I was nearly caught in a trap. I thought this was a recovered episode that was once thought lost.
The opening segment has bad dubbing and unsynchronised dialogue.
Maigret is after a serial killer. Several women have been killed in Montmartre in recent months.
The press is hungry for the police to catch the killer and it seems Maigret has had success.
Only Maigret has caught a decoy. To take the heat off so the killer will strike again.
Only for the streets in Montmartre are filled with undercover female officers trained in judo.
Marcel Moncin is the suspect who is arrested. A mild mannered meek artist who has been dominated by his mother and now his wife.
Maigret is convinced that the women in his life has sent him over the edge. He is taking revenge because of the way he has been treated, especially by his mother.
There is a psychological edge to this story. Even a suspicion that Marcel might be innocent when another murder takes place, but is it just a copycat?
An enjoyable story. It plays to Maigret's strengths. There is a good performance from Aubrey Woods as Marcel. Unfortunately it is overshadowed by the appearance of Jacqueline Hill whose next gig was Doctor Who.
