- Cheng Zhi: [to Phillip, over the phone] You repair the circut board and return it to us, or there'll be serious consequences!
- Phillip Bauer: Now, you listen to me. I'm not afraid of you, Cheng. And the next time you threat at me, the consequences will be serious... but not for me.
- Phillip Bauer: [Over the phone] look, I'm sorry, I know you've been through a lot
- Josh Bauer: I'm sorry? A few hours ago you pointed a gun at my head and said you'd kill me
- Phillip Bauer: I would've never hurt you
- Josh Bauer: I heard you say it
- Phillip Bauer: I had to make sound convincing: to you and to Jack. Otherwise I wouldn't have gotten away but I wouldn't hurt you, not for anything
- Josh Bauer: What'd you want from me?
- Phillip Bauer: To protect you
- Josh Bauer: From what?
- Phillip Bauer: From your father's mistakes. If you stay here, they'll never let you forget what your father did. I'm taking you away from this ungrateful country: someplace we can both start over
- Josh Bauer: Where?
- Phillip Bauer: China. Within a decade, they will have surpassed this country in every possible way. We can be part of it. I'm going to give you the future I promised you when you were born
- Josh Bauer: I don't know what the hell you're talking about
- Phillip Bauer: No, I didn't think you would but you will. I'll explain everything when I see you. Right now all I need is for you to keep an "open mind"
- Karen Hayes: [after entering the Oval Office, while looking at her folder] I just got off the phone with the Pentagon and intel indicates the Russians are moving another mechanized divisions into the Central Asian theater
- Vice President Noah Daniels: So they're in striking distance of our base?
- Karen Hayes: Yes, our troops are at the highest level of alert. sir, Tom Lenox was suppose to be with me on the call and I couldn't find him or get him on the telephone: is there "something" going on that I should know about?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Tom is out in the field, running a classified "operation." He figured out who the "leak" was
- Karen Hayes: Who?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Lisa Miller
- Karen Hayes: Lisa Miller is spying for the Russians?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: No, the man Lisa's romantically involved with is. The last year this man Mark Bishop has been passing Lisa's emails to the Russians along with other things that she told him in confidence
- Karen Hayes: That's how the Russians knew the Chinese has the component?
- Karen Hayes: [after Daniels nods] does Lisa know?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: She does now. Tom sent her back to Bishop with a cover story with falsified emails. We're hoping we can convince the Russians that we've destroyed the circuit board before the Chinese can get it out of the country. With any luck, Bishop will forward those emails to the Russians, they'll back off, and that'll buy time for us to retrieve the component from the Chinese
- Karen Hayes: Well, I hope that works sir
- Vice President Noah Daniels: I know you wouldn't have wanted to be kept out of loop on this one but let me assure you it had nothing to do with you but everything to do with me
- Karen Hayes: I don't understand
- Vice President Noah Daniels: At the same time Lisa was with Bishop, she and I were in a relationship as well. Needless to say, I am ashamed
- Karen Hayes: Well sir, I think you're being a little hard on yourself: you and Lisa were both single and there was no way you could know what she was doing behind your back
- Vice President Noah Daniels: That's a question of "judgment." I trusted her and unless Tom's plan succeeds that mistake will bring us to war
- Tom Lennox: [while Bishop is in handcuffs] we have incontrovertible evidence you are spying for the Russians: we recordings of you on the phone with the agent "running" you. Do I have your attention?
- Tom Lennox: [after Bishop remains silent] alright so here it is: you are going to upload the emails from Ms. Miller's PDA to your players, additionally you are going to call your handler to back up the story these emails tell, naming our country destroyed the circuit board before it could fall into Chinese hands. Now if you comply, you can push for leniency in your sentencing, if you do not, and I can all but guarantee you the death penalty
- Ben Kram: [after showing her his credentials] I'm from Division, you should've received a flash memo alerting you of my arrival
- Nadia Yassir: Well, our systems are still down so we can't receive memos just yet
- Ben Kram: That's exactly why I'm here. I've been authorized to compile, account, and assess your security breach
- Nadia Yassir: Well, sir, we're right in the middle of a recovery operation and its 3 o'clock in the morning: this isn't the best time to be questioning my people
- Ben Kram: Frankly, I don't particularly care what you think
- Nadia Yassir: Excuse me?
