Up from his binge, Sam (David Ford) receives a call from Roger (Louis Edmonds), but hangs up on him. Roger worries about what information Sam might have shared with Malloy. Although it turned out differently, the show was likely planning to cast the Ned character at this time. In a scene with Liz, we learn Roger had an independent inheritance, which he spent. Moreover, Elizabeth Collins Stoddard bought Roger's shares in Collins Enterprises. Also, Liz' husband Paul Stoddard is mentioned as Roger cryptically says, "Surely a departed husband isn't worth waiting for." Clearly, the character was a threat to return. When Vicki (Alexandra Moltke) tells Liz she will walk to town, we can confirm locations in Collinsport are indeed closer than they seem.
This was the first episode credited to writer Francis Swan. The credited writer on an episode is sometimes placed there with contractual considerations in mind. The particular writer credited was not always uniquely responsible for that script. Some of the series' actors even contributed to the writing (Joel Crothers, Jerry Lacy), but could not be credited. However, Mr. Swann's first script was a good fit for the show, though some of it proved cumbersome. Art Wallace was still in charge of the scripts, with executive producer Dan Curtis overseeing the entire storyline.
