Amy Adams resolves no resolutions

3 hours ago | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Amy Adams refuses to make New Year's resolutions. The 'Doubt' actress - who is expecting her first child with fiance Darren Le Gallo - says she won't make any promises to herself when she welcomes in 2010. She said: "I really haven't set any. I think what I came up with was to have no regrets because usually I set a resolution and I don't really follow through and then I have regrets. So this year, maybe no resolution. That's my resolution - to roll with it. I think this will be my year of just rolling with it." Amy also admitted she is slightly nervous about becoming a first-time mother but is looking forward to meeting her »

It’s Complicated

26 December 2009 3:06 AM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

It’s fair to say that rom-coms aren’t generally my thing. I’ve seen my share of them, and on the whole, I’m never usually impressed. In my experience, they are usually overly romantic and lack “actual” comedy. Writer/director Nancy Meyers has made a very successful career out of the rom-com genre. Films such as What Women Want, Something’s Gotta Give and The Holiday have all been lucrative. Her films are sweet and non-offensive. She is so successful at what she does that major stars all want a piece of the action. Jack Nicholson, Mel Gibson, Jude Law and Kate Winslet among others have jumped on the Nancy Meyers bandwagon. So as the old saying goes: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

With her latest film she has brought together the always brilliant Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin in a film »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Five

23 December 2009 10:10 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Hippie Hippie Shake

Opens: 2010

Cast: Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella, Emma Booth, Lee Ingleby

Director: Beeban Kidron

Summary: Follows the love story of Oz editor Richard Neville and Louise Ferrier. Neville and his cohorts launch the London edition of Oz amidst the 1960s counterculture and are subsequently put on trial for distributing a sexually explicit issue.

Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.

Actually the film scored quite a bit of free press for a skinny dipping scene where full-frontal shots of actress Sienna Miller shooting the sequence »

International Trailer: Leap Year

23 December 2009 6:47 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The new International trailer and UK poster (which is pretty much the same as the Us one with a different colour background) for Amy Adams’ new movie, Leap Year has just been released by Optimum Releasing. Leap Year is directed by Anand Tucker and also stars Matthew Goode and John Lithgow. I’ve put the new trailer below the synopsis and you can click the image above to enlarge. Leap Year is released 26th February.

Amy Adams (Sunshine Cleaning, Doubt, Enchanted) is a young woman who has an elaborate scheme to propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day, an Irish tradition which occurs every time the date February 29 rolls around. However she faces a major setback when bad weather threatens to derail her planned trip to Dublin. With the help of an innkeeper, however, her cross-country odyssey just might result in her getting engaged.

Actress Brittany Murphy died yesterday at the age of 32. She collapsed Sunday morning at her Hollywood Hills home. The coroner says they will conduct an autopsy Monday to try to determine what killed the actress. There are still upcoming films coming out from Murphy.

Abandoned … Murphy stars in this psychological thriller where she plays someone with a history of psychiatric issues who accompanies her boyfriend (Dean Cain) to the hospital for surgery, only to have him disappear without a trace. It was expected to be straight to DVD, now the producers are rethinking.

Something Wicked … Murphy stars as a psychiatrist in a thriller about two recent high school grads whose plans for a happy life together are shattered by parents who don’t want them to be together. The film is still being edited.

SAG Nominations

17 December 2009 3:10 PM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

The precursors have been squeezed into an unusually small period this year. The Globes, Bfca, Nyfcc, Lafca and SAG all announced in the space of one week. That's not business as usual. I guess this is one way to squeeze out all those regional critics groups because... who will care now? What does all this mean for Oscar? Generally clear consensus between the major precursors means that Oscar will be nearly a carbon copy. But with an unusual amount of time between the actors announcement and the announcement of Oscar nominations (Still more than a month away) it Might mean that Academy voters react to and against these lists, rather than along with them if you know what I mean. Do you know what I mean?

Poll: Who will win the SAG Award for best actress?

