Acting for Self

Warning: Spoilers
Sandy McGoggie is a career soldier now in civvy street.

A proud man, his dream has been to buy a house for his growing family.

Sandy has found a house he can just about afford in a new still to be built housing estate.

He has signed a contract, paid a deposit but found the house he planned to buy has gone to another buyer in a contract race.

Sandy has to stump up more to buy a neighbouring house. Later the developer increases the price of the new house.

The developer could do so because it said so in the contract. Sandy did not go to a solicitor when he signed the contract.

I guess Sandy was either too proud, too tight or just plain dumb for not going to a lawyer.

When he does go to see David Main it is too late.

Luckily Main feels sorry for Sandy. Main is also acting for another developer Frederick Owen (Patrick Troughton) who is planning to build an estate in a new piece of land.

There will be no doubt that Owen will come to the rescue. Indeed Sandy faces losing his deposit as his developer has gone bust and the receivers have taken over.

A solid but spectacular episode. It does highlight just how few consumer rights the ordinary person had back in 1972. Of course the same ordinary person will easily give them away if you label consumer rights as 'red tape.'

Bob Hoskins makes a brief appearance as a workman with a dodgy Yorkshire accent. It was then I knew Main would pull a rabbit out of his hat.