- Ben Kram: This "incident" represents a serious breach in your security protocols, one that resulted in a number of CTU personnel. Obviously mistakes were made, "errors in judgment", not the least of which was of my accepting Bill Buchanan's recommendation to leave someone with your limited experience in charge. So, can I count on your full cooperation or not?
- Nadia Yassir: I never said otherwise
- Morris O'Brian: [Talking privately, referring to Ben Kram] this may not be my place, don't let this bugger from Division get to you: you're not responsible for what happened
- Nadia Yassir: Of course I'm responsible, it happened on my watch
- Morris O'Brian: There was nothing you could've done. Don't let them hang you out to dry
- Nadia Yassir: No, people are dead, Milo is dead because of me
- Morris O'Brian: That's ridiculous: there was nothing anyone could've done about him
- Nadia Yassir: I could've stood up, I could've said something
- Morris O'Brian: There was no time. Milo "jumped" in
- Nadia Yassir: There was time... I just "hesitated". I was just...
- Morris O'Brian: [Interrupts her] you were just afraid? Yeah I have a bit of "experience" with that. Look, I'm not one to give advice on how to handle self incrimination, but I know this: Milo was a brave man, he never would've sacrificed himself if he knew there are others to lay his death at your feet, and he wanted you to stay strong, stay in charge
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone] hey, it's me. Did they tell you Josh was safe?
- Marilyn Bauer: Yeah but that's all they'll tell me: what's going on? When can I see him?
- Jack Bauer: We should be back to CTU in the next few minutes. The Chinese were doing this for my father, they were trying to get Josh to him
- Marilyn Bauer: Are you sure?
- Jack Bauer: Yeah, Josh spoke to him
- Marilyn Bauer: What did he tell Josh?
- Jack Bauer: He said he wanted to take Josh back to China, that Josh was his legacy
- Marilyn Bauer: That's it? That's all he said?
- Jack Bauer: Yeah
- Marilyn Bauer: Can I talk to him?
- Jack Bauer: Of course, hold on one second
- Jack Bauer: [while giving him his cell phone] it's your mom
- Josh Bauer: Mom?
- Marilyn Bauer: Hey, are you ok? Did they hurt you?
- Josh Bauer: No, I'm alright
- Marilyn Bauer: I don't know what I would do if I lost you
- Josh Bauer: Uncle Jack, he saved my life
- Marilyn Bauer: I know, I love you so much
- Josh Bauer: [Before hanging up] I love you too, I'll see you soon
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Over the speakerphone] I'm here with Karen
- Tom Lennox: Yes sir, that information we planted for the Russians has been sent on to Bishop's contact
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Good, do you think it's made its way to Suvarov yet?
- Tom Lennox: I'm confident it has sir but I do think a call to the Russian president giving him the news ourselves that might strengthen your creditability of our story here
- Vice President Noah Daniels: I agree
- Tom Lennox: Sir, there is one other thing
- Vice President Noah Daniels: What's that?
- Tom Lennox: We had some "complications" and Lisa was injured in the operation
- Vice President Noah Daniels: How badly?
- Tom Lennox: Well, she experienced a loss of oxygen to the brain: we won't know the extent of the damages until she regains consciousness. She is on her way to the hospital
- Vice President Noah Daniels: How the hell did this happen?
- Tom Lennox: Sir, she attacked Bishop "suddenly" before we could even get in there: he almost strangled her to death
- Vice President Noah Daniels: And what were you doing during all this? You should've been watching her the whole time. Where was Secret Service?
- Tom Lennox: Sir, we did everything we could, it just "happened" too fast
- Tom Lennox: [Talking privately, to Daniels, referring to his cell phone] I've got a Philip Bauer holding for you on a scrambled line
- Karen Hayes: [Surprised] what? What does he want?
- Tom Lennox: I don't know: his in league with the Chinese, I think we need to hear him out?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [to Tom] put him on speaker
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Mr. Bauer
- Phillip Bauer: Thank you for taking my call Mr. Vice President
- Vice President Noah Daniels: What's this about?
