Excellent!!

If anyone is interested in understanding contemporary Mexican politics, the easiest and best way to do so is to watch this 4 volume documentary series called "¿Quién es el Sr. López?" (Who is Mr. López?) It's a very enlightening view of the most famous Mexican politician of the 21st. Century: Mexico City's former Mayor Andrés Manuel López Obrador. He is a man that is both worshiped and followed by many Mexicans but who is also irrationally hated by the upper class and by many people of the middle class who believe all the lies that are told about him on the television news (by the way Mexican television belongs mainly to 2 big corporations). López Obrador was the presidential candidate of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD)in the past elections of July 2 of 2006, but even before that, the right wing party in office, the National Action Party (PAN) tried to stop him and to undermine his fame through several maneuvers and ultimately through an Electoral Fraud that was carried out by the PAN in complicity with some sectors of Mexico's former ruling party the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). To understand why Mexico is currently divided in two opposed groups you need to see these documentaries.

Good documentary

Firstable and independently of the political ideologies, this is a great work made by Mr. Mandoki and secondly this documentary counteracts the bad publicity and defamation's to Mr. Lopez by the Mexican media. Undoubtedly the film expresses the feelings of much of the people about the democracy and political change in Mexico. Besides, reflects the integrity and love of Mr. Lopez to his country.

This documentary is far away to the American movies "gringadas" where the heroes are brave, handsome and against bullets, this is a real story of a real man, fighting pacifically against a regime that has been carrying the decadence of Mexico on the last decades.

A cult of personality documentary previous to the elections.

A documentary entirely devoted to how good, benevolent, fair and humane a Mexican politician supposedly is. It is awkwardly repetitive, one-sided and crude, but honest in its thesis, since it doesn't hide the purpose behind its making: providing a 'serious' basis for the candidacy of its starring character to the 2006 Mexican presidential elections.

I had never seen anything like it since the 50s documentaries on Mao or Stalin as big fathers of the people, shown in tender situations with children, the poor and the huddled masses, fighting the dark enemies of justice, all of it deprived of any factual information on the career of the politician in question. Only for his unconditional followers.