17 December 2009 11:54 AM, PST | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

Let's take a stab at predicting a winner among the Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations. Usually, SAG Awards nominees and winners line up, uncannily, with the Oscars, but sometimes they don't. Last year the five contenders for best actress almost matched up, with one glitch. Instead of being nommed for "The Reader," eventual Oscar champ Kate Winslet ended up making SAG's best actress list for "Revolutionary Road." She lost to Meryl Streep ("Doubt"). This year, the SAG five for best actress look like a good bet to repeat at the Academy Awards (unless "Young Victoria" star Emily Blunt can bump a front-runner), so maybe we'll be predicting the Oscar race too. But this poll focuses »

Meryl Streep reaches 25 Golden Globe nominations

With her double bids for lead actress in a comedy/musical ("It's Complicated," "Julie & Julia"), Meryl Streep solidified the record she set last year as all-time Golden Globe nominations champ. Beginning with a supporting nod in 1978 for "The Deer Hunter," Streep has amassed a staggering 25 Golden Globe bids over the years. Going into last year's Golden Globe race, Streep sat one nom behind Jack Lemmon who racked up 22 lead nods and 4 wins (movie drama — 0/6; movie comedy — 3/10; and TV movie/mini — 1/6) over 40 years beginning in 1960. Streep earned nods no. 22 and 23 for lead actress in a drama ("Doubt") and comedy/musical ("Mamma Mia!"). She lost »

PTA Chooses Philip Seymour Hoffman as his 'Master'

12 December 2009 6:25 PM, PST | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

I guess we're moving forward in time with the whole "I am a false prophet. God is a superstition" discourse. Paul Thomas Anderson must have liked Philip Seymour Hoffman take on the priesthood in Doubt, as he is putting his faith in him. Universal studios would be doing the same with a 35 million dollar faith based, period drama probably not of the Kirk Cameron kind, and despite the similarities in choice of year circa 1952, probably not the Jimmy Jones kind either. - I guess we're moving forward in time with the whole "I am a false prophet. Amy Adams will find out the sex of her unborn baby. The 'Doubt' actress - who is expecting her first child with fiance Darren Le Gallo - admits she is "too impatient" to wait for the child to be born before finding out whether she's having a boy or a girl. She told 'Entertainment Tonight': "I'm too impatient to wait for a surprise. We'll probably find out. I thought about waiting and I just don't think that's really my personality. It's not about planning a nursery, it's more about I just want to know. I want to be able to relate in that way. That's what works for me, but I totally believe in whatever works for the individual." Amy Adams to Star in Next Movie from The Road's John Hillcoat

30 November 2009 6:34 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Earlier today, JoBlo posted some interesting news regarding the next project from Australian director John Hillcoat, who helmed The Road and The Proposition. According to a newly released poster, the title of the project is The Promised Land. Shia Labeouf and Ryan Gosling are confirmed as cast members. However, Scarlett Johansson, who was also expected to star, is missing from the list. In her place is Amy Adams, who was nominated for an Oscar for her work in Doubt and most recently starred in Julie & Julia.

Nick Cave is adapting the screenplay from Matt Bondurant's novel The Wettest County in the World, which tells the story of a family of thieves and smugglers in Virginia during the Great Depression. The novel is based in part on the experiences of Bondurant's family.

While Labeouf and Gosling will likely play brother members of the "Bondurant Boys," it's unclear what Adams's role will be. »

Amy Adams' Ten Best Days

Amy Adams is turning producer on her next project. The breakout star of Junebug, who's since gone on to bowl us over in Julie and Julia, Enchanted and Doubt, is clearly fan enough of Adena Halpern's novel My Ten Best Days that she wants to oversee its journey to the screen. That or she knows a starring role when she sees one.The novel is set in the afterlife: specifically Heaven, which is structured into seven levels, of which the seventh is the most desirable (meaning you can eat what you like and never get fat). Main character Alex wants to stay there with her Uncle Morris and her grandparents, in a perfect house that never needs cleaning, but is in danger of being demoted unless she can provide evidence of having lived a worthwhile life. Hence her homework essay on her ten best days. Now, we're slightly bummed »

The Week in Film: Oscar Bait

12 November 2009 9:02 AM, PST | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Why, hello, folks! Another week means another week closer to December, which means it’s another week closer to Oscar bait movies. Aren’t you curious? I know you are, so let’s begin!

First up, we have 2012. It’s one of those natural disaster movies, but this time, on a global scale. The whole thing is based on the end of the world that in turn is based on the Mayan calendar. Expect super visual effects in the likes of things blowing up, giant tsunamis, raining meteors, skyscrapers collapsing, and Godzilla. Oh wait, scratch that last one.

Okay, sure this isn’t Oscar bait. But still, if you’re feeling like July in November, go for it! Oh, yeah, 2012 stars John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Oliver Platt, and Amanda Peet.

The second of the two wide releases this week is Pirate Radio. In the 1960s, a bunch of DJs went on a boat, »
