Dread Central's Best & Worst of 2008

**Note: This will be at the top for a bit; new stories will appear below!** It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it was the age of remakes -- also known as the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of bad, it was the epoch of incredible; it was the season of fright, it was the season of dumb; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair -- and man, did we have a lot of it; we had everything before us, we had nothing before us; some flicks took us directly to heaven, others took us the other way. The year was 2008, and it was pretty memorable.

Splinter director talks sequel possibilities, Grudge 3

4 December 2008 9:03 AM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Screen Daily chatted recently with Splinter director Toby Wilkins, who has been enjoying the positive response to his indie creature feature (including our review here), and is awaiting Sony Pictures’ direct-to-dvd release of his next feature, The Grudge 3, which he helmed in Bulgaria.

The newest entry in the popular Ghost House Pictures series has yet to have a release date announced, and Wilkins (who previously helmed the on-line Tales From The Grudge episodes that also turned up on the Grudge 2 DVD) doesn’t have a problem with the Brad (From Within) Keene-scripted sequel going direct to disc. “In my work, I’ve never shied away from all the different kinds of distribution,” he tells the trade, “whether that’s Internet, VOD or even mobile phones.”

Given the strong critical reception to Splinter from such publications as The New York Times and Variety, it’s no surprise that a follow-up may be in order. »
