Quotes

  • Gil Favor : Waiting game's a bad game.

    Hugh Brewster : The worst.

Gil Favor : One consolation though.

    Hugh Brewster : What's that?

Gil Favor : If word of this ever gets out, it'll set us up as two of the best cattlemen in the business.

Hugh Brewster : Why else do you think Phoebe would want you for dinner?

Gil Favor : That's on Thursday night. I'd kinda like to make that, if we're still alive.

Hugh Brewster : You'll be alive.

Gil Favor : What makes you so sure?

Hugh Brewster : You've got to be. I owe you money. You won't let yourself get killed.

Gil Favor : Got a point there, Brew. Got a point.

  • Gil Favor : Here's how it works. There are only three trails that have cattle on them at the moment. Each has a large herd, the Santa Fe, Jones and Plummer and the Chisholm. Tie up these herds, plus mine, and control the four major herds in America that are ready for market, some 8 to 10,000 head of prime beef which can swing the market any way you want to. Two days before these herds reach their destination, a buyer, one of our men naturally, will arrive and start negotiating for the sale of the herd. The trail boss will sell to him because, somehow or other, no other buyer will show up.

  • Rian Powers : I misjudged that man. Under that hat he wears, there's a real brain. You're going to be a great asset, Favor.

Gil Favor : I'm afraid there's a little bit of a liability under this hat too. Y'see, I want a piece of the action too.

  • Hugh Brewster : Well, Gil, how about it? Are you ready to sell to me at a hugh loss?

Gil Favor : Like always, why not?

Hugh Brewster : You know the market?

Gil Favor : You better believe I do. $33 a head. Mmh?

    Hugh Brewster : Coffee?

Gil Favor : Hey, what's this? You trying to soften me up with coffee instead of booze?

Hugh Brewster : 'Fraid so, Gil. I'm offering $24 a head.

Gil Favor : At least you used to get me slackered up with good champagne before you start playing silly games.
