host Leslie Jones, your dream can become a reality! After binge-watching the first few episodes, the next logical step is to apply to be on Supermarket Sweep yourself, obviously.
If you want to be one of the three teams of two competing on Supermarket Sweep for a $25,000 or $100,000 cash prize, then you have to do a little bit of work first. You and your partner must both fill out a Supermarket Sweep Casting Application online. The application has a few eligibility requirements, such as your age (you must be at least 18 years old), US residency, etc.
From there, fill out some basic details about yourself, just like you would any job interview.

Updated Friday, July 31 with changes made to Fox’s Monday and Tuesday schedules.
Due to continuing questions about when and how production will ramp again amid the pandemic, broadcast networks started rolling out their new fall schedules later than usual this year.
But by mid-June, ABC, NBC, Fox, CBS and The CW all released their upcoming slates — though a few changes have been made to those plans in recent weeks thanks to more Covid-related delays.

ABC is the fifth and final broadcast network to announce its fall plans, and it's a relatively stable schedule.
Instead of bringing in pandemic-proof programming like Fox and The CW, the network is following the lead set by CBS and NBC and will air bring back original content in the fall.
That's not to say there will be no changes, however.
The Bachelorette, which was set to launch in May, has officially been bumped to the fall, meaning that ABC thinks it will be able to complete production in the next few months.
It will air on Tuesdays this time, for two hours each week, leading into the Katheryn Winnick-fronted The Big Sky.
This move also means that the Tuesday comedy line-up has been pulled, and forcing The Conners to a new night.
It is inheriting the slot previously held by Modern Family on Wednesdays, and will lead-in to...

The Bachelorette is breaking up ABC’s Tuesday-night comedy block.
The Alphabet network unveiled its new fall lineup on Wednesday (the last of the five broadcast nets to do so), and the key headline is that the latest season of The Bachelorette — bumped from summer due to the coronavirus pandemic — will replace ABC’s traditional two-hour sitcom lineup on Tuesday. This marks the first fall schedule in 10 years that ABC will not have any sitcoms on Tuesday.

ABC is joining CBS and NBC in unveiling a “regular” fall 2020 schedule with a lineup featuring new and returning series that are yet to be filmed when production could resume following months of Covid-19-related shutdown.
Like CBS and NBC, ABC is being conservative with few scheduling changes. Still, they are the biggest we have seen for a traditional fall schedule this year.
ABC has the most new series laughing in the fall, David E. Kelley’s drama Big Sky, Kari Lizer’s comedy Call Your Mother and the Supermarket Sweep reboot starring Leslie Jones.
The scheduling moves include the relocation of Tuesday 8 Pm anchor The Conners to Wednesday to take over the 9 Pm tentpole position vacated by Modern Family.
ABC is going from three comedy blocks and 10 half-hour series on the fall 2019 schedule to one block and four comedies next fall, with black-ish held for midseason for the first time,...

Life is full of great mysteries. Who was the 3rd gunman on the grassy knoll? Is the shroud of Turin really the burial wrap of Jesus Christ? Why did Warner Brothers give Ben Rock's kick-ass alien flick the shitty title of Alien Raiders? We may never know.

"The function of life is survival."
Whether you love the works of best-selling author Stephenie Meyer or not, there's no denying the incredible influence her Twilight series of books, and the movies based on them, has had on the horror genre and vampires, in particular. Meyer's tale of the star-crossed lovers Edward and Bella transformed the concept of vampires as unholy, unclean monsters to be feared and reviled into beautiful, tragic creatures capable of undying love. And, if the new movie based on one of her books, The Host, is successful, Meyer might well accomplish the same thing with alien invaders that she accomplished with vampires, ushering in a new wave of romantic alien possession movies.

Until then, we are left with the legacy of the invading lifeforms that want to take over our bodies and minds in alien possession movies being the stuff of nightmares, rather than of fairy tales: malevolent,...