- Phillip Bauer: I think you know what this is about
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Tell me anyway so there's no miscommunication
- Phillip Bauer: I want my grandson and I want a clear passage to a country of my choice. If you give me that, I'll give you the FB sub circuit board
- Vice President Noah Daniels: You're working with the Chinese
- Phillip Bauer: I was: they had their chance, they blew it
- Vice President Noah Daniels: How do I know you even have this component?
- Phillip Bauer: [while reading off the circuit board] the serial number is 3PTL3, check it on any records you have
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [after Tom shows him a schematic of the circuit from his PDA] do you realize what you're asking?
- Phillip Bauer: I'm offering you the opportunity of avoiding a conflict this country does not want: a war this country cannot afford, not after what's happened today. I'll send my instructions on an encrypted data stream
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Before Philip abruptly hangs up] Mr. Bauer...
- Karen Hayes: Sir, you are not seriously considering this. Philip Bauer is a federal fugitive, complicit in selling nuclear weapons to terrorists
- Vice President Noah Daniels: I know what crimes his committed
- Karen Hayes: Then how can you even entertain the thought of negotiating with him?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Because maybe we can't afford not to
- Karen Hayes: We are talking about trading the life of an innocent young boy
- Vice President Noah Daniels: We're talking about the lives of a lot more young men if we go to war with Russia
- Karen Hayes: And you think Philip Bauer is somebody we can trust? The man is a sociopath
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Asking for his opinion] Tom?
- Tom Lennox: He is a sociopath: she's right about that. Given the stakes, this is a risk worth taking sir
- Vice President Noah Daniels: None of this makes sense, everything we know about Suvarov tells us the man wouldn't risk a military engagement even for this piece of technology
- Tom Lennox: Unless his being squeezed
- Vice President Noah Daniels: By who? His cabinet?
- Tom Lennox: I don't know, the military. Gredenko was not the only anti-American general left over from the Soviet regime
- Karen Hayes: Yes, some of them are still in power and Suvarov does rely on them
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [to both of them] so you think these generals are looking for an excuse to pull the trigger?
- Tom Lennox: Well, it certainly sounds plausible sir
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Through video conference as Karen sits nearby] I have some good news to share with you
- President Yuri Suvarov: And what is this good news?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: We were successful in taking out the Chinese agent who was attempting to smuggle FB sub circuit board out of the country
- President Yuri Suvarov: Are you saying you have the component back in your possession?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: No sir, the sub circuit board was destroyed when we attacked the Chinese
- President Yuri Suvarov: I see, I assume you have proof of this?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Yes we do: in addition to fragments from the destroyed component, I'm prepared to give you images or documentation to assure you this threat's been neutralized
- President Yuri Suvarov: do you mean the same documentation you planted with one of my agents?
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Excuse me?
- President Yuri Suvarov: The same images you coerced him sending to my people: of a strike that accomplished nothing but destroying an empty building. Yes I know you exposed one of my operatives, I had him under surveillance, which is how I know about your raid on his apartment
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Mr. President...
- President Yuri Suvarov: [Interrupts him] now if the Chinese agent in possession of the sub circuit board is allowed to transfer it to his government, the entire Russian defense system will be compromised. I told you I would hold you and your government responsible
- Vice President Noah Daniels: I will not tolerate any threats from you: we're doing everything in our power to ensure this component does not reach China
- President Yuri Suvarov: I have already given you ample time to recover it. Now I am feeling less generous. If you do not deliver concrete and irrefutable proof to our embassy that you have recovered or destroyed this component within two hours, I will no choice but to extend my country's forward perimeter to compensate for our defensive vulnerabilities
- Vice President Noah Daniels: You are talking about attacking one of our military bases: now I would urge you to consider the consequences of that. We have just as many troops in that area, and allies will not look kindly upon any unprovoked aggression on my country
- President Yuri Suvarov: You and I both know it will not be unprovoked. This is a matter of survival for us, it is in both our interests that you get that component back: you have two hours
