Tiny Toon countdown
TheLittleSongbird12 July 2021
The premise was interesting, it is very interesting to see a top 10 countdown for anything, if not an original one. "Tiny Toon Music Television", for me a 'Tiny Toon Adventures' high point, also parodied music television and did it to a lot more inspired effect. Which is partly why my rating or review here for "Toon TV" isn't as strong. As a child though, the episode was still a good deal of fun even if some segments stuck out more than others. Just not one of my favourites.

It still isn't, from a young adult perspective, one of my favourites from 'Tiny Toon Adventures'. "Toon TV" still has a lot that is good, even excellent, and is a lot of fun, just that the not so novel concept could have been executed more imaginatively and with more consistency. "Tiny Toon Music Television" as already said does a better job with the subject of music and parodying it, though this episode is more in countdown form.

For my tastes "Toon TV" did feel somewhat incomplete as an episode, especially considering that there are only seven segments instead of ten. Which may have been solved if one or two were slightly shorter, like "Do You Love Me", or if the length was extended a little more by 5-10 minutes. "Toon Out, Toon In" was interesting enough conceptually but music style wise it was not my cup of tea.

Did feel too that the Sinead O'Connor parody was too brief and there is nothing on the same level of "Teacher's Apprentice" from "Tiny Toon Music Television".

Other segments though were very good, especially the Plucky-centric ones "Video Game Blues" (with the clever use of Tchaikovsky's 'The Nutcracker') and "Yakety Yak". Elmyra's was better than expected, as Elmyra is a bit hit and miss as a character on this show dependent on her variable material. Buster and Babs' chemistry is great as usual.

Animation is still vibrant and fluid, with "Video Game Blues" being particularly imaginative. The music is absolutely amazing and plays a big part in the episode's appeal, also a major reason for why it stands out. The wit is sharp and witty, with some clever wackiness in the Plucky-centric segments and Buster and Babs' character interaction.

Cannot fault the character writing or interaction nor the voice acting from the ever immensely talented voice actors.

Summing up, very well done if not amazing. 8/10.