Now this one sounds really tasty. Deadline is reporting that "Sons of Anarchy" creator and showrunner, Kurt Sutter, is teaming with John Shiban ("Supernatural," "The X-Files," "The Vampire Diaries,", Alien Raiders) to bring some new horror to the FX network.
"Lucas Stand," will be a dark action/horror drama series based on an idea by Sutter. The new series will feature both episodic and serialized elements. It follows the salvation quest of a damaged former special ops soldier, who has been chosen to traverse time and place to hunt down and kill Hell’s law-breaking demons.
Yep, all over this one. Look for more on this one as soon as it comes, kids.

The supermarket is one of the centers of the community. It's a place where neighbors go to buy their groceries while catching up with each other. They exchange stories, laughs and gossip in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere. That's a nice picture, but unfortunately it's not always the case in reality.
In fact, as we get further and further from the "Leave it to Beaver" era, the supermarkets we visit are usually "superstores" and almost never owned by a member of the community anymore. But maybe there is something to be said for a place where you can go to buy a pound of baloney, a prom dress and get an oil change all in one stop…and we wonder why "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" is the hottest show on television. Save us from the superstore.
This leads us to Bait 3D (review here). This all-new horror film hits DVD...

Post-holiday blues got you down? Suffering from the Sunday night back-to-work shakes? Why not settle in for the night and allow your goodly host Buz "Danger" Wallick to treat you to another helping of his Same Shit, Different Show. It'll make everything better. Promise!
This week's episode features an interview with the writer/director of one of my favorite direct-to-video horror flicks of the past five years, the unfortunately titled Alien Raiders. Ben Rock joins Buz for some fast and furious industry chatter that leaves virtually no stone unturned when it comes to genre filmmaking.
Head on over to Buz's Same Shit, Different Show website (that's .biz, fyi) and dig it. This is a good one, as they've all been thus far. And if you haven't heard them all yet, do give 'em a listen.

Welcome back to the last installment of Dread Central’s look back at the 25 milestones that shaped the landscape of independent horror filmmaking over the last 100 years. I apologize for the delay on the last five milestones as I had no idea just how busy I’d be while in Austin covering the South by Southwest Film Festival (which also champions the independent spirit of filmmaking most of the time) so I am glad to be back now and have the opportunity to pay homage to these last five moments in indie horror history.
We’ve already celebrated 20 milestones through 1987, and today we start in 1999 with one of the most innovative independent modern horror films that not only acted as a game changer in the horror genre but also was one of the first movies to effectively use the Internet as a marketing tool.

My introduction to writer/director Ben Rock came when I interviewed him for his 2009 highly-underrated flick Alien Raiders, which took themes from Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Thing and combined them with a little bit of “24” for good measure (hard not to when the film’s star is Carlos Bernard). Last year I had the opportunity to experience Rock’s work in the realm of live theatre with his twisted play Ba’al and quickly realized he’s someone who has an interesting perspective when it comes to genre-related projects.
I recently caught up with Rock, who's been busy working on content for a recent big-name video game release, to find out what his top five independent horror films are. Check out his favorites below!

First, the raw numbers: this is director and writer Gareth Edwards’ first feature, the movie cost a purported $15,000, internationally speaking the film has grossed over 1.5 million dollars, this is the one film you need to see this fall.
One of the spectacular aspects of a movie that is labeled sci-fi even though we only really glimpse the science of the fiction at the very beginning and then near the end which, really, is the crowning achievement of this little film that could, is that this movie exists at all. Actor Scoot McNairy, last seen in the very sweet and gentile film In Search of a Midnight Kiss, and his co-star Whitney Able are essentially starring in a film where...

The second annual Reaper Awards descended onto the historic Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood on Tuesday, October 12th, in high fashion as the hotel was packed to celebrate the best horror titles released over the last year on DVD and Blu-Ray.
The Reaper Awards were hosted by Dread Central’s own fearless leader, Steve “Uncle Creepy” Barton, and the awards themselves (The Grimmys) are given out as part of a collaborative effort between Dread and Home Media Magazine to put the spotlight on genre titles which mainstream award shows generally overlook.
On hand for the Reaper Awards was a proverbial “Who’s Who” in the horror genre, including director Darren Lynn Bousman (Mother’s Day), actor Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects), iconic director Tom Holland (the original Fright Night), director Adam Green (Hatchet II), actress Rileah Vanderbilt (Hatchet II), director Neil Marshall (Centurion), actress Axelle Carolyn (Centurion), director Declan O...

