Want to relive some of the highlights of the movies released this year without rewatching them all? Kees van Dijkhuizen recently posted a montage of clips from films that hit theaters in 2009 and it.s bound to give you chills. The pacing is impeccable, the soundtrack riveting and the clip selection striking, especially considering the massive amount of material that must have been sorted through. Of course not every film of 2009 gets its time to shine in the seven-minute montage, but a massive amount is featured, including some of the greats and no-so-greats of the year. There are blockbusters like Star Trek, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Inglourious Basterds and even some lesser celebrated films like Phoebe in Wonderland, The Burning Plain, Sunshine Cleaning and, my personal favorite to see so well-represented, Whip It. To a scary movie fan, the most glaring omission is the entire horror genre. No need to »

The End of 2009? Whoop-doo! This year has been one hellatious shit storm from the get-go. Pregnant ladies and babies, The Great Depression Part II, pig flu, more than a handful of horrible shootings, a balloon boy, Tiger's indiscretions, and our first black president. Not to mention more dead celebrities than I can shake a stick at. Every time I turned around, some other atrocious calamity was happening right before my eyes. Making 2009 one of the most interesting years of this entire decade. According to Michael Ruppert in his film Collapse its only going to get worse before it gets better. Yes, the Teens are going to see more than half of your friends and family dead. Take account of the folks around you. By the time 2020 rears its ugly head, most of these people will be gone. Turned to dust and painful memories. My advice to you this coming New Year? »

The new International trailer and UK poster (which is pretty much the same as the Us one with a different colour background) for Amy Adams’ new movie, Leap Year has just been released by Optimum Releasing. Leap Year is directed by Anand Tucker and also stars Matthew Goode and John Lithgow. I’ve put the new trailer below the synopsis and you can click the image above to enlarge. Leap Year is released 26th February.
Amy Adams (Sunshine Cleaning, Doubt, Enchanted) is a young woman who has an elaborate scheme to propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day, an Irish tradition which occurs every time the date February 29 rolls around. However she faces a major setback when bad weather threatens to derail her planned trip to Dublin. With the help of an innkeeper, however, her cross-country odyssey just might result in her getting engaged.

Emily Blunt has impressed critics with her performance on both "The Young Victoria" and "Sunshine Cleaning", leading to her being nominated for two 2009 Satellite Awards titles. When the winners of the awards were announced however, it was unraveled that she has lost to Shohreh Aghdashloo and Mo'Nique.
On Monday, December 21, the International Press Academy made public Shohreh Aghdashloo bested Blunt in the category for Best Actress in Drama, and Mo'Nique stole her chance at securing Best Supporting Actress title. While she failed to add her award collection, her co-star in "The Devil Wears Prada" Meryl Streep took home Best Actress in Comedy/Musical honor for her performance in "Julie & Julia".
The 26-year-old was not the only double-nominated actress who walked away with no kudo. Her fellow competitor Penelope Cruz has to admit defeat as well. Nonetheless, both of Cruz' movies nailed at least one award. "Broken Embraces" was in tie »

Welcome to your Friday morning television briefing. Another cast member has been secured for J.J. Abram's NBC espionage drama pilot Undercovers. Boris Kodjoe (Surrogates, Soul Food) has been cast as the male lead, Steven Bloom. Steven and his wife Samantha (as yet uncast) work together as spies. Abrams, who co-wrote the pilot script with Josh Reims, may still come aboard the project as the pilot's director. (Hollywood Reporter) Spoiler! TV Guide Magazine's Will Keck has the scoop on the departure of one of the cast members from HBO's drama series Big Love, which returns with its fourth season on January 10th. [Editor: I am not even going to put the name of the actor here as the article is extremely spoilery (though has at least one piece of misinformation), so read at your own risk.] (TV Guide Magazine) Showtime is developing a series adaptation of feature film Sunshine Cleaning, about a pair of sisters who work as crime scene cleaners. The pay cabler has hired the film's writer, Megan Holley, to adapt it as a drama series and is developing the project in-house. »

Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend in The Young Victoria
Photo: Apparition The Young Victoria is an excellent film, but it's missing a conclusion. The script penned by Julian Fellowes ends just when it seems it should be getting to the final act of the story of the up-and-down first years of Queen Victoria's rule. Fellowes gets us over a hill only to feed us text to take us down the other side. It's like investing in the stock market and watching your stock climb only to have it earn you hundreds instead of thousands when you cash out. Sure, you're a little richer, but the promise was much greater than the ultimate payoff.
For as melancholy as the film opens, The Young Victoria is actually quite the entertaining royal period piece as it introduces us to 17-year-old Princess Victoria (Emily Blunt) describing her "palace as a prison" while she sits in waiting. »

This Top 10 Actresses of 2009 list changed and evolved more than any other of my 'Best of 2009' lists. For a while it was even stuck at a top five list instead of the top 10. But then the year-end films hit and apparently studios had indeed been holding out their big guns until the last month or two of the year. And while meaty supporting roles for females were few and far between, 2009 turned out to be a decent year for leading ladies after all.
Honorable Mentions: Amy Adams in Sunshine Cleaning, Emily Blunt in The Young Victoria, Natalie Portman in Brothers, and Maggie Gyllenhaal in Crazy Heart.

Being pregnant with her first child which is due in spring 2010 with her actor fiance Darren Le Gallo, Amy Adams stated that she's about to learn the baby's sex. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight (Et) which was aired on December 7, the "Enchanted" star said that the reason why she wants to know the baby's sex is simply because she is just curious.
Amy shared to Et on why she is so dying to know the child's gender, explaining "It's not about planning a nursery, it's more about I just want to know. I want to be able to relate in that way." She added, "That's what works for me, but I totally believe in whatever works for the individual."
Moreover, Amy stated that she actually wants to wait to know the baby's sex, but she is too "impatient" about it. The Rose Lorkowski in "Sunshine Cleaning" said, "We will probably find out. »

You can be forgiven for having ignored The Golden Satellites despite your best efforts to keep track of the staggering number of Oscar "precursors." The group, dubbing themselves the International Press Academy, tends to make even loonier choices than the Golden Globes, and if they weren't the first American-centric group to release their nominees, probably wouldn't get more attention anyway. But it's November 30 and a major Oscar contender hasn't opened in weeks, so here we are, discussing the Golden Satellite nominees. Their choices are out there to say the least-- tiny indie The Stoning of Soraya M. earned a Best Drama nomination alongside bigger stuff like Precious and An Education, Katherine Heigl boasts a nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical thanks to Ugly Truth, Emily Blunt's performance in Sunshine Cleaning is right there next to Oscar frontrunner Mo'nique in Supporting Actress, and, whoah-- Neill Blomkamp scores a »

The Satellites (formerly Golden) have announced their 2009 nominations for what it's worth. And you might be screaming "not very much".
It's hard to know what to make of this Golden Globe splinter group. There is never much of a narrative thread in their nominations. You can't sense from year to year a type of film they like or whatnot. Which makes them feel a bit suspect. They also do very strange things which you're about to see if you read their nominations. They never get much attention and yet they keep plugging away. This year they were especially kind to 2012 (who knew?), Nine and The Stoning of Soraya M. But they were downright rude to the sci-fi drama Moon which received zero nominations despite their lack of aversion to sci-fi films. I mention this because the moon is a natural satellite and the Satellites are artificial. Maybe they're jealous. What they're orbiting we know not. »

Blunt and Cruz are up for Best Actress in Drama and Best Supporting Actress.
