Top Horror Bitch of the Year

23 hours ago | HorrorYearbook | See recent HorrorYearbook news »

What would a slasher movie be without it's requisite bitch? For every virginal good girl there must be her opposite number, the yin to her yang. In recent years many under-qualified nouveau 90210 wannabes have attempted to make a name for themselves in the pantheon of horror bad girls by flatly delivering lines in Valley Girl-esque tones and stomping around in stiletto heels. They have tried to place their names beside such luminaries as Wendy in Prom Night, Barb in the original Black Christmas, and Gail Weathers in Scream. They have tried, and they have failed. Miserably. This year there was one actress who took an overstuffed, convoluted, who-dunnit mess of a remake and it worth the price of admission. She came , she saw, and she stole the movie from the bland final girl the way only a good bitch can. Her name is Leah Pipes, also known as Jessica from Sorority Row. »

Exclusive Interview: Ming-Na (Stargate Universe)

4 December 2009 3:06 PM, PST | TVStar | See recent TVStar news »

Ming-Na is a sci-fi/horror/action/animation goddess. Okay, that's a bit extreme; we'll cop to that. But, even though most people connect her with the long-running series ER (TV) or maybe the films The Joy Luck Club or One Night Stand, consider her other credits: Terminal Voyage, Street Fighter, Mulan (she was the voice of the title character), Spawn, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, The Batman, Kingdom Hearts II, Prom Night, and Push. And now she's one of the stars of the latest Stargate adventure, Stargate Universe (TV). On Syfy's ensemble series, Ming-Na plays Camile Wray, who -- like her shipmates -- is stuck on a runaway alien spacecraft countless light years from home. "Justice," the mid-season finale of Sgu, will air tonight. PopStar recently chatted exclusively with Ming-Na about the show. During the interview, she previewed "Justice," talked in depth about her character -- who happens to be »

Idris Elba Joins the Cast of Kenneth Branagh's Thor as Heimdall

19 November 2009 9:54 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

So it looks like Marvel plans to continue to drop hints about what to expect storywise in the Thor movie by announcing more casting and giving us a taste of who the most important characters are. THR's Heat Vision reports today that Idris Elba has joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Thor. Elba will play Heimdall, the guardian of the mythical world of Asgard, who stands on the BiFrost Bridge ready to defend the city from intruders. Boy does he look like a badass guardian. But does this mean Asgard going to be attacked at some point in the movie? Is that the hint Marvel is dropping here? Any more revelations? Idris Elba previously starred in Obsessed, The Unborn, RocknRolla, Prom Night, American Gangster, and he also appears on "The Office". He's a fine actor and I'm glad to see him join this cast as well. I »

Uncle Bob Martin: A Long Thank-You to Frank, Part One

16 November 2009 4:05 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The first that I heard of Frank Henenlotter was on a perfectly awful cable tv show that aired on Manhattan's Public Access channel in the 1970s.

"The Nikki Haskell Show" was a self-indulgent half-hour cable show hosted by Haskell, a wealthy socialite-divorcee and former stockbroker who now claims that her show marked the invention of "reality television." About a year ago, after her diet pill company got in trouble with the NFL over a "secret ingredient" that should have been labeled, Haskell signed up for an account at YouTube and started posting clips from the 30-year-old program, but she seems to have lost interest after posting just ten of them.

The main reason I'd tune in Haskell's silly show was the programming that followed it, "adults only" programming like Screw magazine publisher Al Goldstein's "Midnight Blue," porn performer Robin Bird's "Hot Legs" show featuring New York's leading "dance talent" and, »

Composer Paul Haslinger Replacing Danny Elfman on Wolfman

9 November 2009 4:23 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Today Cinemusic, which follows everything regarding film soundtracks and scores, nabbed a disappointing scoop that composer Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, Milk) will no longer be composing the score for Joe Johnston's The Wolfman, and he will be replaced by Paul Haslinger (Death Race, Prom Night, Crank). While Cinemusic cites scheduling conflicts and even a rumor of problems with the film, our own inside source told us that not only has Elfman composed a finished score already, but that he's done at least a few different versions and that the studio doesn't like his score and wants to use another one instead. Word on the street is Elfman composed "a traditional, grandly gothic effort a la Kilar’s Bram Stoker's Dracula," but apparently it wasn't good enough. So as not to create an insecurity as to the quality of the film, however, there seems to be a certain amount »

Jamie Lee Curtis and moms everywhere think Halloween is too scary for kids. She's wrong.

Today on her Huffington Post Blog, Jamie Lee Curtis (best known to horror fans as the original Lori Strode in John Carpenter's Halloween, as well as the star of thr original The Fog, Prom Night and Terror Train), shows us she's actually very anti-horror on Halloween.

Her desire to 'tone down' the gore on halloween, especially when it comes to kids, just really gets my panties in a twisted, bleeding bunch.

"Halloween, the holiday, is a breeding ground for a seemingly unending gruesome gore fest," says Curtis. "Has it always been this way? I don't think so. I remember Halloween as a time to dress up in a costume other than myself. That was what was fun..."

"The fact that my film nemesis," she continues, "And if you ever see the forgettable Halloween 8, my subsequent murderer, Michael Myers (for the uninformed, he is the one in the gray jumpsuit and »