Did you miss us? We have returned after a lengthy hiatus brought on by scheduling conflicts and a technical meltdown that erased the last Dinner For Fiends, and what a loaded program we have for you! Finally, the first Dff of 2010, and being that we're nearly three months into the new year, that means there is a lot of ground to cover and still find time for the usual off-topic nonsense.
Andrew and Buz couldn't make it so this edition should prove quite popular in Mexico. Instead you can smell what Ben Rock is cooking; the Alien Raiders filmmaker joins us for this edition. The always salty Uncle Creepy, Matt "Can we get this over with because 'Lost' is on in an hour?" Fini, and yours truly, the Foywonder, round out the roundtable of fiends.
Expect spoiler-filled discussions of Daybreakers, The Wolf Man, Legion, The Crazies, and especially Shutter Island.

Last weekend Dread Central decided to get a bit of culture and headed over to Sacred Fools Theater to check out film/TV/viral director Ben Rock's (Alien Raiders) intense new project, Baal.
Based on the 1918 story by Bertolt Brecht, Baal is the trippy little story about a destructive and alcoholic poet named Baal (played by Gregory Sims) who destroys anything and anyone in his path. Baal has no issue with seducing friends' wives and girlfriends, deflowering young teenage girls, and drinking himself into a stupor on a regular basis. The world is for Baal's taking, no matter what the cost.
While not necessarily horror, the ramifications of Baal's downward spiral into excess are quite horrific as he manages to leave a body count in his wake. The reinterpretation of Brecht's story by Peter Mellencamp is bold, startling, and devastating. When the play finishes, you can...

There are very few places darker and more terrifying than the recesses of the human mind and the buried wickedness that resides there. Sometimes these feelings and notions seep out into the real world despite our best efforts to keep a handle on them, and that, dear friends, is the essence of psychological horror. Get ready to meet Baal, a new play from Ben Rock.
Rock will be bringing this creepy tale of a very disturbed man to the stage from January 15th to February 20th, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. Check out the trailer for the play and click on the image below for more details, watch a couple of more teaser videos, and of course to buy tickets.

2009. It was pretty much as crappy a year for horror movies as it was for the economy. There were, however, some really high points to help balance out all the drivel that was put out there in theatres as well as on home video, and they are to be celebrated, even though technically a couple of them are not even from this year.
Pull up your chair, sit back, and strap yourself in for a look back at the dos, the don'ts, and of course the "Doh!"s of this past year.

Phobia Friday: Arachnephobia or Arachnophobia- Fear of spiders. We caught up with Alien Raiders Director Ben Rock at the Reaper Awards and talked about his new genre project, Mile 15. FEARnet: Can you talk about any genre projects you're working on? Ben Rock: Right now, I'm working on a script with a writer called Mile 15. It's called Mile 15 and it's a father with a 10 month old baby on a bypath being chased by a serial killer in a car. It's all action, very little dialogue. Very stripped down… In real life, what's your greatest fear? My greatest fear would probably be spiders. I'm not into the spiders. When I was in...

Science fiction and horror go together like peanut butter and chicks with huge boobs, meaning that both are totally awesome and are great on their own but put them together and you've got a nice little Saturday planned. When I heard about Alien Raiders I wanted to rush right out and snag it, but because I'm lazy. I waited and waited and waited and just now got around to finally reviewing. Was it worth the wait? Read on. Alien Raiders follows a group of scientist ass-kickers (more common than you'd think) who are on the hunt for people infected with a race of parasitic aliens. They're hot on the trail of the King, the one responsible for spreading around all his little demon seeds. If they can take him out, they can stop the threat. In doing so, the group has staged a violent take over of a small town grocery store where they believe the alien...

At 2008’s H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, the Best Feature Audience Award—and the lion’s share of the acclaim—went to Alien Raiders, a scrappy little $2 million HD horror film that never mentions Lovecraft or any of his creations. Like many of the features that play the annual fest, Alien Raiders is more about capturing the feel of Lovecraft’s work—the intrepid but out-of-their-league investigators facing a vast unknown, the battle against vast, powerful, and above all indifferent creatures—and transporting it into the present day. With that inspiration and aesthetic in mind, Alien ...

