Rome-based sales agency Tvco has acquired worldwide sales to Igor Drljaca’s fourth feature “The White Fortress,” which world premiered this week in the Generation 14Plus strand of this year’s Berlinale.
Drljaca’s previous credits include several award-winning shorts such as “Woman in Purple” (2010) and “The Archivists” (2020), as well as his critically-acclaimed debut feature “Krivina” (2012), his sophomore film “The Waiting Room” (2015) and his first documentary feature, “The Stone Speakers” (2018).
The film is set in a rundown Sarajevo suburb and follows Faruk, an orphan who lives with his ill grandmother and spends his days foraging for scrap metal and dabbling in petty crime. One day he meets Mona, a timid teen from a politically powerful and affluent family. As Mona dreams of escaping the overbearing toxicity of her home life, she seeks refuge and opens herself up to Faruk, a boy from a world entirely different than her own. The...

In 2015, Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel stuck two fingers up at the film industry with the Paolo Sorrentino directed Youth. It proved to the whole industry just because you’ve reached a certain age doesn’t mean you’ve lost your talent or appeal to the movie going public. In fact over the last few years we have seen actors such as Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman and Robert De Niro all prove they are all digging their heels in and not going anywhere.
Now it’s time for the ladies to get in on the act with Golden Globe-winner Dame Joan Collins – who we last saw make an appearance in last year’s Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie – Oscar nominee Pauline Collins (The Last Dragon Slayer, Albert Nobbs) and Italian heartthrob Franco Nero (Django, Django Unchained) all starring in the upcoming feel-good comedy, The Time of Their Lives...

Hot on the heels of last night's indie-spirited Gotham Awards are today's nominations for Film Independent's 28th annual Independent Spirit Awards; the proverbial Oscars of Indie film.
In years past the Independent Spirit Award nominations have served as an indicator of future Oscar nominees, but we'll have to wait and see if that is the case for 2013, keeping in mind a few of the organization's key eligibility requirements: i.e. a film's budget cannot exceed $20 million and must have been made and distributed in America.
Check out the complete nominations list, announced by Anna Kendrick, Zoe Saldana and Common, after the jump!

The first major awards ceremony of the season, the Gotham Awards, was held last night in, of course, New York City, and while the main thrust of the ceremony is to honor indie filmmaking, the big winners could definitely impact the awards conversation for the Oscars.
Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom" took the top prize for Best Feature and one big step toward becoming a contender when Oscar time rolls around. For the last few months, the film starring Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, and Edward Norton has been just outside the race for a Best Picture nomination, but all that could change in the next coming weeks, depending on how the Gotham win is perceived.
Check out a complete winners list after the jump!

The 22nd Annual Gotham Awards took place Monday night, November 26 at Cipriani Wall Street and congratulations go to Wes Anderson and his Moonrise Kingdom crew as they took home the Best Feature award over films such as Richard Linklater's Bernie which is confusingly being pushed pundits all over the Internet and the much-buzzed about Middle of Nowhere from Ava DuVernay, which I just received a screener for today and will be diving into soon based on all the love it has received. As a matter of fact, a surprise winner in the Breakthrough Actor category comes in the form of Middle of Nowhere star Emayatzy Corinealdi. I say surprise only because Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quevenzhane Wallis is all anyone is talking about as the youngster is poised for an Oscar nomination, but perhaps this Gotham win may be the start of something bigger for Corinealdi, whom...

Nominations for this year's Gotham Independent Film Awards were announced Thursday with "Beasts of Southern Wild," "Bernie," and "Moonrise Kingdom" among the most nominated. In their 22nd year, the Gothams are the first major awards show of the season. The surprises among this year's nominees include the absence of festival favorites "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and "Silver Linings Playbook" from the Best Feature category. And though Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" was highly praised for its performances by Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman, the film only received a nomination for Best Feature. In addition to the awards, actors Marion Cotillard and Matt Damon, director David O. Russell, and Participant Media founder Jeff Skoll will be presented with a career tribute. The nominations for the 2012 Gotham Independent Film Awards are: Best Feature "Bernie" "The Loneliest Planet" "The Master" "Middle of Nowhere" "Moonrise Kingdom" Best Documentary "Detropia" "How to Survive a Plague...

Every time Ben Breedlove passed out from the heart condition that claimed his life on Christmas Day, he said it felt like he was in a "waiting room to heaven," according to one of his friends. It’S Over Prime
(A Transformer Slashfic)
Ryon ran up the steps to the studio. He was late, and his palms were sweating, that was never a good sign. But traffic had been backed up, and Mapquest had given him the wrong directions and some jackass in an orange and purple sports car kept cutting him off but the casting directors would understand and… It didn’t matter. The audition itself didn’t matter really. He should be concerned about his sides, but the only thing he could think of was her.
“Please be here” he whispered as he went through the Gi-normous revolving glass doors. The receptionist checked his ID and made him fill out a visitor’s card, and take a Polaroid.

Rochester, NY - Ever wonder why schools today stink compared to decades ago? Every think tank moron has their dubious reasonings that appeases their corporate masters. But the truth is extraordinarily simple: Schools dumped their education films.
Do you remember those days when the gym teacher had to pad out health class by wheeling in the 16mm projector from the Av department? They’d thread up classic tales about your body, narcotics, driving safety and manners. Things which kids nowadays can’t seem to handle.
When the Vcr arrived in schools, the 16mm projector was quickly dumped as teaching tool.
Where did these classic films go? Many arrived at the city dump. However a few lucky tens of thousands found themselves on the racks of the Av Geeks Archive. This repository of cinematic education is overseen by Skip Elsheimer. He started collecting the films after I moved out of the infamous PineHaus.

Dear Jackie:i don't know what to do! I'm an actress on the East Coast and I was offered a sweet sublet deal in New York to start in January for several months. Then literally an hour later, I got a call from a management company in L.A. and they're interested in representing me. Do I go to New York and pound the pavement there or go to L.A. with this manager?I don't know too much about this boutique manager, although the company seems to be well-respected, with several staff members and interns. The manager wants to meet in early January and talk about representation, although that's when I was going to move to New York. She seems very promising, making the point that she is with a boutique company while pushing to work closely on my career.Ahh! I am so confused, and literally an hour ago...

The Waiting Room is a Brazilian existential apocalyptic short that has great gas-mask shots and promise, but ultimately disappoints by a lack of story and development. “A young man wearing a gas mask wanders in a grey and empty city,” is exactly what you get.
Which potentially could be pretty cool. The film starts off with a powerful image that drew me right in, a man wearing a gas mask sits on a mattress in a darkened room, he stares up at the grey window, all we hear is his labored breath through the respirator. Unfortunately, story wise, it’s all downhill from here. He goes out into an almost empty city, a gray and dark place, where the few men left seem to attack each other at random, but...
