'Belonging to Laura' Begins Production

Shooting has begun on 'Belonging to Laura', a new 90 minute feature drama to be commissioned by TV3. Directed by Karl Golden (The Honeymooners) and produced by Martina Niland and David Collins for Accomplice Television, the production will be shooting on location in Enniskerry and Ballsbridge for three weeks. Director of photography for the project is Darran Tiernan (The Honeymooners). The cast includes; Christina Carty (Crystal Park), Brendan McCormack (The Daisy Chain), Gerard McCarthy (Hollyoaks), Aisling Bea (Fair City), Domhnall O'Donoghue (The Escapist) and Tatianna Ouliankina (Fair City). »

Michael Fassbender, Paddy Considine and Brian Cox will star in a movie adaptation of Sebastian Faulks's bestseller Birdsong. IFC Films just sent over the official poster for The Escapist, the British prison escape film from Sundance last year that stars Brian Cox, Damian Lewis, and Joseph Fiennes. This incredible little indie deserves as much as love as it can get, as it's truly a fantastic film full of great performances. It's one of my favorite films of last year, although it's only just hitting theaters this upcoming April. Not only did it make my list of the 19 Best Movies That You Didn't See but I ranked it as my #1 favorite film from Sundance that year. A brand new trailer from "The Escapist" has been released. Providing another take at the gritty drama thriller, the video footage exposes the reason behind Frank Perry's decision to find a way to get out from the jail he is currently held imprisoned. The trailer focuses on revealing his escape team and their attempt to escape.

"The Escapist" tells the story of a man who has come in term with his life sentence imprisonment. But, upon knowing that his only and beloved daughter is fighting for her life following an overdose, he knows that he has to see her and for that he has to escape. Preparing for the break out, he gathers a motley crew of younger associates. However, problems come when a young con James Lacey arrives. Now, Frank is forced to find the energy and courage of the man he once was.

IFC Obtains Us Rights to 'The Escapist'

Parallel Film's co-produced feature 'The Escapist', directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring Brian Cox and Liam Cunningham, has been picked up by IFC Films for Us distribution. The Escapist' - a tense prison escape thriller was shot in Dublin for four weeks in 2007 in various locations including Connolly Station and Kilmainham Jail. Cox (Troy) plays Frank Perry, a lifer, who discovers that his estranged daughter is sick and develops a plan to escape in order to make peace with her. - Sundance deals are still being drafted, negotiated and signed a little over a week past the wrap up date, but in the case of Rupert Wyatt's The Escapist -- Sundance is a very distant memory. IndieWIRE reports that IFC Films have come to the rescue – picking up the picture for an early April release. 2009 Evening Standard British Film Awards Announces Nominees

Hot on the heels of the 66th Golden Globe Awards celebration last Sunday, January 11, British newspaper Evening Standard announced the nominations of the 2009 Evening Standard British Film Awards. On Tuesday, January 13, it was made public that "Frost/Nixon", "Slumdog Millionaire", "Hunger" and "The Reader" are among those vying for the awards.

"Frost/Nixon" and "Hunger" were both up for the Best Film title along with Joanna Hogg-directed "Unrelated". The two had also secured a nod for Best Actor category, Michael Sheen for "Frost/Nixon" and Michael Fassbender for "Hunger". "Frost/Nixon", in addition, had collected a Best Screenplay gong for its scribbler Peter Morgan, while "Hunger" gave its editor Joe Walker a chance to win an award in the Technical Achievement field.
