‘Repo Men’ Green Band Trailer

Just a couple of days before Christmas last year (it’s weird we can say “last year” about 2009, isn’t it?) a new red band trailer for the sci-fi/action-thriller Repo Men appeared online. The film hadn’t really appeared on our radar until that point but from some of the bloody and intense action sequences, along with a cool storyline and a great cast, the film is now one I’m keeping an eye out for.
In an odd reversal of the usual order, the red band trailer dropped weeks before the green band, but we now have the latter for you to enjoy. Naturally it takes out most of the explicit stuff from the red band, and by that I’m particularly referring to the amount of blood shown on-screen. In that way this trailer hides the film’s true identity, even though it’s understandable why they

Thunder Peak Publishing announced a new face in the horror genre with the launch of the Jason Dark: Ghost Hunter character.
Jason Dark, a fearless and resourceful ghost hunter, follows in the mold of Sherlock Holmes combined with Randall Garrett's Lord D'Arcy. Written by Guido Henkel, the designer who brought Germany's famed Das Schwarze Auge series to computer screens.
"I've always been a fan of the classic horror films from Universal Studios and Hammer Films," says Henkel. "I wanted Jason Dark to hearken back to those elegant thrillers, but also speak to our hi-tech generation, not only with his adventures but how fans can access them."
The first adventure in the Jason Dark: Ghost Hunter series is entitled "Demon's Night" and is available

Hollywood superstar Robert Downey Jr wants to visit India, but not with a motive to make a film here — which seems to be the buzz word for Hollywood now. “I would love to visit India, maybe go trekking on the mountain ranges of Himalayas,” says the latest Sherlock Holmes.
He has also “heard about the Indian film industry”. “I have watched a couple of Indian films but am really sorry I don’t remember the actors’ name,” says Downey Jr. The Iron Man-actor has also seen the multiple Oscar-winner Slumdog Millionaire. “I think it was

Richie Goes Victorian: Sherlock Holmes Review

Robert Downey Jr. has already portrayed comic book character Tony Stark in the recent adaptation of Iron Man (the second instalment is due in cinemas this summer), now he is going for the big-guns and bringing literatures most famous detective to the screen. Behind the camera is Guy ‘Lock Stock’ Richie. An unusual choice for bringing Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s character to 21st Century audiences? Maybe. Especially after flops such as Revolver, one may be entitled to look on with some suspicion. However the results are, although certainly not perfect, undeniably fun.
Downey Jr. is excellent as Mr Holmes, his fast talking manner fits perfectly with Sir Conan Doyle’s creation. Like his portrayal of Tony Stark, Downey Jr. oozes charm and wit as the womanising lead and it is clear that he seems to carry off these roles within his sleep. His incarnation of Holmes is someone who is,

Leap Year
Thanks to a Bing search Leap Year is the number one movie on the site at the moment and I would love to be there when the interested masses see this movie. It is awful. It's one of those films Manhola Dargis sharpens her knives over, take for example this line from the synopsis: "Investing in an Irish tradition that allows women to propose to men on February 29th, Anna decides to follow her boyfriend Jeremy (Adam Scott) to Dublin and get down on one knee herself." All the ladies in the audience, what do you think about the convenience of a day that comes around once every four years that allows you to propose to a man? Pretty snazzy deal eh? Just remember, to take advantage of it you have to fly to Dublin to do it. For the full report check out my review fo the film right here.

The king of the world is the king of the world again...
James Cameron's "Avatar" is now officially the second highest grossing film ever! As predicted, the sci-fi epic passed "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" Wednesday, bringing its worldwide total gross to an amazing $1.13 billion!
After delivering a solid performance earlier this week, "Avatar" bagged another $6.9 million domestically Wednesday, lifting its North American total to $374.4 million. Despite new releases this Friday, the film should still end up scoring another big weekend.
Still following in second place was "Sherlock Holmes," which earned $2.3 million Wednesday for a domestic total of $146.6 million. At No. 3, "It's Complicated" picked up $1.5 million, reaching a cume of $63.9 million after two weeks in release.
This weekend's releases include "Youth in Revolt," "Leap Year" and "Daybreakers." They all open wide, and while one or two may do relatively well at the box office,

#1 movie predicted correctly: 10 Weeks in a Row
1. Avatar
The Dark Knight and Return of the King come to mind when you're talking about movies that have taken four weekends in a row (oh, and that Titanic movie). That's good company. I'm predicting a 37 percent drop, finally breaking the streak of not dropping double digits.
I should mention The Grinch took four weekends in a row too, but I'm not sure how I feel about that one anymore. It's been a long time.
Estimate: $42.7 million
2. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel
My top twelve of the weekend are set to gross $159m, down from last weekend's $209m. That's a 24 percent drop. Last year the second weekend in January only dropped two percent. So am I too high? Too low? I suppose I should have saved this portion for the end.
Estimate: $22.2 million
3. Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock stands at $233m worldwide, though

'Sherlock Holmes' is Slightly Disappointing

'Sherlock Holmes' is slightly disappointing. Reel Empire's Adam Azoulay recently checked out the Guy Ritchie directed picture that's a reboot to several "Sherlock Holmes" movies that date clear back to the 1900's. The picture stars Robert Downey Jr. (Sherlock Holmes), Jude Law (Dr. John Watson) and Rachel McAdams (Irene Adler).
I admit; I have never read a single Sherlock Holmes book. Sorry if I have alienated myself to you, but I couldn’t in good conscience write a review without saying so. The fact is that Holmes is such an iconic character that I still feel reasonably certain I can criticize a movie about him without any knowledge of the source material. I have seen many a movie (The Hounds of the Baskerville, Young Sherlock Holmes, Without a Clue, The Great Mouse Detective, etc), or even general pop culture references to Sherlock Holmes, so why not? Let’s do this thing.