Chicago – Oscar madness has left the Round Up a little weary of high profile, award-bait movies. We need a break from the Oscars and what better way to do that than with a few titles that might have slipped through the cracks while everyone was singing “Jai Ho”.

With the sci-fi genre really digging deep these days for cheap thrills and gore fest styles instead of interesting stories with decent quality, it's hard to find something worthwhile to put your money into. Considering most sci-fi flicks are so mediocre they end up on the sci-fi channel, you'd be hard pressed to say that the genre itself isn't in the crapper. The average sci-fi flick gives us aliens, mystical creatures or a giant ass snake coming to tear the world apart and only 5 soldiers, 1 reporter and an unlucky camera man standing in their way. I just gave you a premise to about 80% of the crappy sci-fi films of today. Example, Alien Abduction and Manticore. Boosh...
In the light of that, we have a new look at aliens and heroes in a somewhat typical setting in Alien Raiders. The question you must ask is "can it be pulled off?" I'm...

Oscar night is two days away, but we’ve got a fearsome celebration of our own planned for Fangoria Radio! Tonight’s show (airing on Sirius Xm Stars satellite radio, Sirius channel 102/Xm channel 155, from 10 p.m.-1 a.m., with a repeat immediately after), hosted by Debbie Rochon and Fango editor Tony Timpone (sitting in for Dee Snider) welcomes one of Sunday’s nominees, plus a horror veteran and a pair of up-and-comers:
• Mike Elizalde will hopefully be honored at the Academy Awards for his work on Hellboy II: The Golden Army (pictured), and will discuss making up its many monsters and what he’s got coming next
• Bill Moseley certainly wins the prize for hardest-working actor in the fright biz; he’ll tell us about his many upcoming fear films, including Dead Air, Babysitter Wanted and Blood Night
• Director Ben Rock is winning raves for Alien Raiders, his...

I'll confess to being in the dark as to why certain DVDs don't boast an audio commentary by the filmmakers when they actually want to do one, so while I won't strike out blindly against The Studios for getting in the way, I instead admire those who see fit to give their fans what they want.
Case in point: Following in the footsteps of Darren Aronofsky and The Fountain, director Ben Rock and some of his cast and crew members have come together for a full commentary track, now posted over on Dread Central to accompany this week's release of Alien Raiders. The film -- which, and I think Ben will agree with me, is nothing like The Fountain -- concerns a team of specialists (led by none other than 24's Tony Almeida) who lock down a small-town supermarket for reasons that you may be able to deduce from that...

**Note: This will be on top for a bit; new updates will be below!** Here at Dread Central we try and bring you goodies no one else can or will, up to and including asking filmmakers to do things just for us. Usually this means sending us a pic or two from their film that no one else has, but when we saw that Ben Rock’s excellent Alien Raiders was going to hit DVD without a commentary track from its director, we set out to do something about it.
And do something we did! Rock was more than happy to sit down with the film’s composer, Kays Alatrachki, and star Tom Kiesche to discuss how the film was made and how much fun they had making it exclusively for Dread Central readers! You’re not going to find this commentary anywhere else (unless Warner Bros. decides to include...

Wow, this week we have a veritable cornucopia of genre film dropping. First off is the [Rec] remake Quarantine which I personally enjoyed more than the original. I mean, that camera bashing the head in scene? Awesome! Then we have the (hopefully not) last in the Feast trifecta, Feast 3: The Happy Finish which is hands down a great series, see it. Next we have the long awaited Midnight Meat Train (review here) adapted from Clive Barker's story of the same name, and while this may have had a sordid history in getting a release, it's still worth watching. Then we have the surprisingly good (but badly titled) Alien Raiders which we all enjoyed (review here). Then we have Screamers 2: The Hunting which I know agentorange is looking forward too. Last but not least is the f***ed up genre favorite Ex Drummer out of Belgium which you should really check out.