Sherlock's movie success harkens back to Brett's glory days

The new action-oriented reboot of Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey, Jr. is making a killing at the box office -- and rightfully so. It stays true enough to its source material while injecting just enough quirky energy into Holmes' world to update the franchise.
But, here's hoping the movie's success leads some folks back to rediscover the single greatest production of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's short stories -- the Granada and PBS Sherlock Holmes series of the 80s.
To most Holmes fans, Jeremy Brett (right) was the perfect actor playing the role he was born to fill. He had the look, the voice and the mannerisms most readers envisioned when reading "The Red Headed League" or "The Speckled Band."

2009 was a great year for going to the movies-regardless of if you were a 12 yr old girl, or an awkward man in your late 20's like myself. Long anticipated movies like Avatar, Where The Wild Things Are, and Fantastic Mr. Fox came and delivered strongly, along with some unexpected suprises like District 9 & The Brothers Bloom. I'm still beating myself up over a few films that I missed in the year: namely Moon (which Dave and Don swear by), Precious, The Road, and The Hurt Locker. But overall-this has been an awesome year for movies. I'm excited to see what the Acadmey Awards hold, as well as what is coming in 2010.
10. The Brothers Bloom
With The Brothers Bloom, Rian Johnson skillfully took the next step in his cinematic career. Leaning on the character development patterns he used in Brick, he also managed to inject humor and fun in this go round.

With the UK still under a blanket of snow (according to top site, Star Wars Weather, Boxwish’s corner of the country is enduring conditions comparable to those on Hoth, the ice planet – “cold, ice, freezing desolation”), summer can seem like a million years away. And yet we can’t help but look forward with great excitement to the big screen blockbusters the sunshine will bring, and one of our most anticipated is Iron Man 2. Robert Downey Jr., currently to be seen as Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie’s fun crime mystery of the same name, was fantastic as the superhero lead in the 2008 hit smash and the sequel promises to be just as much fun. And now that this comic book franchise is well and truly established, we expect a number of companies to slog it out to sign tie-in deals. And one such lucky brand is Penguin Children’s Books,

Bummed you're not one of the lucky few to have seen "Kick-Ass" already? Well, so am I. However, it looks like we'll have yet another chance to catch the film ahead of its April 16 release.
"Kick-Ass" will open this year's South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival, which runs March 12-20 in Austin, Texas. The film will premiere during the festival's 2010 opening night festivities.
“Kick-Ass is a truly fun ride, with non-stop action, clever humor, and even heart, which is exactly what our audience has come to love and expect from SXSW every year,” said Film Conference and Festival Producer Janet Pierson. “We feel fortunate to have found such a tailor-made good time to kick off our 2010 event!”
With mere months left until Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s comic book series hits theaters, updates have been flying around the 'Net. Fans have received a new "Kick-Ass" trailer,

Update: The screenwriters of GI Joe 2 have been exposed, and their names are Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers responsible for Zombieland and the upcoming Deadpool spinoff. Kurtzman and Orci, prepare to duel for the title of most prominent blockbuster writing duo.
This could mean great things for GI Joe 2, although I stand by my previous statements which follow.
Hate to break it to you: Stephen Sommers’ GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra was a lackluster to bad film that was unfairly lauded for being escapist fun simply because it was sandwiched so close to the release of the poorly received Transformers 2.
Channing Tatum was fine, but the rest of the film was monumentally stupid, and mostly not in an enjoyable way. Of course, that doesn’t stop the inevitable sequel from being upon us sooner than you realize.

There's been one more round of cuts for Academy Awards consideration in the Foregone Conclusion category...uh...I mean, Visual
Effects category. Sorry. To the amazement of no one, Avatar has made it to the semi-finals, and I can't imagine a scenario in which it does not
win this award.
Gone from contention are Angels and Demons, Coraline, A Christmas Carol, G-Force, G.I. Joe, Sherlock Holmes, Watchmen, and Where the Wild
Things Are. I would have thought Wild Things had a good chance, though. The field had been at fifteen films, and now it's seven. Three
movies will officially be nominees, and we'll find out which ones for sure on February 2nd.
However, outside of Avatar, the remaining films are District 9, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Transformers, and
2012. A little bit of handicapping gives me District 9, for best achievement in great lo-fi effects, and Star Trek,

Cameron is the king of the world. 'Avatar' races past 'Pirates' and closes in on 'Return of the King'
James Cameron's "Avatar" is fighting its way to the top of the list! Fox's action epic bagged another $7.3 million at the North American box office Tuesday, lifting its domestic total to $367.5 million after 19 days in release. Not bad!
In related news, "Avatar" also beat "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest." Cameron's flick is now No. 3 on the list of the worldwide highest-grossing films of all time. It is now closing in on "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King."
Believe it or not, but "Avatar" has scored $1.1 billion worldwide ever since its release. "Titanic" still holds the No. 1 spot with $1.8 billion. Not many believe the sci-fi adventure will beat the sinking ship, but who knows... anything is possible at this point.
Meanwhile, "Sherlock Holmes" added another $2.7 million Tuesday,
